Eighteen
"I'm not sure if this is such a good idea.", Raiden noted while he clung to the shield of the turtle and tried his hardest not to loose his footing on the surface that was covered with algae.
Amused, you smirked. You stood on top of the horse statues head, one of your feet popped onto the other to arrange with the little space it offered.
You couldn't help but feel some sort of interest burn up in your chest as you let your gaze wander along all the others.
All of them seemed to struggle with the strange platforms one way or another. Kenshi barely managed to squeeze himself into the small space while Johnny didn't even try and just clung to his with both hands, trying his hardest to keep his feet dry.
Raiden appeared to be at least managing and Kung Lao even surprised you. With his arms crossed and a grin of victory on his lips he stood on top of his statue.
"I'm ready.", he said and did a gesture to demand someone get closer.
With his teeth clenched and eyebrows drawn together, Kenshi let out a dismissive sound.
"How are we supposed to fight like this?", he asked and adjusted his stance.
"Jump.", you said as a matter of fact and made it over to Kung Lao in the blink of an eye. "Like this."
Startled, he slipped and almost fell. You offered him a hand which he managed to grab just in time. His feet popped against the wooden surface of his statue, he hung halfway in the air. Only your weight and the tension in his own body kept him from falling.
Worried, he stared at you with his eyes wide open.
"Don't.", he knew exactly that you would.
"Sorry.", you gifted him an apologetic expression. "Rules are rules. The monks will teach you the importance of them."
A loud splash filled the tense silence as Kung Lao landed in the water. Perfectly round pearls splashed up and shattered on the surface.
Small rings formed and were interrupted in their calm rhythm as he broke through it with his head and a grim expression on his face. Strands of wet hair stuck to his forehead.
"This is not as fun as I thought.", he muttered and threw a glance upwards.
Raiden smiled.
"Maybe this could be fun.", he said and let his gaze wander over to the other two.
Johnny stiffened. He seemed to know that he would be the next target. But it wouldn't have been Johnny if he would have taken that without fighting back.
"Oh, I don't think so, farm boy.", he said and pointed a finger at him. "I won't go down without a fight."
"Let's put that to the test then.", without warning, Kenshi pulled a sword from his side and tried to swing at Johnny.
The martial arts star jumped, dodged the blade and went for a kick. You recognised the move and expected him to disrespect Kenshi just the way he had you by aiming between your legs.
But instead he gave him a kick to the chest.
Struck by the raw force that Johnny fought with, Kenshi stumbled back. One of his feet slipped. He lost his footing and threatened to fall off the statue.
He chose to sacrifice his sword instead. It fell into the water with a splash, allowing Kenshi to pull himself up and strike back at Johnny.
"Damn, not bad.", you admitted with a huff.
"Don't forget me!", all of a sudden Raiden was right next to you.
His hand swung at you, threatening to hit your most sensitive unguarded body part, your legs.
Startled, you jumped to the side and did a flip, only to land on the dragon on which both Johnny and Kenshi were still fighting with one another.
You dodged one of Johnny's punched and slid a leg between his to make him stumble.
His hand reached out to grab you to hold onto but you jumped away to escape a jump kick that Raiden aimed at you.
Surprised, he didn't manage to stop himself no more and crashed right into Johnny.
"Oh, fuck!", Johnnys arms wrapped around Raiden's waist.
His legs slipped. There was no space to fall back to.
"Let go!", he gasped as gravity kicked in.
"It's me and you till the end, baby!", Johnny spit back.
Realisation struck too late and all that was left to do was to accept their fate and fall into the cold water. It splashed everywhere, so high, that Kenshi had no choice but to jump over to another statue.
You tried to catch him mid air but the swordsman turned out to be a lot more flexible than you had expected. His hand jumped forward, fingers wrapped around your wirst.
His weight shifted and you realised he wanted to throw you over his shoulder and into the water.
Out of reflex, your entire body stiffened. Kenshi couldn't handle the sudden shift of strength he needed to proceed with his plan.
Struck, his legs gave in. With a groan, he fell to his back, just right so that he didn't slip off yet.
Desperately, you clung to him, one foot rested on each side of his body to keep yourself from slipping.
His hands wrapped around your collar as he tried to wrestle with you for the upper hand.
"Not that much fighting going on, huh?", you asked with a huff, leaning back to work with gravity against him.
All of a sudden a smug smirk appeared on Kenshi's face.
Confused, you frowned.
"It's not always about fighting.", he said, his grip on you loosened. "Sometimes it's about strategy."
Suddenly his hands let go of you.
It was too late to react now. Your body was bend back too far, weight shifted downwards making you throw yourself back into the water.
Annoyed, you groaned as cold water wrapped around your body, soaked your clothes and made your skin grow goosebumps.
With your breath held you let your eyes wander across the mass of water for a moment. It was odd, but this was the first time someone had managed to beat or rather outsmart you.
At least someone who wasn't a god or handling magical powers.
