Scared for Each Other- Jack and Cathy
Third person's pov
"Jack, you did good. Real good... For an analyst." Jack didn't look at him and continued to look in front of him replying with "Fuck you." His mind was muddled with the thought of how he just killed someone, how he took someone's father away. He also hoped nothing happened to Cathy, he knew she wanted casual but what about this was casual?
"Oh, you talk to your boss like that, you end up in a shitty cubicle, writing terrorist finance briefs." Jack turned to look at him, no change in his expression. "Promise?" Jim had a subtle smile on his face before he left Jack to sit alone.
Jim walked up the metro stairs, ready to leave this situation for the night. He was surprised when he saw Cathy looking lost, trying to call a 'Jack' that was supposedly not picking up. He realized that Jack and Cathy were a thing when Jack wouldn't stop sending her messages to leave the hospital just earlier that evening.
He walked over to her, she was in her own world but was shaken out of it when his hand contacted her shoulder. She looked at him startled but calmed down when she noticed it was Jim.
"Do you know where Jack is?" she asked, her eyes showing concern and worry. He nodded, "Yeah, he's down there, but they won't let you go since you're not a cop." She looked at the road, slightly relieved but also sad she can't go and meet the man.
Jim let out a sigh before telling her he could take her down there and then leave. She thanked him profusely for his kindness. He just shrugged it off, leaving immediately after letting her through.
She slowly walked down the dirty steps of the metro, hoping to see Jack in a good state. She hoped nothing happened to him. Knowing he was chasing a terrorist scared the shit out of her, she wanted nothing more than to hold him close, far away from any danger because as much as she wanted this to be casual, she couldn't deny these feelings.
He came into her view, she watched him sit against the wall, his eyes focused on the wall in front of him. He looked ok, she smiled and called out to him, "Jack," he looked to his right and watched as the prettiest girl walked towards him. A grin played on his face as he replied with a soft but happy "Cathy...".
Her smile dropped when she went closer to him and saw the bandaged bullet wound. "Oh my God! Jack! What happened? Are you ok?" He liked the concern she showed for him, which resulted in him looking at his hands with a soft smile.
"Stop smiling Jack!" she softly smacked his good arm, "Sorry. Sorry. It's just nice to see you. I was worried about you." he rested his head back on the wall as he stared at her with adoration in his eyes.
"You didn't answer my question," she said this time with a softer tone, the way he looked at her made her cheeks warm up just a bit. He rolled his eyes playfully before answering his usual answer, "I'm ok." she gave him a pointed look. He chuckled "I am! I mean for chasing a terrorist, this is the least I could've gotten hurt." She was much closer now, her fingers grazing the sides of the bandage, examining his shoulder.
He slowly reached up and took her hand, brought it back to his lap, and rubbed small circles on her skin, pulling her closer to him. "How are you? You seem uneasy." She felt a flutter in her stomach because of the newfound contact. She didn't know how he even knew something happened but in all honesty, she wanted to tell him.
"I was in an elevator with one of the terrorists, I knew something was off but I wasn't sure exactly what... When we reached the 4th floor, Jim was on the other side and he immediately shot him. I know it's nothing but I was... scared" He furrowed his eyebrows and let out a sigh. He pulled her into a hug, kissing her temple, "No. Don't invalidate your feelings. I would've been scared too." he whispered.
"No you wouldn't." she let out a soft chuckle, he smiled "No I wouldn't, but that doesn't mean I wasn't scared for you. Now it's all over." He kissed her head again.
She pulled away from the hug to look into his eyes, "I was scared for you." he smiled sadly and said, "I was scared for you too". She leaned forward and closed the gap between their lips. As they pulled away from the soft but meaningful kiss, they rested their foreheads against each other, content with the moment.
