Part 3: Salem.
After successfully extracting his son from prison, Ghira, Y/N, Kali and Avdol were now sat in a cafe, each of them with a drink at their small circular table positioned near a full length window.
"Oh, I'm so glad you've left that awful cell Y/N!"
Hugging her son, Kali smiled, much to the irritation of Y/N who tried in vain to push his mother away. Turning to Ghira, he spoke.
"One thing I still can't seem to understand is how you could know all of this."
Ghira reached into his pocket as he answered his son.
"How do I know? Well, I suppose I did come all of this way to explain it to you..but I'll have to start from the beginning."
Producing a series of Polaroid photographs, he set the first one down on the table. The image was of a boat of some kind, upon its deck and in clear view was a solid black box.
"Two years ago, a deep sea diving team was dispatched from Vacuo. They were originally supposed to survey the ocean floor for scientific research, but instead, they found this.."
The second photograph, much closer to the mysterious black box which could be seen to be a coffin. Around its open lid, chains, presumably broken by pliers of some kind from the outside.
"The boat returned to shore completely empty! Not so much as a speck of life aboard. Only dried out husks of the crew!"
A third photo of a sailor, apparently drained of all life until he was little more than a shrivelled corpse.
"I did some digging, and according to legend, this coffin was designed to seal a great evil! It was built by my grandfather! Your great grandfather!"
A fourth photograph, one depicting a large, well built cat faunus alongside a strange young man wearing a large black coat with silver and green trims. The unknown companion appeared to require the use of a cane to walk. Also beside him was a blonde woman and a man with a strange, checkered hat.
"He died sealing the coffin over fifty years ago, but I know exactly what they were trying to contain! Avdol and I have spent the last few years trying to track her down.."
Y/N frowned, now leaning forward with some intrigue on his face.
"You make it sound like it was a person who was in there. How could someone live at the bottom of the ocean for so long?"
Slamming his hand on the table and standing, Ghira's voice became louder. As if the mere thought of this dark presence some had infuriated him!
"Because she is evil incarnate! The superlative force of darkness in this world! Salem!"
Leaning forward at Y/N in return, he locked eyes with his son.
"And it is our duty and responsibility to finish what he started and defeat her!"
Y/N frowned. It was certainly a far fetched story, but they lived in a world with monsters and huntsmen. Was a universal 'big baddie' really such a leap?
Sighing, Ghira produced a camera from his nigh infinite bag and set it down on the table.
"Very well, I can show you the evil, with my stand!"
Raising his fist into the air, purple electricity sparked around his hand, forming a series of thrones vines, which coiled around the camera as he slammed his fist down. Crushing the camera with his strength, however causing a photo to be taken.
"Did you see it just now? That was my Hermit Purple! I manifested it about a year ago. About the same time as you first started feeling your stand seeming to follow you, I'd wager!"
Taking the photo, Ghira continued to explain.
"It allows me to create spiritual visions! The only downside is that I have to trash a camera every time I use it!"
Avdol shook his head, waving a particularly curious waiter aside before he spoke.
"I keep telling you to be a little more gentle, Mister Belladonna..."
Disregarding his Vacuoan companion, he held the photo towards his son. Image rapidly developing upon it.
"Have you ever taken a proper look at your back. Particularly the neck?"
Ghira asked, before turning sideways to reveal a small star shaped birthmark. Concealed by the fur of his clothes.
"I bet you've never thought much of it, but we all have it. You, Me, even Blake! But also, my grandfather too! Everyone in our family is born with this birthmark, now behold!"
Slamming the photo down before Y/N, he looked back up at his son. Upon observation, the image depicted a woman, consumed by darkness. Pale skinned with dark crimson veins. Wearing a robe of some kind that had slipped to her shoulders, her back was exposed to the camera and upon it...a purple star! Much like that which adorned the Belladonna's own bodies!
"Salem! She's appeared in all of my spirit photos. And if you look here..."
A finger directed to the star shaped birthmark, Ghira continued.
"The mark of the Belladonnas! She murdered my grandfather and stole his very essence! As a side effect, she absorbed even his birthmark!"
Ghira shook his head, sitting back down again.
"We know she's up to something. It can't be a coincidence that our powers manifested at the same time!"
Avdol now spoke up, turning to Y/N to elaborate further on this theory.
"In the wider world, a Stand is considered to be a type or genre of semblance. Due to their similarities to one another. I've had mine since birth, but your stand semblances appear to have been 'inherited' for want of a better word, by your descendants manifesting these same abilities. By absorbing Mister Belladonna's grandfather, she has inadvertently connected herself to your family. You're connected to her, which means that your power has been awakened in the same way.."
====================
"Again...another strange sensation. As if someone was watching me.."
Arising from a red, velvety bed, a dark female figure engulfed by shadow stood. Walking across the room barefoot. Light taps echoed as she crossed the dark bedchamber shortly.
"It must be the Belladonnas. The aura of Johnathan calls out to his descendants. Some kind of spiritual signal.."
Stopping by a large rectangular window, her form was illuminated by the red skies outside. Revealing some of her features.
"Very well, this must be our fate."
Shaking her head, she suddenly paused and raised it towards the scarlet thunder outside.
"...But fate can be purged."
A small malevolent smile as she folded her arms, she turned from the window and began crossing the door. Shadows surrounding her in garments as they were conjured by magic.
"My intervention begins now."
====================
Standing in his father's study, Y/N sat on the opposite side of the large desk as Ghira. There was the matter of training him to use his abilities as well as continuing his proper education.
To Ghira, the choice was easy. Beacon already had one Belladonna under its care. What harm could another do? The school year might've started and Y/N might've only been in standard schools before now as opposed to on the huntsman academy track. But Ghira was confident nonetheless.
"Beacon Academy is the best place we can send you right now. The headmaster there, Ozpin. He has experience fighting Salem. And he has a stand of his own. He can teach you how to fight better than Avdol or myself. Once we have a proper lead, we'll come and get you."
Y/N frowned as Ghira spoke. Arms crossed.
"You're sending me back to Beacon? Aren't you worried how she'll react to me? You guys didn't exactly part ways on the best of terms, besides, she'll be pissed at me for up and vanishing like I did..."
Ghira sighed and shook her head.
"We did not. But she has plenty on her plate already. Which means you can tell her nothing about Salem! Not until she's ready!"
Y/N's frown grew. It seemed unfair to tell one sibling of their imminent destiny, yet to conceal it from the other. Besides, wouldn't she too develop a stand?
"And if she asks about any of this? Or worse, develops a stand herself?"
Ghira clasped his hands together and sighed.
"If she develops a stand, then we know for certain that her destiny is to fight Salem with us. But if there's any chance that she might be spared..."
Letting the sentence hang in the air, he fell silent and shook his head.
"You must make sure that if it is possible, she is safe from this. Do you understand?"
Y/N didn't respond verbally, opting to nod instead.
====================
"At the time, I was very weak indeed..my last battle with Ozma had taken its toll.."
A woman, quietly navigates a dark hallway, her skin a pale white hue, save for the distinct red veins that criss crossed her skin.
"My immortal body had been pushed to the limit. It would've taken me years to properly heal. I had no choice but to absorb the very biological structure of the first being that I encountered. Using their life energy, I was able to speed up my regeneration process."
Sultry tone echoing throughout the empty library she was in, the woman traced her right hand up her arm slowly, halting at her shoulder.
"And I gained something truly magnificent for my trouble.."
She paused, confronted by a large, ornamental mirror. Approaching it slowly, she continued to talk to herself.
"Alas, with all power, there must be drawbacks. The life energy from Johnathan. His aura...it still calls out to his progeny. Tying me to his kin.."
Placing a hand on the mirror, she paused here.
"They know of my existence because of this power I've gained....The Stand!"
The surface of the mirror shimmered, revealing Y/N aboard a Bullhead bound for Beacon Academy.
"The Belladonnas must be exterminated, soon!"
She declared, and with a savage swipe of her hand, the image was banished.
