What do you do when you are scared to open your heart to someone?

I want to let them in but...
If they see how dark and shriveled my heart is?
I fear that I will lose them.

I have always locked my heart and feelings away after I saw how people would manipulate them.
Why get hurt if they are not worth pain?

I want to let them in...
But if I do let them in, they would have seen too much and I would either shove them out or lock them in. Until they break out.

Both would shatter my heart.
