It had been a while since I quit my job at the corner cafe, and in an attempt to earn some money while keeping some free time for surfing, I advertised some babysitting posters across town with the help of Kakyoin. (I'm fond of kids, so thought it would be a fun idea/I hate kids, but the money is worth it/etc).
I began to get calls in from neighbouring families, and had eventually established myself as a trustworthy babysitter in the neighbourhood. But on this particular night, I had a family with four small children to babysit for, and needed help caring for them.
"Any chance you could come help me babysit tomorrow?" I inquired as Kakyoin and I strolled back from the shore, ready to clear up our belongings and head home after a long day of surfing. "No can do. I have family over, and I disappeared last time. Remember?"
I chuckled softly as I recalled his attempts to catch my attention by throwing pebbles at my window that night, leaving it with the small crack on the left corner that has yet to be discovered by anyone else. His family feigned having no idea where he went, but we were so joined at the hip as kids that they let him off.
"Yeah, I remember." I then sighed defeatedly, a small headache already beginning to form at the thoughts of minding four children at once. "Why don't you ask Jotaro?"
I furrowed my brows at his suggestion, heavily considering it but also doubting he would agree. He might not be a fan of kids, so in that case I'll just have to tell him we can half the money.. Or maybe he is, so he won't mind? "I'll give it a try." I finally shrugged. The worst he could say is no, right?
~✧~✧~✧~✧~✧~✧~✧~✧~✧~✧~✧~
"No."
"Please! We can split the cash! I'll do whatever you want for a week! I'll do anything!" I pleaded desperately. Kakyoin gave me directions to his house, so if it wasn't strange enough that I'd randomly shown up on his doorstep, asking him to go babysit for kids he didn't even know must have been even more off-putting. I should've thought this one through..
Jotaro paused for a moment, his eyes hidden behind the circular shadow cast over his face, so I couldn't tell if he was silently cursing my existence at that moment or if he was actually considering going. But once he finally spoke up, that doubt answered itself. "Fine."
My eyes gleamed with newfound relief and excitement at his final answer. "Really?" I uttered out, needing to hear him confirm a second time to be sure I didn't hear him wrong. He let out a soft grunt, eyes narrowing ever so slightly, but the emotion in his glowing blueish-tinted green eyes remained the same. "Yare yare daze.." He grumbled under his breath. "Wait here."
And so he shut the door in my face with little to no warning. But my contented expression didn't even falter for a second. He agreed! Now there was no need to worry about babysitting so many kids on my own. That would have been impossible since they're pretty energetic, so Jotaro was like a godsend to me at that moment.
He would never admit it, but he was secretly looking forward to minding the kids. He enjoyed spending time together without Kakyoin's countless interruptions, and was thankful that he got to spend his evening doing more than just lounging around aimlessly.
The door opened, bringing Jotaro back into view once again, dressed in his usual attire. "Let's go." I grinned happily, leading the way once he finished locking up the door behind him.

I knocked on the door a couple times, and soon heard the joyful cheers of the children from the other side, announcing my arrival to their parents. I smiled softly, (since these kids were the only children that seemed to like me/since I love children and couldn't wait to say hi to them/etc).
Jotaro seemed unfazed by their reactions to our arrival, and as the door opened to allow us inside, he introduced himself to their parents as I greeted the children with a group hug. They were undoubtably surprised to see the bulky man standing behind me, large enough to barely be able to fit through the doorway. The children, however, saw this as the perfect climbing opportunity..
The four of them scattered, jumping at him from all directions to compete and see who could reach the top the quickest. One child stood defeatedly by his leg, unable to clamber up his pant leg but trying his best regardless. Another had successfully hoisted himself up onto a nearby chair, using this to jump onto him and cling to his upper arm. As Jotaro lifted said arm to gaze at the child questioningly, another clung onto his forearm, hanging on like they were monkey bars. And lastly, the final child had somehow managed to clamber onto the back of his jacket, using tufts of material to climb while he aimed to reach the top before the others.
"Settle down now, kids." Their father interrupted with a meek laugh, picking up the child dangling off Jotaro's arm. He was clearly surprised by the lack of movement once the weight was lifted from it, impressed by his incredibly large muscles, maybe even a little intimidated. The rest of the kids whined as they were plucked from him, but soon forgot all about it as they hugged their parents goodbye. "I made a list just incase you forget anything, but I trust you. This isn't your first rodeo." The mother of the four placed a note in my hand before retrieving her purse and coat on the way out the door, eager to leave no doubt.
The moment the door closed, the children unashamedly began to cheer. "Playtime!" One grinned widely as he took ahold of my hand, dragging me away to their toy room with the help of the others. I giggled softly at their team effort, pretending that their combined strength was enough to cause me to topple over. "Would you mind making dinner?" I held up the note with a sheepish smile, noting Jotaro's confused glance as the kids 'dragged' me away.
I placed the note down on the coffee table for him as I disappeared around the corner of the hallway, straight into the kids playroom. Each kid picked up a toy, then rounded up to come up with a story involving each of them. And so we ended up playing 'Superman and the great Snorlax save the pretty princess from the evil clutches of Doc McStuffins.' A pretty complicated story, but they were eager to play it out.
"Stop hogging the spotlight!" One kid cried as another tried to save the day without the help of his trusty sidekick. Another sat boredly waiting in the corner of the room, too tired to continue playing the princess as she had yet to be saved. Just as things were about to turn into chaos, a knock at the door caught everyone's attention.
"Food's done." Jotaro stood almost awkwardly by the door, stepping aside to allow all four kids to run into the kitchen, dropping their toys along with their arguments in an instant. I sighed of relief, smiling up at Jotaro from my seat on the Lego-print carpeted floor. "You look spent." He commented, holding his hand out to me so that he could hoist me up off the ground. "How about you give it a try next time." I teased with a roll of my eyes once I was back on my feet.
We strolled into the kitchen which doubled as a large dining area, and I noticed an extra plate sitting idly on the countertop. "I guessed you'd be hungry." The light rumbling that sounded from my stomach at that moment spoke volumes. I chuckled and nodded shyly. "Definitely. Thanks Jotaro!" I grabbed my serving and decided to have light conversation with the kids as we ate.
Surprisingly, Jotaro would ask the kids an occasional question, but remained his usual quiet self for the most part. And every now and then the kids would ask him something in return, but after getting a very bland or confusing reply, I had to fill them in for him. His quiet nature wasn't very suitable for overly energetic kids, but I could tell that the mystery surrounding him was somewhat compelling to them as they tried to break his silence like a game.
"Hurry up! It's almost seven!" One of the kids pointed towards the wall clock, earning shocked expressions from the others as they started to wolf down their food at a much quicker pace. "What's happening at seven?" I questioned curiously, raising a brow at the kids stuffing their faces as fast as possible. One just about managed to take a breather and say 'the news is over!' I turned my attention to the living room just outside the door, and saw the tv was displaying the only news channel there was.
Once the kids had finished, Jotaro began to gather blankets for them to snuggle into on the couches to get ready for whatever movie was about to be displayed. I placed some kernels in a pot over the stove to make popcorn, and gathered an assortment of sweets from the cupboards to distribute among them. I made five small bowls since Jotaro didn't want anything, and filled mine with (treats of choice).
I returned into the living room to hand out the first set of bowls, only to notice how adorably they were waiting for the movie to start. One lay on the edge of the couch, leaning their head onto Jotaro's side comfortably. Another hogged the armchair to himself, the third lying on the other end of the couch, and the last remaining kid leaning onto Jotaro's lap tiredly. I placed the bowls by their sides and cuddled under the blanket that one of the kids kindly threw over me. "Thank you." I whispered, smiling brightly at the kid that was now hugging my side while 'E.T.' began to play.

It didn't take long for everybody but Jotaro to fall soundly asleep. Soft snores could be heard from all around the room as Jotaro sat there quietly, eyes fixated on the girl that had fallen onto his shoulder over an hour ago, thankfully leaning over the child that slept beneath her without being crushed. Her body had slid from her side of the couch over to his in no time, and he didn't dare to move since she slept so peacefully.
He couldn't turn his eyes from her, watching as her shoulders slowly heaved with each soft breath, blowing at the smallest tuft of hair that had fallen loosely onto her face. His hand seemed to move on its own, guiding itself towards the strands so he could shift them from her face. As his palm gently glided over the top of her head, she hummed lightly in her sleep, a light curvature forming on her lips unknowingly.
After a while, he decided to tuck the kids into bed before their parents returned home or any of them woke up. After setting (Y/n)'s body to an upright position, he scooped up the first two kids that lay by his sides, carrying them to bed before collecting the others. Their room was just down the hall, so it was a short trip to be made twice. With each child, he gently lay them down, tucked them in underneath their blankets, and made sure their night lights were on as instructed on the note. And with that task out of the way, he began to leave the room as quietly as possible, leaving the door open just a crack.
"Goodnight.." The faint voice of one of the children brought a light smile to his face as he walked down the hallway, returning to the living room to check up on the sleeping figure that now lay lengthways across the sofa.
Deciding to let her sleep, he seated himself at the end of the couch, leaving her the rest of the space while he continued to watch the remainder of the movie. It wasn't a movie he'd seen before, but he still showed little interest as the girl beside him was of much more importance to him.

Distortions and illusions crossed the girl's mind as a nightmare played before her, seemingly realistic and just as horrifying. Jotaro furrowed his brows, watching the girl toss and twist uncomfortably, eyes screwed shut, fists clenched as they clutched at the hem of her (jumper/jacket/etc). He sighed, knowing that he would have to wake her up before it progressed any further.
He placed his hand out to pat her shoulder, but just as it was placed down, she took ahold of it in a panic. He was surprised by this, but even more surprised to see her ragged breathing slowly regulating at the simple contact of her hand grabbing his wrist.
He shut his eyes, and sucked in a deep breath before loosening her grip, just so that he could interlock their fingers and hold her hand comfortingly. It was an innocent gesture that he guessed could be seen as a bold move if she were to wake up. But if it helped her sleep, he didn't mind facing that awkwardness later on.
Her hand was slightly cold but soft to the touch, like silk tracing over his calloused skin. While their hands were quite obviously two different sizes, it worked for them, as she received the warmth and affection radiating from the close contact, and he could feel relaxed knowing that she appreciated the gesture. They moulded together in the most perfectly mismatched way.

Jotaro was quick to slip his hand away from (Y/n)'s before the door could open completely, revealing two slightly tipsy parents returning home for the night. "Hope we're not intruding." The mother teased lightly as she continued to trudge towards the staircase, leaving the father to hand Jotaro two small envelopes that held their payments.
"Thanks.." He nodded lightly before shifting his gaze to the sleeping girl, unsure of what to do next. She was in such a deep sleep that carrying her home seemed to be the most logical choice, overruling the simplicity of waking her. He decided to take a chance on it, and removed his coat to replace the blanket that was draped over her. He gently picked her up, cradling her in his left arm to use his right to open the door to leave. He bid the parents a goodnight before exiting the house, shutting the door behind him to trek home for the night.
Once he stood outside her door, Jotaro recalled Kakyoin lifting a potted plant to find the spare key for the door when (y/n) was sick. And so he crouched down effortlessly, picking up the key and unlocking the door as quietly as possible. Once he had successfully shuffled through without bumping her head against the doorframe, he released the breath that he didn't even realise he was holding in.
As he gently shut the door closed, he silently prayed that her mom wouldn't be home to question what he was doing in their home so late at night. And thankfully she was fast asleep, in just as deep a slumber as the girl laying in his arms.
"Goodnight.." He murmured, placing the girl down onto her sheets and tucking her in just as he had done for the four children previously. She clung to his coat, hugging the bundle of cloth with her face buried into the collar to savour the familiar scent of his cologne. The sight send Jotaro's heart into a sudden frenzy as he watched her hug it so contentedly. Did she like that cologne enough to cuddle so close to it in her sleep? Or was she just fond of the familiarity of his scent? Those questions encircled his mind as he let his hand rest on her head, lingering for a moment before he decided it was time to leave..
He stood outside her bedroom door, taking in one final glance of her cuddled snugly into his coat, something he would never regret leaving in her possession that night as it taught him so much about how he truly felt about her..
