Chapter 7: Austria, Nerissa, and Nina, First Time!
"Wow! This is a pretty place!" Nerisas exclaimed as she walked around the square in Vienna, Austria.
This is the sisters first trip to Europe and they were excited. They didn't expect Austria to be so pretty. The two sisters walked on the cobblestone path to the black brick restaurant. Nina sat down and began to write down her new ideas for her story while Nerissa took out her 3DS to play Pokémon OmegaRuby.
"Your writing already?" Nerissa asked curiously,
"Yes! This is our first time in Europe! I plan to write about this trip!" Nina declared as the waiter looked at the two Asian Americans confused.
The two girls ordered their meals and eat their breakfast.
"What about England?" Nerissa asked annoyed a bit.
It was early in the morning, so she was clearly tired. Nina was energetic whenever she woke up unless she was really tired from doing anything last night.
"Well, yeah that counts, but this is a country we rarely hear about in America! How many times are people going to claim they traveled to Austria?!" Nina replied excitedly.
Nerissa sighed and continued to eat her breakfast.
"Soon, want to see the Performing House after this?" Nina asked as she eat her cereal.
"Sure, but where is our parents again?" Nerissa asked curiously.
"Father has a meeting and Mother went with him" Nina explained.
Nerissa nodded as she continued to finish her breakfast. Nina paid the bill and they walked out of the restaurant. A polished gentleman with an expensive violin case walked towards the restaurant and bought himself orange juice.
"Thank you. I am performing at the Performing House tonight for my brothers and wife" the gentleman said calmly.
Nina and Nerissa were surprised to hear a performing eating at this restaurant, but they stepped out of the room and walked to the Stephansdom.
"I can't believe how much effort and time people put into making this cathedral! It's so pretty!" Nerissa said as she looked at the art of statues outside of the cathedral.
The gentleman smiled and walked towards them. He finished his drink.
"Where are you two from?" the gentleman asked with a calm smile.
"America. Do you know anything about this cathedral?" Nina asked as she took out her notebook to take notes.
The gentleman looked at the cathedral with a solemn look on his face.
"Yes. The wedding of Louis II of Hungary and Mary of Austria was here. Franz Joseph I of Austria was buried here" the gentleman said sadly.
"Wow! I didn't know! That's amazing!" Nina said as she quickly took more notes on the cathedral.
"I'm sorry for my big sister's behavior. She's just excited about being in Austria" Nerissa said embarrassed a bit.
The gentleman smiled at them and whispered to himself "They remind me of my brothers"
Nerissa and Nina were talking about the cathedral as the gentleman walked to Graben. He didn't want to bother the sisters on their first trip to Europe. However, a dark shadow rose from the ground behind the gentleman. The gentleman felt someone coming from behind and he turned around. The dark shadow vanished into the light and the gentleman was worried. He didn't see anything, so he decided to walk along as he gripped his violin case. Nina and Nerissa then walked down Graben.
"I wonder how important that gentleman is?" Nina asked as she was trying her best to describe him in her notebook.
"He seems important. Also, why are you writing in the notebook?" Nerissa asked curiously.
Nina looked at her little sister confused, but then she soon understood.
"Don't worry! I still have the notebook with me! It's in my bag! I have another one for writing! Besides, I don't think I can write down our adventures in that notebook" Nina replied.
Nerissa was concerned and asked "Are you sure it is a good idea to write down our adventures? What would people think?"
Nina smiled at that thought and replied calmly "I only want people to have hope whenever they read our stories. I don't think they will believe that these stories are real, but if it can bring people a smile on their face or joy, then I think that is a good reason to keep writing our adventures down!"
Nerissa could only smile at her big sister as they continued to walk down Graben. However, Nina let out a squeal and ran to a golden fountain.
"What is this supposed to be?" Nerissa asked as she looked at the fountain.
She found the art style of the fountain amazing. She couldn't believe someone carved the statues, so she took out her phone to take a few pictures. Nina finished taking a few notes on the fountain while some people were just taking photos of the fountain. The gentleman noticed the two girls again and walked towards them.
"This fountain was modeled from St. Peter's in Rome. That's all I know from that" Nina says as she examines the fountain.
The gentleman was surprised when he heard Nina's explanation.
"I am surprised that you knew that much. Most Americans don't. Where did you learn that?" the gentleman asked.
"Oh! There's this comic about countries telling the stories of history! It's from Japan!" Nina explained embarrassed a bit.
"Interesting. Where you two going today?" the gentleman asked with a smile.
"The opera house! It's famous for the giant performances and beautiful music!" Nina said excitedly.
The gentleman smiled at them and said "Yes, it truly is. We'll I must be off! Have a wonderful time at Austria"
The gentleman walked away with a smile as Nina and Nerissa continued to examine the fountain. However, as the gentleman walked away, Nerissa felt something dark coming towards the gentleman. She looked at the gentleman as he walked away and Nerissa decided to follow him.
"Hey, Nerissa, where are you going?" Nina asked as she followed her little sister.
The gentleman continued to walk to the Opera House, but the sky was dark for a moment. Nerissa and Nina stopped walking and looked at each other, worriedly.
"Blue beam, I'll follow that man" Nerissa said seriously as she ran after the gentleman.
"Ah! Right!" Nina said as she quickly tapped her commlink and a blue beam appeared.
The gentleman turned around and saw the blue beam shot up into the sky!
"What is going on?!" the gentleman asked as he saw the beam!
A heartless jumped from behind and lunged at the gentleman. The gentleman ducked away, but Nerissa launched a green beam at the heartless and landed in front of the gentleman.
"Are you ok?" Nerissa asked worriedly.
"Yes, I am fine. Thank you for asking, but what are those?" the gentleman asked sacredly.
"Those are the creatures of darkness that appear in worlds, heartless. However, I can't find the source" Nina said as she ran to their side.
"Why are they here though?" Nerissa asked seriously.
The gentleman looked at the two girls closely. He wondered if they were those kids from the past. He was about to ask about a certain person, but they heard a person's eerie laugh.
"Haha! Nice to see you again, Dreamers!" said Vanitas as he landed in front of them!
"Why are you here?" Nina asked as she pointed Wonder Light at him.
"I've felt an unusual presence here. Someone here is alive longer than they let on. I want that power" Vanitas said as he glared at the two Dreamers, "But I didn't expect to see you two here. Are you two trying to get in my way?"
"No, but we are thankful that we can stop you" Nerissa said as she began to charge up her attack.
Vanitas looked around them and stared at the gentlemen with interest.
"You two are not my goal. Heartless! The gentleman is your target! Go forth and bring him to me!" Vanitas shouted as a Flame, Earth, and Water core heartless appeared!
Vanitas chuckled as Nina and Nerissa protected the gentleman.
"I'll be at the Opera House. If there are people already inside the house, then I'll drain their energy" Vanitas said as he disappeared in a dark corridor.
"No! He can't hurt them!" the gentleman shouted in a panic.
Nina threw her Wonder Light and struck a Flame Core down as Nerissa held back the gentleman.
"Listen sir, we will make sure the people in Opera House are ok, but please be calm and stay somewhere safe" Nerissa said as she launched a green beam at the Earth Core.
The gentleman was amazed at how hard the sisters were working to protect him and those people at the Opera House. He clipped his briefcase to his belt on his left side and then pulled out a sword. He gracefully twirled in front of the Dreamers and struck the Water Core in half! He held a serious expression while Nina and Nerissa were surprised and shocked at how powerful the gentleman was. He drew back and stood tall and confident.
"I am grateful to your aid, but I will not stand back and let you fight. I will help you, but I need to get to that theater and help my friends. Is that alright with you?" the gentleman asked seriously.
Nina and Nerissa were just amazed still and they looked at each other. They shrugged.
"Yeah, sure!" Nerissa said as she ran on ahead!
"Lead the way to the Opera House, uh what's your name, sir?" Nina asked curiously.
"I am Roderich Edelstein. What are yours?" Roderich asked with a smile.
"I'm Nina and that's Nerissa! Now, let's go!" Nina shouted as she followed Roderich and Nerissa.
Roderich lead them down Heldenplatz as the heartless chased them! Nina stopped as she looked up at the statue in awe. Nerissa noticed her older sister wasn't following them and she looked back.
"Nina! Stop looking at the statue!" Nerissa shouted annoyed as she ran back to her sister.
"But this is the place where Hitler gave his speech to the Austrians when he annexed the country! This statue is also that of the Archduke Charles! He was a great commander who even stood up against Napoleon!" Nina said as she took out her notebook and began to make notes about the statue.
Nerissa grab her sister's arm as Roderich said annoyed a bit "I am both terrified and honored that you know this, but please remember we have a mission"
Nina sighed and ran with them to the Opera House. As they past the marble and emerald palace, more heartless were chasing them. They soon reached the Opera House and saw Vanitas.
"What?! My heartless weren't able to stop you or capture this man?! How?!" Vanitas shouted angrily.
"Easy! We basically ran!" Nina admitted as the heartless swarmed them!
"Well, that was pretty stupid then. How are you and your friends supposed to stop me when you get yourselves caught in this kind of situation?!" Vanitas asked amazed.
Nina and Nerissa stood in front of Roderich and Nina noticed a dark corridor behind Vanitas!
"Guys! That's where the heartless are coming from! If we can push Vanitas back to the dark corridor, then I should be able to seal it" Nina whispered to the two of them.
"Ok, then leave the heartless to me" Nerissa said as she closed her eyes.
"I personally want to be the person who pushes that jerk into the dark corridor if you two don't mind?" Roderich asked calmly as he gripped his sword.
"That's perfectly fine with us!" Nina said as she gripped Wonder Light, "Ready, Nerissa?"
Nerissa opened her eyes and a giant green dragon flew towards the sky! The heartless backed away from the glean of the green dragon and Roderich gasped in shock. He was amazed to see the Dreamers again! However, Nerissa lowered her hand and the green dragon flew around them, destroying the heartless with ease.
"Roderich!" Nina shouted as she charged at Vanitas.
Roderich looked at Nina and then he gripped his sword. Nina lunged a strike at Vanitas, but Vanitas blocked her attack with ease.
"Just what were you hoping to accomplish with that kind of attack?" Vanitas asked maliciously as he gripped his keyblade.
He pushed Nina away from him by using his strength. Nina was pushed to the ground and she rolled back to her little sister's side. Nerissa was worried a bit as she looked at her older sister. Nina just smiled confidently.
"I know I wasn't strong enough to fight you, but he is!" Nina said as Roderich struck Vanitas back!
Vanitas blocked his attack, but Roderich was quicker and stronger than Vanitas! Roderich turned around struck Vanitas' shoulder and then he struck Vanitas' left side! Vanitas held his side and stumbled backwards.
"How did you do that? You're only human" Vanitas asked horrified and amazed at the same time.
"I am a more unique human" Roderich said with a smile as he pushed Vanitas back to the dark corridor.
Vanitas screamed and stumbled back to the corridor. Nina quickly pointed Wonder Light at the dark corridor and a light beam struck the dark corridor. The beam quickly closed the dark corridor and the heartless vanished. The blue beam was lifted and Roderich saw the people acting calm and enjoying themselves. He smiled.
"Wow, I didn't expect this for our vacation" Nina said with a sigh as she laid down on the street.
"It could've been worse, but hey, at least it's over" Nerissa replied with a weak smile.
Roderich smiled when he saw how close the two sisters were. Their relationship reminded him of his two brothers.
"Nina, Nerissa, thank you for your help. If you two didn't decide to help me, I don't know what could've become of this wonderful place" Roderich said with a smile.
"It's no problem" Nina said as she stood up.
"Well, can I do anything to thank you?" Roderich asked with a smile.
"No, we are fine" Nerissa answered with a smile.
"Are you sure?" Roderich said amazed.
"Yeah! Just being here is an award in itself!" Nina said calmly.
"Well, can I do anything to make your day more enjoyable?" Roderich asked.
"As much as we would love that, we can't accept. We are just happy to be here and we have to leave for Venice, Italy tomorrow!" Nerissa said with a smile.
"Really? Well, I have a little brother there. His name is Feliciano Vargas. Tell him you know and he'll treat the two of you to nice Italian dinner" Roderich said with a smile as if he recalled a peaceful memory.
"Sure! Hey! We made it to the Opera House! Nerissa, let's go!" Nina shouted as she ran towards the giant building.
Nerissa followed her and waved good-bye to Roderich as she said "We will! Thank you, Roderich!"
Roderich smiled as he saw the two sisters run off to the Opera House. Roderich then walked to a side entrance. He was greeted by his close friends.
"Austria! Where have you been?! You were almost late!" Hungary said with a worried expression on her face.
"Sorry, I was held up at the moment, my love" Austria said with a bright smile.
He heard an annoying laugh. He turned around to see Prussia wearing a tuxedo and laughing.
"Please be quiet" Germany said as he flicked Prussia's head.
"Can't help it! It's so unlike the prissy boy to be late to his own concert!" Prussia said with a snicker.
Germany sighed while Switzerland and Liechtenstein walked into the musician's room.
"Oh, I was coming to find you. Where have you been?! You have five minutes to get ready!" Switzerland shouted annoyed.
Austria smiled brightly as he answered "I saw a few old friends"
