Chapter Eight: Thirty Minutes
I'm faded away,
You know I used to be on fire.
I'm standing in the ashes of who I used to be.

"You should just kill yourself, you murderer!"
Murmurs and slandering words were thrown at me left and right. Somehow, the news that I was the prime suspect in Jessica's murder, and spread like wildfire and the entire school despised me.
"Fuck you! You're a sick bastard, killing her off the way you did. You think you can just show up in our town and kill everyone we love. Who do you think you are?" One of Jessica's friends took it upon herself to pounce on me.
I jumped before she could claw me with her nails and bumped into a guy behind me.
"You're a freak! Go to hell!" He shouted at me.
I felt my eyes water as I drew a deep breath, hoping to remain calm.
A group of cheerleaders glared at me as they whispered. "I heard she was a jealous bitch who couldn't take being in the spotlight. What a psychotic-."
I couldn't bear it.
I ran as fast as my feet could take me.
I stormed out of the school with the glass doors slamming behind me, leaving behind every tormenting insult that spewed out of their awful mouths. My breathing was heavy and fast-paced as my Converse scraped against the pavement of the school parking lot.
My backpack swung on my back, left and right, as my heart raced and I ran into the woods.
I fell to my knees out of breath and began to cry.
My life was falling apart. My words meant nothing and my reputation was tangible.
The only person in this town, who I can call a friend, is a ghost and calling him a friend is being generous.
I slammed my fists down onto the leaves and let out an angry scream. Running my hands through my hair, I sat down on a large rock and stared down at my black jeans.
"Moping gets you nowhere."
I jumped at the bland voice.
"Who the hell are you?"
He smirked at me, taking a long drag from his cigarette. "The question is 'who the hell are you?'"
I got up from the ground wiping my hands on my jeans. "Don't mess with me." I snapped.
The boy chuckled. "I'm so scared. What's your deal? Why're you here?" He proceeded to ask me more questions.
I crossed my arms as I stared at him. "Why am I here? What do you mean?"
He had a black hoodie on with his hood over his head. Black hair peeked out of his hood as he stared back at me with his intense green glare.
"Girls like you shouldn't be here." He puffed as his cigarette departed from his lips.
"Girls like me? Here? What are you talking about?" I began to feel exasperated with this mysterious boy.
"Y'know, good girls. And here, as in- the spot."
"I'm so confused, what the hell is the spot?" I was beyond annoyed with this idiot.
"Everyone at Ravenwood knows that this is where you come to sell or get stoned. Sometimes people even get laid right on that very rock you sat on." The boy smirked widely and I shivered in disgust.
I crinkled my nose. "You're disgusting. This school is filled with low lives. I'm leaving." I started to stomp back to school as the leaves crunched beneath my feet.
My wrist was suddenly caught by the boy's hand, I let out a small shriek.
"Let go!"
"It's not your fault. It was them, they did this." He looked into my eyes and I relaxed in his hold.
"W-Who? Wait, who are you?" I asked and he released my wrist.
He threw his cigarette on the ground and crushed it beneath his foot. "If you need answers..or anything just look for Griffin."
He removed his hoodie swiftly and sprinted deeper into the woods.
I shielded my eyes from the sun as I watched his retreating back. "Wait!" I yelled.
But he never turned back.

"Truancy? What is going on, Lilith?" Grandma Violet's hard gaze burnt holes in the back of my head.
I avoided every pestering question as I ran up the spiral stairs, straight to my room.
I locked my bedroom door and threw my backpack onto my bed.
"Where have you been? If not at school, where else, Lilith?" Grandma jiggled my locked doorknob around and I sighed as I stared at it.
"Open this door, young lady." She raised her voice and I pursed my lips.
I didn't answer her and I most certainly didn't open the door.
With the given silence, I heard Grandma Violet sigh, before she left.
"Very well," She seemed to mutter. "You'll have to come down for dinner sometime." I heard her retreating footsteps and I sunk into my bed.
Rolling onto my stomach, I buried my head in my pillow and groaned.
I needed to take action.
I needed answers like Griffin had said.
It was time.
I sprung up from my bed and went into my closet. I grabbed a new pair of jeans and a grey hoodie. I put on the washed out jeans and pulled on the hoodie as fast as I could, leaving today's clothes on the floor. I grabbed an old backpack off of my top shelf and stuffed it with a couple shirts, pants, and undergarments.
I slipped on some black Converse as I threw my wallet in my old backpack.
I pulled my hood on and cracked open my window, but before I could open it fully it slammed closed. I gasped and jumped back.
"And where do you think you're going?"
I placed a hand on my heart and closed my eyes. "Alec, what the actual hell?"
"Where are you going, Lilith?" He crossed his arms and I bit my lip. His eyes darted to my lips and back up to my eyes.
"I'm...I need to run an errand." I replied nervously.
Alec leaned against the window pane and I shamelessly ran my eyes over his muscular frame. "You're going to run an errand? Through the window?" He asked skeptically.
I chewed on my lip anxiously.
"Alec, I just need to go"
"Go where? You can't run away from your problems." He explains as his eyes quickly glance at my lips again.
"I'm not running away from my problems! I need answers and I'm not going to find them here." I hitched my backpack strap on my shoulder.
"So, you're running away?" Alec asked me quietly.
"Yes." I bit my lip harder.
Alec nodded and cleared his throat.
"I guess I should go with you then."
I bit my lip too hard as I winced.
"You can't come with me! You're a ghost!"
Alec rolled his eyes.
"Give me thirty minutes."
"Thirty minutes to do what?" I tasted a metallic flavor in my mouth as he scoffed.
"Stop doing that." Alec scolded me.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Stop doing what?"
Alec stood up straighter as he walked to me and placed his hand on my cheek.
He leaned in, his breath fanned over my lips.
"Biting your lip." He brushed his thumb over my lip. My breath hitched in my throat and I watched as he showed me his thumb.
"See? Blood." Alec's brown eyes looked into my own as I looked down and saw red liquid on his thumb.
"Oh," I replied shakily and proceeded to bite my lip again.
Alec chuckled. "Stop on your own, or I'll make you." He smirked widely at me and I raised an eyebrow at his remark.
"Make me?"
Alex placed his other hand on the other side of my face and placed his lips to my ear.
"I. will. make. you." He said antagonizingly slow.
I shivered and he placed a cold soft kiss on my earlobe. "Thirty minutes." Alec pulled away and grinned.
"Alec," I protested, slightly flushed. "Thirty minutes for what?" I brushed strands of hair out of my face self consciously.
"To get ready. I'm coming with you."
