Darry got up to open the door as we all watched. I couldn’t see who was there but I could hear them. They sounded familiar but I couldn’t place them. Their voice sounded different from the last time I heard them. “Alright come in.” Darry finally agreed and I could finally see them. My jaw dropped when I saw that familiar shaggy red hair and green eyes. I jumped and ran over to him and jumped into his arms. “SHAUN!!! You’re back!!” I shouted as he laughed and quickly spun me around before letting me go. “Hey Jennie, how are you? I haven’t talked to you since your birthday.” He said and smiled at me. I then realized something, he didn’t know the gang. I grabbed his wrist and dragged him in front of the couch. “Guys, this is my absolute bestest friend in the whole wide world, Shaun.” I said and pointed to him. The gang all rather waved to him or said a polite hello. “Shaun this is Steve, Two-Bit, Dally, Sodapop, Darry, stupid over there that you know, and last but certainly not least my other favorite guy, Ponyboy Curtis, my boyfriend.” I said and pointed to each of the guys as I said their name and Johnny came over to hit me after called him stupid. I grabbed Ponyboy’s wrist and held him and Shaun together to create a wall, so Johnny couldn’t get to me. “No fair, both these guys are bigger than me.” He whined. “Johnny practically everyone’s bigger than you.” I said and I saw his hands ball into fists. “You know I hate you, but you’re my sister so I can’t.” He said and simply walked away. I laughed and put my arms around Ponyboy’s and Shaun’s shoulders which felt weird cause they were both taller. “So Jennie, how badly do you boss these boys around?” Shaun asked and turned to me. “Not that bad.” I said and all the guys scoffed. “Not that bad my ass, you’re always yelling at us.” Steve said. “No I’m always yelling at you, Steve, because you don’t know how to fucking use a goddamn plate and fork.” I said and pointed to him. He crossed his arms in defeat. “You haven’t changed a bit.” Shaun said with a huge influence of sarcasm. I shoved his shoulder. “Jen, tell Shaun what happened to you the day after you talked to him. I’m sure he’s going to love to hear it.” Johnny said leaning against the doorframe and his voice was full of sarcasm. “What happened?” Shaun asked and turned to me. “Well…. I was jumped by Socs, who then tried to rape me.” I said and he pulled my into a tight hug. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” He asked and I shrugged. “Hey, buddy, hands off my girl.” Pony said with coldness to his voice. Shaun let me go but held his hands up. “Relax; I’m not going to steal her from you. I don’t even like her like that.” He said but Pony didn’t believe him. “Why not? Every guy in town is dying to date her, why not you?” Pony asked getting in his face. “Ponyboy, calm down. I would never leave you for someone else.” I said but they just ignored me. “Because, I don’t like girls, I’m gay.” Shaun explained and Pony seemed so calm saying it. I knew Shaun didn’t really care what people thought about him but for him to say it so straight forward was weird. Ponyboy seemed to calm down at that. “Okay that makes me feel better.” He said and wrapped his arm around my waist. I chuckled. “Wait, Johnny didn’t you want us to meet a gay, Irish guy?” Soda asked and Pony and Darry both nodded looking at Johnny. I looked at Johnny and crossed my arms. “Um…” He said and I raised my eyebrows at him. “Explain.” I said simply. “Um… well you see…” Johnny said and before he finished he ran off outside. “JONATHAN CADE, GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!!” I shouted and ran after him. Pony ran after me. “Jennie, take your skateboard.” Pony said and handed it to me. I put it down while running and leaped on it. I pushed one, two, three times to go faster. “I’m going to catch you, Johnathan!” I shouted and pushed faster. I was catching up to him by the second. I was close enough to him to jump onto him so that’s what I did. He fell to the ground and rolled over to face me. I pinned his arms down next to his head. “Johnny, how could you have Shaun meet the gang without telling me?” I asked and he looked away from my eyes. “I’m sorry Jen, I know I should have told you, but I was thinking about introducing you to the gang and I’m not a good judge of character so I was going to have Shaun tell me if you should meet the gang or not.” He said and I got off him and he sat up. “Yea, but what if he didn’t think I could hang out with them and he continued to hang out with them and I wouldn’t have anybody.” I said and looked down. “Come on Jen, you know I would never leave you behind like that.” “I know, but when you only have a few people in this world, you’re always afraid of losing them.” I said and looked back into his eyes. Johnny hugged me tight. “Jennie, you’re never going to lose me, no matter what. Okay, please understand that.” He said and held onto me a little tighter. “Okay, Johnny I know.” I said and hugged him back. “Come on let’s go back to Pony’s then go home to get some sleep.” He said and helped me up with his hand and picked up my skateboard for me. Johnny draped his arm around my shoulder and we walked back to the Curtis house in silence.
