Chapter 35

A/n: what's up my dudes! I changed the song from the movie to Just like Fire by Pink. Thank you all for your song suggestions. After a lot of thought, I chose this song because I thought it was the most fitting match for combining both the character and the theme of joy for the planet.

Word count- 1462 words

Enjoy~

Your POV

I didn't have time to go and congratulate Johnny for how good he did, I had to run down to beneath the stage and get ready for my part, which started any moment now.

I tried to calm my nervousness by taking deep breaths. This happened every time I ever preformed.

"Mission report: we have entered the Planet of Joy."

"Are you ready, (y/n)?)" Buster asked.

"Yes."

"All right, here we go. Time to show the world what you're made of, again."

The trampoline floor shot me up onto the stage. I looked out into the crowd, much, much larger than any I have ever seen before. The turnout was amazing.

I know that I'm running out of time
I want it all, mmm-mmm
And I'm wishing they'd stop tryna turn me off
I want it all, mmm-mmm
And I'm walking on a wire, trying to go higher
Feels like I'm surrounded by clowns and liars
Even when I get it all the way
I want it all, mmm-mmm

Angry-looking blow up aliens sprang from the floor. I walked by all of them, poking or tracing my fingers along them. As they were to touched they "popped" and became happy-looking and more colorful.

I turned to face the stage, continuing to sing as more and larger blow up aliens sprang from the floor.

We came here to run it, run it, run it (uh-huh)
We came here to run it (yup), run it (uh), run it
Just like fire, burning up the way
If I can light the world up for just one day
Watch this madness, colorful charade
No one can be just like me anyway
Just like magic, I'll be flying free
I'ma disappear when they come for me
I kick that ceiling, what you gonna say?
No one can be just like me anyway
Just like fire, uh

I tried not to think about how Crystal could be bursting into here any moment—or was already here. Some of the smaller blow up aliens deflated, and were replaced by trampolines so I could jump from one to the other.

We came here to run it, run it, run it (uh, uh)
So look, I came here to run it (yup)
Just 'cause nobody's done it (uh-huh)
Y'all don't think I can run it
But look, I've been here, I've done it
Impossible? Please
Watch, I do it with ease
You just gotta believe
Come on, come on with me

As I spun around, I could see the hundreds of tap dancers who stood on shelves on the wall, illuminated by orange, red, and yellow lights that flickered like fire.

Oh, what's a girl to do?
(What, what?)
Hey, what's a girl to do?
(Yeah, what?)
Oh, what's a girl to do?
(What, what?)
Mmm, what's a girl to do?

The shelves that the tap dances were on started to move until they became like stairs. They all made their way down to the stage and circled me, their fire-colored lights changing so they now formed rainbows around me.

Just like fire, burning up the way
If I can light the world up for just one day
Watch this madness, colorful charade
No one can be just like me anyway
Just like fire, burning up the way
If I can light the world up for just one day (one day)
Watch this madness, colorful charade (hey, hey)
No one can be just like me anyway
Just like magic, I'll be flying free
I'ma disappear when they come for me
I kick that ceiling, what you gonna say?
No one can be just like me anyway

When they were done circling, the floor started to raise, each layer higher than the next, resembling a huge cake or cake platter where I was the top.

Just like fire (run it), fire (run it)
Run it (uh)
Just like fire (we came here to run it, run it, run it)

"Running!" I ended

Fireworks erupted in the background, followed by lots of applause.

I stared out into the crowd, trying to catch my breath. More people than I had ever seen before, cheering for us, for me.

"Mission report," Rosita said. "No sign here of the missing space explorer. I'm moving to the next planet."

The floor beneath me went back down to ground level. I kept waving to the crowd until all of the tap dancers exited the stage. When they were gone, I gave one last final wave before hopping down into one of the holes in the stage.

Smiling wildly from the adrenaline rush and the performance-high, I made my way down the stairs. And down there waiting for me, was Johnny.

He held his arms out and I finished going down the stairs and right into his arms. We both laughed and hugged.

"You did amazing!" He said.

"So did you! And making up that whole end scene on the spot was so impressive."

"We're just that good, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess."

After the excitement of preforming started to wear off, I realized how close Johnny and I were. I hoped I wasn't making him uncomfortable.

"Heh, sorry," I said, backing away.

"For what?"

"I don't know—"

"(Y/n), I hugged you, remember?"

"I-I guess."

He stepped forward and hugged me once more. I did something I haven't ever really done before—I allowed myself to relax and fully melt into the hug, pulling him just as close as he was pulling me, and rested my head against him.

"Remember how you said that you're glad you're here?"

"Mhmm."

He pulled away slightly to look at me. "I'm glad you're here too." I knew he wasn't just talking about this show, he was talking about so much more. "We're lucky to have you... I'm lucky to have you."

I fought to not turn my head away nervously and to keep our eye contact.

"Really," He said, looking at me like he has never before. "I appreciate you so much."

"Johnny..." I pulled my arms down so they were no longer wrapped around him and were resting against his shoulders. It pushed me back away from him a little bit. Whenever I was nervous, I always wanted to get away. "I'm nervous. This is... all new to me."

"I know. But you don't have to be. It's just me, right?"

I nodded. "Yeah."

He kept looking down at me and pulled me closer.

Was this really going to happen?

And he kissed me.

Kissed me!

I felt both heavy and light at the same time. All throughout my life, I thought that I would never have this with anyone, ever, so the thought of what this would be like or feel like never crossed my mind.

His arms held me in a tight but not suffocating grip. It was perfect.

We pulled away after a few moments, not too long, not too short.

My brain felt like it was short-circuiting. I didn't know what to say or what to do, but when I looked at Johnny, I felt my tension ease, because I started to laugh. There was a bit of green paint on his face.

"Shoot, Johnny, I got you all green." I reached out and started to wipe the paint away.

"Worth it," He said, leaning in to kiss me once more quickly. "You have no idea how long I've been wanting to do that."

"Really?" I asked.

"Really," He responded.

When I didn't respond, he followed up with:

"Really, (y/n). I'm being honest when I say that I really like you. I'm not confused. This isn't a trick. None of that. I just want you."

My face, my face was definitely turning red, but I think the face paint was hiding it.

"I love it when your face gets all red. I wish I could see it right now."

I was at a loss for words, so I just laughed and hugged him.

A/n: There it is. Some of you waited years for that moment. It finally happened.

We are approaching the end. Let me know if there's anything you want to see that takes place after the movie. I'd be willing to write a chapter or two if it seems fitting :)

See you next time, my dudes!
