Chapter 9

A/n: Hey guys! I'm back with another chapter. I hope you like it!

Word count-

Enjoy~

Your POV

I had nothing to do the morning of the next day. Eddie had went over to our Nana's house. Our mother always made Eddie go weekly. Nana absolutely despised me, after many failed attempts at her getting Nana to like me, our mother stopped making me go. It was another thing I added to my never ending lift of things I hated about myself. Who's grandmother hates them? Mine.

I looked at myself in the mirror. I can't believe even my own family hates me. I wonder if my parents and Eddie feel the same...

My phone buzzed. I picked it up. There was a text from Eddie, it read...

Bro- U have to get over to the Theater quick!

Me- Y?

Bro- Buster is having Nana come over to the Theater to have everyone preform for her so she will sponsor!

This was bad. Really, really bad.

Me- I'll be there soon

I hopped out of bed. I ran over to my closet and grabbed a sweatshirt and pulled it over my head, not caring that it was a very hot summer day.

I pulled the hood over my head before running to the Theater.
.
I ran behind the stage just as Buster started to tell the crew what he had to say about Nana and the performance.

"Now, listen up." Buster shouted happily as he made large hand gestures to emphasize his point.

"Tomorrow we are going to have a full preview of the show, and our audience will be none other than Miss Nana Noodleman."

I heard everyone gasp.

"Nana Noodleman?" Mike asked.

"Wow, Nana Noodleman." Meena said in awe.

"She's still alive?" Mike chuckled.

"Oh, yes, and believe me, she's got some pretty high standards." Buster stated. "All right? So, today, we're going to have a full dress rehearsal and I want to see you light up the stage, folks!

"Well, that's cool!" Gunter said.

"Meena? Miss Crawly? (Y/n?)" Buster looked at us before showing us a blueprint.

"Wow, it's so ambitious." Miss Crawly took the words right out of my mouth.

The blueprint showed that we would be replacing all of the stage and star walls with glass. Then, we would be filling it up with water, and then hiring squids to swim inside of the tank.

"Yeah, you sure about this?" Meena added.

"I promised Nana something spectacular, and this," Buster laughed, "is gonna blow her away."

"Oh, yes." Miss Crawly agreed.

"Two minutes, everybody!" Buster shouted out to everyone else.

I went looking for Johnny after that, reluctantly. I didn't want to bother him, but I wanted to see if he needed any help with his act before he went up on stage. Yet, after searching for a few minutes, I couldn't find him anywhere.

I was about to call his name when he came running around the corner, smashing into me in the process.

"I-I-I am so sorry." He said, quickly getting up and holding a hand out to me.

I lightly gasped, staring at his hand. No one has ever helped me up before. No one ever helped me up after I was shoved down to the ground almost every single day of my education years. I reluctantly reached for it.

When my hand touches his he didn't flinch, or get a weird look on his face. He simply hoisted me up before giving me a small smile. He then quickly ran off toward the stage, making me sigh. Maybe he did just think I was a monster after all.

I walked behind stage just in time to see Rosita fall on her face. I winced. I knew much to well how that felt.

Johnny quickly pushed the piano onto stage and started his act. I couldn't help but see how nervous he seemed. Why was that?

"What would I do without your small mouth
Drawing me in and you kicking me out
You got my head spinning-"

Johnny hit a wrong note. Making him and I wince.

"No kidding, can't pin you down
What's going on in that beautiful mind
I'm on your magical mystery ride
And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright
My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
Cause all of me
Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
'Cause I give you all, all of me
And you give me all, all of you
O-o-oh"

His voice never seized to amaze me, but he still needed to work on his acts. Just as Buster pointed out a few seconds later.

"Johnny," he sighed, "Uh, I know I'm asking a lot of you-"

"Mr. Moon, I'm really trying, I promise." Johnny stated.

"What about your backup song? Have you practiced that?" Buster asked.

"Uh, well, not yet." Johnny admitted, glancing down at his watch nervously, to my confusion. What was he so worried about being late for?

"Well, why don't we go back and work on that one, okay?" Buster suggested. "I'm mean, look, if you play like that in front of Nana Noodleman..."

Buster trailed off as we all watched Johnny run off of stage and out of the theater.

"Johnny?" He called after him. But Johnny was long gone.
.
I stayed at the theater until dark like I often did. It wasn't like I had anything better to do anyways.

I was just finishing up closing the place up for the night when I saw a tall dark figure standing in Buster's office. I jumped at least a foot off the ground and frantically reached for the doorknob.

"Hey, (y/n), it's just me, Johnny." Johnny said, stepping out of the shadows.

"Gosh, Johnny, you scared me." I replied, holding a hand over my pounding heart.

"Sorry," he chuckled slightly, "I didn't mean to. I just.. Well, I know it's late, but I could really use some extra piano lessons."

"Of course."
.
It wasn't long before Johnny was playing his backup song: I'm Still Standing, with almost no problems.

"That's good." I said.

"Thank you." He smiled.

For the first time ever, I smiled to him. "You're welcome."

"You should smile more." He said. "It looks nice."

My jaw immediately dropped as I blushed. No one has ever given me a complaint before—well, besides my family. But we couldn't mean it, could he. No, not in a million years.

Still, it didn't stop my heart from pounding heavily in my chest.

"Why do you even try?" I found the words I've been wanting to say for so long now, coming out of my mouth.

"Why do you even try to be nice to me when I'm-when I'm-when I'm this thing?" I gestured to myself.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"No one has ever been nice to me before, ever. Then you come along and suddenly that all changes. Why do you even try?" I asked again.

"Why be mean to you when all you have been is kind?" He stated.

"Because I'm a monster. That's why." I said. "No one really cares about me. Not you. Not the crew... Not even my own family."

"They care. I care. Why do you think we don't?" He asked.

"Because I don't even care about myself!" I snapped. "I'm as good as dead for all I care!"

His jaw dropped as if he was going to say something, but then it closed and he was silent.

I sighed. "I should be going." I stood up and started walking away, ignoring his protests.

"(Y/n), stop, I'm sorry."

"Have a nice night, Johnny." I said before running off.

Why did I even hope in the first place? I always ruin everything...
.
A/n: Until next time.
