Jonathan has a Sensory Overload and a Panic attack
Warnings: implied abuse, implied child abuse, mentioned of Lonnie
Argyle's POV:
I and Jonathan walk into music, the last period of the day.
"Ok class we're using rhyme sticks today," the substitute teacher said, "Please grab two." I go up and grab a blue and yellow stick before sitting in a random seat. The noise of the sticks getting hit together echoed off the walls, making it louder, which I didn't mind too much. Then I notice Jonathan standing in the middle of the classroom, covering his ears, staring at the ground where he dropped the sticks.
"Jonathan, please pick up the sticks, and go to your seat," the teacher said, as the room goes quiet, staring at him. He just stood there quietly until the sub yelled his name, scaring him, as he did what she told him.
He sat down next to me, picking at his hands, which he does sometimes when he is nervous or uncomfortable. The noise slowly started again before I asked him, "Dude, are you ok?" He only hummed in response. "Are you sure? You looked pretty spooked out, and you're picking at your ha-" "Argyle, I'm fine" he quickly mumbles, irritated. I stopped asking questions, not wanting to make him more uncomfortable than he is. The noise got louder, which made him cover his ears again.
"Ok, class, please copy me," she ordered, which I followed. Jonathan pressed his ears harder, closing his eyes, mumbling something about someone that can't hurt him anymore.
"Jonathan, please participate in this activity." the sub said, clearly pissed off. Not even a minute later, she started screaming at him, He just pressed his ears harder, trying not to cry. Noticing tears flying off his face, I dropped my sticks, picked up Jonathan, and ran out of the room, as the sub yelled slurs at us.
I placed him on the ground, although he held onto my arm. When we finally got fair enough away from her, I asked him "Do you want to skip, dude?" Counting that it was the last period of the day. He just nods, trying to calm down. I walked him to my van and offered him the thing that solves all my problems, drugs. He nods as I give him a joint, that he smokes.
"What happened? You don't got to tell me. I just want to make sure you're ok, I-" "I'm fine, Argyle," he exhales, before continuing, "It was just too loud... until she yelled at me, it triggered a bad memory with Lonnie, me, Will, and my mom." he says calmly, cause of the drugs, and tiredly. "I understand"
He has told me about Lonnie, and the shitty things that he did to them. He hurt most of the Byers, that makes me hate him even more.
"Dude, are you ok? You look mad, and you're never mad." Jonathan asked. "Yeah, the teacher just pissed me off," I say exhaling. He half yawns, "oh." I take the joint from him and smoked it, which he didn't respond to.
He started to rant about something, badgers I believe. While ranting he place his head on my shoulder, which I didn't mind at all. He nods off, while I tried to think what we are going to tell Joyce, then my thoughts changed to what exactly my and Jonathan's relationship is, before falling asleep. I also dreamt about badgers for some weird reason.
