"Finally!" I cheered, one enclosed fist raised joyously in the air whilst the other tightly clutched my surf board. After a long week of school, it was the weekend at last.

"Slow down! I can barely even see Jotaro anymore." Kakyoin laughed, pointing towards the other end of the beach to highlight the fact that Jotaro didn't run after us when we bolted. "He can catch up." I shrugged, too excited to care as I charged towards the water. I'd been waiting far too long to stall any more than I had already.

Kakyoin looked between the two of us as if he were watching a ping pong match, debating running after me or waiting for his other companion. But in the end, he decided that the water looked way too enticing to just stand by and wait.

Goosebumps covered my body, chills running up and down my spine as the level of the water eventually rose to my waist. The water was beginning to get chillier, but the first five minutes were always the coldest. I used the sandy sea floor to propel myself onto my board, and lay my stomach across it to rely on my arms to carry me the rest of the way out to sea. By this point, Kakyoin's bulky upper body strength gave him the advantage, letting him pass me out with a playful smirk etched across his cocky face.

I smirked in return, the action conveying a sly wordless remark; 'you might be faster than me, but let's see who's surfing skills prove to be the best.' It was an expression that wiped the smugness from his features in an instant, causing me to laugh at the sudden change.

Jotaro had eventually arrived by the time we finished riding the first decent wave we possibly could. He reached the shoreline at his own pace, wading through the water laboriously as Kakyoin and I resurfaced after our most recent fall from the boards. "Glad you could join us!" I laughed giddily, pulling at wet strands of hair that clung to my face to regain my sight.

"Let's see what he's got. He could have practiced enough to surpass me again, but that would be a tough feat since I'm going to go all out this time! I'll win for sure!" Kakyoin laughed heartily, a confident grin glowing on his optimistic face that pretty much solidified his defeat. While it was obvious that he was joking, I could see the cogs turning in Jotaro's head as he mulled over his declaration. "Don't say that until it's been done, otherwise you're bound to lose." I pointed out with a teasing smirk, flipping my board upright to continue surfing.

"Have you got any faith in me?" He rolled his eyes, grabbing ahold of my board and pulling it away as I tried to climb onto it, causing me to unexpectedly dive under the water by accident. As I resurfaced, spluttering due to the lack of reaction time I was given, I glared mischievously at him. "Now I definitely don't. Jotaro, you'd better win this if you know what's good for you." I finally got ahold of my board, wary of it being snatched away again. "I can't wait to see this!"

"You've got this, Jotaro!" I cheered playfully as the two boys lined their boards up side-by-side. Kakyoin glared lightly in my direction, while Jotaro seemed to avert his gaze to anywhere but me. Speaking of, he's been pretty silent lately..

"Go!" I was abruptly snapped from my thoughts as Kakyoin announced the beginning of their friendly competition, catching the next wave that began to tower over them. I cheered as loud as I could as they effortlessly stood to their feet, perfect balance on the wooden surfaces of the boards that cut through the water with ease, splashing droplets of glistening mist that reflected the sun with each twist and turn.

And suddenly, the wave began to curve at the top as it neared the shore, hanging overhead to create a small gap for them to surf through. It was narrow, and quickly decreasing in height, so I didn't expect either of them to make their way out. I couldn't help but snigger at the sight of Kakyoin's board flying high into the air from the force of the wave gradually crashing down, him nowhere to be seen among the rippling created by the bubbly wave remnants.

But to my surprise, Jotaro made it though before the wave could crash down on top of him, gliding across the now flattened surface of the water as if he'd been surfing for years.

"He did it!" I stood atop my board, clapping and congratulating him as he neared me, controlling his balance perfectly to glide over to my direction. "I wonder how Kakyoin will react." I laughed, pointing in the direction of the red-haired male that tried to carefully pin back the tendril of hair that strayed from its usual position.

"This just proves that I'm an amazing teacher." I joked, raising my fist towards Jotaro once he'd stopped by my side. He eyed it for a moment, then seemed to remember its purpose, pressing his knuckles against it so we could fist-bump just like we had before.

"You're a natural at this." I beamed, sitting down on my board, followed by Jotaro doing the same. He sat in the opposite direction as me, his back faced towards the coastline while mine was towards the sea, but our boards lay side by side to allow us to still have a clear view of each other. "Thank you." He lowered his head slightly, his hat tilting to let a few drops of water slide from the protruding brim.

"I should've taken your advice." Kakyoin floated towards us lifelessly, the wind clearly knocked out of his lungs as he panted heavily. "It wouldn't have made a difference anyways, so I'll forgive you." I laughed as he puffed out his cheeks, a defeated but contented expression crossing his features.

"We should get going. It's getting kinda late." I mused disappointedly as I gazed up at the darkening clouds, a unique orange shade beginning to fade into the horizon. A perfectly blended ombré spread across the sky flawlessly, more beautiful than any photograph could capture. It was nice to just lay back and watch the sun lowering, its beams sinking into the wavering pockets of warm yellow hues that were vaguely mirrored in the water from the view above. And watching it with my best friends made my heart flutter with happiness, an overwhelming amount of appreciation welling up with each sneaky glance I took at the tranquil pair.

"You're right.." Jotaro eventually muttered, clear hesitation and reluctancy interlaced with his harsh tone. I liked to see him enjoying our company as much as he was, seeing as he used to only ever be seen alone, or surrounded by swooning women that tormented him to no end. He seemed more peaceful than I'd ever seen him.

Deciding to relish in the slow diminishing warmth emanating from the sun, we made our way back to shore in no hurry, not a single word exchanged as we soaked in the moment. No words were necessary; the feelings were mutual, and it was obvious that we were simply content to remain in comfortable silence, enjoying the lulling of the gentle waves cradling us, the cool salty air filling our senses, calming us more and more as we approached the beachside.

"I'll walk you home." I was slightly taken aback by Jotaro's sudden announcement, newfound confidence flowing from him that wasn't evident before. He was normally quiet, accompanying me without needing to question it. My automatic response was to narrow my eyes at Kakyoin suspiciously. What did he do this time...?

"Thank you." I turned back to him and smiled, eyes fluttering closed every so often as I trudged tiredly alongside him. "Goodnight!" Kakyoin waved mid-yawn, his free hand covering his mouth to hide the gape hidden behind it. "Goodnight." I barely had enough strength in me to wave back, so let my warm smile speak enough volumes to show how much I enjoyed our day out. Knowing him, he picked up on it instantly, mirroring it since he knew me all too well at this point.

"Night." Jotaro nodded in his direction, then averted his gaze to look straight ahead, walking towards my home at a slower pace to match my lazed steps. "You don't need to walk me home, you know." I laughed lightly, secretly testing him to see if Kakyoin had anything to do with his strange behaviour lately.

"..I want to."

My eyes widened slightly at that, turning to him to see light blush dusted across his face, pink like cherry blossoms with a hint of gold as the sunlight gracefully outlined his strikingly handsome features. While Kakyoin definitely had something to do with this, I decided against questioning it, seeing as I liked this softer side to him.

"I.." Not knowing what to say, and unsure of how to react in that situation, I simply smiled bashfully. "...thank you."
