Moments Before The Massacre

Three Vault security guards stood at the Vault entrance interior. One was sitting by the vault door control console using a terminal that acted as a security monitor for the security camera that was outside the Vault. The guard was a 23 year old female that had short black hair, blue eyes and rosy skin. The other two were leaning against the wall by the door that led deeper into the vault, where its residents resided. One was a man in his late 20s that had short black hair, a black beard, green eyes and rosy skin. The other was a man in his early 30s, having a bald head, brown eyes and tanned skin. The two were participating in idle chatter.

They were Cynthia Rose, David Miller and Kyle Jones. Three out of many Security guards for Vault 71.

"So, uh, David. How's your sister doing?" Kyle asked David.

"Oh, she's doing alright." David responded to him. "Right now, she's planning on marrying her "darling", since he proposed to her yesterday." He said. He then lets out a soft chuckle, shaking his head. "I'll never get over that word." He said.

"Really? Why?" Kyle asked him with a raised eyebrow.

"Well, im not really the kind of guy who goes out on constant dates. Had the odd one here and there, but they didn't last long." David admits. "But throughout the dates I did do, I've never once heard the other refer to me as their "darling". Hell, I've never even heard that word be used by anyone in the vault. So, to hear her say it is certainly... new to me." He said before letting out another chuckle. "But enough about that. How's your husband doing?"

"Oh, you know, busy as usual. Helping people in need of aid. That sort of thing." Kyle said to him, smiling at the mention of his lover.

"I see." David said to him as he nodded. "You're a lucky man, you know that? I mean, you two are just made for each other!" He said to him, a smile forming from his lips.

"You say that as if I don't know that." Kyle humorously said before letting out a chuckle, with David doing the same.

David then looked at Cynthia. "Hey Cynthia. Since we're on topic, is there anyone in particular you're interested in?" He asked.

Cynthia lets out a soft chuckle before she glanced at the two from the terminal. "If only." She said to them. "Believe me, I looked everywhere, and so far I did not find anyone who've interested me in a romantic way."

"Hmph. Guess that means you gotta look deeper. I'm sure there's someone in here that'll catch your fancy." David humorously said to her.

Cynthia rolled her eyes humorously before letting out a chuckle. "You know, I can say the same thing to you, David." She said to him. "So tell me: is there anyone else you're interested?" She asked him.

"Eh, as of right now, not really." David said as he shook his head, shrugging. "Besides, even if I did, I doubt it'll last long considering my track record."

"Oh, don't beat yourself down. I'm sure you'll find someone." Cynthia said to him.

"Yeah, what she said." Kyle said to David. "Theres still some fish left in the tank, David. I'm sure atleast one would like you."

David lets out an amused chuckle. "We'll see." He said to them.

Finding it best to get back to work, Cynthia looked back at the terminal. But when she did, her eyes widened in shock.

What she saw was a group of people wearing... very strange armor, wielding strange looking weapons she had never seen before. One of them was even looking up at the security camera.

"What the absolute hell...?" Cynthia muttered out in shock and confusion.

"Cynthia? Is something wrong?" Kyle asked Cynthia out of concern, noting her shocked and confused state.

Cynthia sat there in silence for a moment when she looked back at the two. "Someone, or... something is standing outside the vault door. And they look to be armed with strange weaponry."

David and Kyle looked at each other in confusion and curiosity when David spoke. "Hang on, let us take a look." He said to Cynthia. Kyle nods and the both of them made their way to the terminal only to see the exact thing Cynthia mentioned.

"What the hell?" Kyle mumbled out of shock. "Who... are these guys?" He asked.

"I don't know. But who ever they are, they are not getting in here." David said. "I'll take care of this. You two keep an eye on them." He said to Cynthia and Kyle before making his way to the control console, pressing a button that activated a communication link between the two consoles. "Who are you, and state your business. I suggest you make it quick."

There was silence for a moment when David received his response. "This is Colonel Abigail Autumn of the Enclave. We demand that you open the vault door and hand the G.E.C.K. over to us." The voice said.

"You... demand for it, huh?" David said, unfazed by Abigails demands. "And why exactly do you want our G.E.C.K.?" He asked.

"That is not your concern." Abigail said to him. "If you do not comply with our demands, then we will force our way in and take it ourselves."

"Oh, is that so, huh?" David sarcastically responded. "Well, let me tell you something lady. That is not going to happen." He said to her. "And before you even think about forcing your way in, this vault door was built to withstand a nuclear explosion. So you can't do shit with it." He added. "So, if I were you, I'd fuck off out of here and go back to where ever you came from. Got it? Now, get lost!" David finished before ending communication.

Silence filled the air once more as Cynthia and Kyle looked at each other with an uneasy look before looking back at David. "David... are you sure this'll work out on our end?" Kyle asked him nervously.

"Oh please, what're they going to do?"

Outside the vault, Abigail was clenching her power armored fist in frustration. She didn't want to do this. She really didn't want to. But it looks like she was left with no choice.

"...You know what to do." She said to one of her soldiers. They nod before pulling out a pile of explosives, sticking them onto the weak portions of the vault door.

"David, I know its our job to keep outsiders out and our people in the vault, but was it really a good idea to antagonize those people? They look incredibly dangerous." Cynthia pointed out to David.

"Like I said before, the vault door was built to withstand a nuclear explosion. They won't make a dent to it." David said to them.

But just as he said that, there was a sound of multiple explosions outside the vault door. Their skins then paled when they heard a creaking sound and they turned to see the vault door falling inward to the ground. Once it did, before any of them could react, they were met with a barrage of plasma and bullets killing all three of them on the spot.

As the three security guards dropped dead, Abigail and her Enclave forces made their way into the vault. What followed was the sound of plasma and bullets being fired, and the screams of the vaults residents.
