Chapter two
Amelia's day continued in the same boring pattern as it had for the last three years. Wait for the bell to ring, walk into the class and sit at the back, doodle in her notebook as the teacher lectured on about whatever the subject was. Amelia had an amazing skill... well it was an amazing skill in her opinion. She could almost become invisible no matter where or when. She just seemed to fade into the background in every class, party, and friend group. Amelia would bet money that some of her teachers who she has now known for three years would even notice if one day she just didn't show up to class. To some people fading into the background would be the worst thing to ever happen to them, but Amelia liked to disappear-to not have any attention grabbing features or traits. She was content with her place in life. So... her day continued in the same monogamous way that it did every day. She was finishing up another landscape drawing of a field of different wildflowers that went on for miles. Before she could get wrapped up in all the details the final bell signaling the end of the day rang out. Amelia quickly gathered her things and started to rush out of the door. "Finally," she thought to herself "I can go home and not deal with all of the drama about the football game." She rolled her eyes at the thought of anyone obsessing over a highschool game where big sweaty guys run back and forth across some grass. As you could probably tell sports were definitely not Amelia's thing. At that moment Gina sprinted towards Amelia already in her cheerleading uniform and her face decorated with a line of polka-dots in the school colors going across her face. Gina swept Amelia up into a big bear hug squealing in excitement. " Are you ready for the big game tonight Ams?" Gina exclaimed as she shook Amelia's shoulders gently. Amelia looked at Gina like she had just grown three heads. She gave a slight chuckle before saying softly "Gina I don't know where you heard that I was going to the game, but I am going home." Gina frowned before saying "I am not taking no for an answer this time. I know that sports games are not your thing, but let me remind you that you almost got me in big trouble with Mr. Chicago so you owe me."
"Gina! You didn't get in any trouble, so I really don't owe you anything besides you said it yourself a football game is not really my scene." Gina frowned and looked at Amelia with pleading eyes "Please come to the game Ams I really think you'll have a good time! And if you don't I will owe you a favor and I will never make you go to another game again!" Gina put her hands together in a begging position and she made her lip quiver as if she was about to cry. Amelia tried to turn her head away from Gina so she wouldn't have to see Gina's sad face. Gina just moved so that she was right in front of her. Amelia rolled her eyes and gave a fake exasperated groan "Ugh fine I will go to the stupid football game. But just keep in mind the only reason I am going is to support my very best friend." Gina gave an excited scream that Amelia swore was high enough to shatter glass. "Thank you thank you thank you! I will make it my mission that you will have a great time as that is my duty of being your very best friend." Amelia smiled and let Gina tug her to the bathroom so she could decorate Amelia's face in polka-dots of the school colors just like her. And although Amelia was happy to see Gina this excited she knew that this was going to be a very long night. The preparations for the game were extremely boring Gina was with her other cheer friends as they stretched for the game and practiced a few different cheers. Amelia just sat on the sidelines and texted her mom all of the details about her day, and why she was going to be home late tonight. Despite Amelia knowing that she was not her biological mother she loved her adopted mom and was incredibly close with her. They told each other everything about what all was going on in their lives. Amelia's mom supported her drawings in hopes that Amelia would follow her dreams of becoming an illustrator for a nature magazine, and Amelia supported her on her seemingly never ending quest to find love again after her husband died in Afghanistan. Amelia wouldn't trade their relationship for anything in the world.
