The moon hung low in the night sky, casting a silvery glow over the deserted training grounds. M/N sat on the edge of the wooden platform, staring into the darkness, where the world felt both vast and suffocating. The air was thick with unspoken words and the heavy weight of memories that refused to fade.

Gojo Satoru, his mentor and closest friend, had always been the light in M/N's life. With his trademark smirk and carefree attitude, he seemed invincible, the strongest sorcerer in their world. But tonight, that façade felt fragile, like glass ready to shatter.

"M/N," Gojo's voice broke through the silence, deep and soothing. He approached, hands in pockets, an easy smile plastered on his face. But M/N could see the exhaustion etched in the lines around Gojo's eyes.

"Hey," M/N replied, forcing a smile that felt like a mask.

Satoru plopped down beside M/N, their shoulders brushing, warmth radiating from his presence. But instead of comfort, M/N felt a chill in the air, a reminder of the inevitable. They sat in silence, the weight of unspoken feelings hanging between them like an unyielding fog.

"Something on your mind?" Gojo asked, tilting his head slightly, his gaze penetrating yet gentle. M/N turned away, staring into the shadows that loomed like specters of doubt.

"I just... I don't want to lose you," M/N admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. The confession hung in the air, fragile and trembling.

Gojo's expression shifted, the playful light dimming for a moment. "You won't lose me, M/N. I'm not going anywhere," he said, but M/N could hear the hollow ring of those words. The world they lived in was dangerous, and Gojo faced threats that could easily take him away.

"But you can't promise that," M/N replied, a lump forming in his throat. "You fight against curses every day. You put yourself in danger, and I can't just stand by and watch."

Gojo turned to M/N fully, his eyes reflecting the pain of unspoken fears. "I do what I do because I want to protect you. You mean everything to me."

M/N felt his heart ache at those words, but they also felt like a chain binding him in place. He knew the truth—that every battle Gojo fought could be his last. The thought of a world without him was suffocating, a nightmare he couldn't shake.

"Don't say that," M/N said, fighting back tears. "It's too much to bear. I can't imagine a day without you."

Gojo reached out, cupping M/N's face in his hand, his touch gentle yet firm. "You have to trust me. I'll find a way to come back, no matter what. I promise."

M/N leaned into Gojo's hand, feeling the warmth seep into his skin. In that moment, he wanted to believe. But reality loomed like a storm cloud, heavy and dark—promises could be broken, and hope could be cruel.

"Promise me something in return," M/N whispered, his voice trembling.

"Anything," Gojo replied, eyes unwavering.

"Promise you'll fight for your life, not just for mine," M/N pleaded, desperation creeping into his voice. "I don't want to be the reason you take unnecessary risks."

Gojo's smile returned, though it felt tinged with sadness. "I can't make that promise. I'll always protect you, even if it means putting myself in danger."

M/N felt his heart shatter at the admission. They were caught in a cycle of sacrifice, and he knew the price of that love was steep. As the night deepened, silence enveloped them once more, but the unshed tears threatened to spill over.

"I don't want to say goodbye," M/N finally whispered, his voice cracking under the weight of emotion.

"Then don't," Gojo said, pulling M/N into a tight embrace. "Just hold on to the memories we make. We'll face whatever comes together."

But as M/N nestled against him, he felt the fragility of that promise. The world was uncertain, and no matter how strong Gojo was, the darkness was always lurking, ready to claim what it desired.

The memory of the last battle crept into M/N's mind—a flash of curses, the chaos that ensued. He remembered the way Gojo had shielded him, how he had fought like a warrior possessed. But what if next time, he couldn't come back? The thought gnawed at M/N like a relentless beast.

"What if you don't come back?" M/N's voice was barely a whisper, choked with fear.

Gojo pulled back slightly, searching M/N's eyes. "You can't think like that. I will always find a way back to you."

"But what if you don't?" M/N's heart raced, panic clawing at his chest. "What if I have to live in a world where you're gone?"

The moment stretched painfully, the weight of possibility hanging between them. Gojo's expression softened, a mixture of sadness and determination. "If that ever happens, I need you to keep living. For me."

Tears spilled down M/N's cheeks, and he fought to compose himself. "How can I live without you? You're everything to me."

Gojo wiped away M/N's tears, his thumb brushing against his cheek. "You carry me with you, always. You find strength in the memories we've made, in the love we share. Promise me you'll do that."

The thought of facing a future without Gojo felt like a chasm opening beneath M/N. "It's not fair," he cried, voice trembling. "Why does it have to be this way?"

Gojo's eyes glimmered with unshed tears of his own. "Life isn't fair, M/N. It never has been. But I want you to promise me you'll keep fighting, even when I'm not there."

"I can't," M/N admitted, feeling the despair clawing at his heart. "I don't want to fight without you."

Gojo pulled M/N into another embrace, holding him tightly as if he could shield him from the impending darkness. "You have to be strong for both of us. I believe in you."

But M/N felt small in that moment, the weight of his fears pressing down on him. "What if I'm not strong enough?" he whispered.

"Then I'll be your strength," Gojo replied softly. "And I'll always be watching over you."

In the embrace of the night, M/N closed his eyes, letting the warmth of Gojo's presence envelop him. But the shadows still loomed, threatening to consume them both. He held on tightly, fighting against the darkness, knowing that every moment they shared was a gift—but also a reminder of the pain that could come.

And for now, that was all M/N could do—hold on and hope that their love would be enough to light the way through the shadows.

"I'd win though."
