Thirty nine - in which Jace wants Simon to break up with his girlfriend (SH)
A/N: Thank you, my darlings, who inspired me to write this one, with this particular song (that you suggested).
@bisexualwxrlock and @God_in_a_tortilla I love you both SO MUCH.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Those red hair we're insultingly bright, in his opinion. And what's with that pink minidress? I mean, if you want to look like a hooker, it must've hit the jackpot. Even Izzy wouldn't wear something that short, not to mention that color was horrid and it clashed with her hair. Jace shook his head. Did he just notice how Clary's hair didn't go with her outfit? He'd been spending way too much time with Magnus. But that's what you get, when you want to spend time with your parabatai. You get the other half as well, and it was totally fine by Jace, if they'd just stop making out every five seconds. It was really annoying.
He eyed the two on his right, doing just that. He rolled his eyes so expressedly, the bartender, Maia, caught it and laughed. "Careful, keep doing that and you might actually find a brain back there." she said, flipping the shaker in her hand, the ice clashing, barely audible over the loud music thumping in Jace's ears and through his body. It felt like the beat was trying to get his heart to go into arrhythmia, but the mellow voice of a woman singing was actually quite nice. The blonde gave Maia a dashing smile.
"Haa-haa. You're hilarious. Keep up with the dad jokes and you'll give Alec a run for his money." Jace said sarcastically, while Maia handed him another beer. Her eyes went to the place Jace had just been scoping a minute earlier. "I don't get what he sees in her. She's an outright bitch, and that dress is just horrible." she said, her frizzy hair bouncing as she shook her head.
"Well, I'm no expert, but she has got a great ass-" Jace said, earning a very painful shove from Maia. "Watch it, Lightwood." she said, glaring and Jace laughed. "Besides, you've been eyeing them ever since you sat down. Just go and steal your man, I know Simon wants that." she said, teasing, wiggling her dark eyebrows. Jace gave the werewolf girl a bored stare. "I've been eyeing that blonde over there. We blondes gotta stick together, you know?" Jace said, playing it off and Maia caught a glimpse of the girl, waving at Jace, a seductive smile on her face.
"Oh please, you'd take dick over pussy any day, even if we're dealing with a natural blonde here." Maia said bluntly, making Jace widen his eyes at her. "You and your potty mouth. Be glad Alec didn't hear that." he said and just then, his brother decided to accompany them, Magnus on his arm. "Hear what?" he asked, motioning for Maia to get a drink. Maia smirked, giving him a beer and slid a cocktail towards Magnus, who thanked her graciously. He flicked his hand, making a blue flame appear on the cocktail, before the warlock took a sip.
"That Jace wants to tap that." Maia said, loudly, nodding towards Simon, who was being stroked on the arm by Clary. Magnus made a noise, while drinking his cocktail and then set it down, with a sly grin. "We been known." he said, making Jace groan, rolling his eyes. Alec gave him a disapproving look. "I mean, sure, he's... attractive, but don't you usually go looking for one-nights? Simon is a 'heart and flowers' kind of guy." he stated and Maia nodded.
"Why are we having this discussion? I don't want anything from him. And even if I did, I could turn anyone into a one-night stand, he'd even thank me for it." Jace replied, sipping his beer, eyes on the pair. Clary was tossing her hair, laughing (Ugh, that sound) and Simon was smiling at her. His face looked amazing, his glasses making him look nerdy hot.
You got me some type of way
Ain't used to feelin' this way
I do not know what to say
But I know I shouldn't think about it
Alec made a noise. "Always so arrogant." he said, displeased, but Magnus leaned on the counter with a smirk. "Listen, blondie. Simon would say 'yes' in an instant, you're just too stubborn to admit that you've got a thing for our nerd here." he said with a winning smile and Alec chuckled. Maia nodded, smiling at him. "He's got a point." she said and Magnus waved his hand. "I've always got a point. I AM the frickin' point." he said and Alec laughed. "And what a fine point you are." he said, Magnus leaning on him drunkenly, making Alec giggle. Jace sighed. "What the hell are you two talking about?" Maia asked, incredulous, but Jace waved her off. "I'm afraid not even they know." he stated, eyes still on Simon and Clary.
And then, the vampire looked past Clary, right at him. His brown eyes were dark in the dim light of the club and there was no mistake that he caught Jace's eye - he smiled slightly and gave him a wink. Jace almost toppled down from his stool. "Listen, at least keep me company if you're going to be brooding there all night. I don't want to third-wheel." Maia said, cleaning a glass and eyeing Alec and Magnus. "You're just jealous." Magnus stated with a glare and Maia snorted, her eyes glinting green for a split second. "Yeah, you got me. I've always wanted to make out with Alec." she said and while Alec blushed, Magnus seemed very much offended. "I take that as a great insult, by the way." the warlock said glumly. "I don't." Alec chimed in, earning a stare from his boyfriend.
Maia laughed and Jace rolled his eyes once again. He was becoming Alec in that particular field. What's next? He'd start telling terrible jokes like Simon? Jace eyed the two and saw Simon shake his head at something Clary had said. His arms were now folded, his biceps showing underneath the black T-shirt. It had words "I'd rather be at Hogwarts" printed on them, and thanks to their movie night, Jace knew what the fuck it meant. Simon's mouth was quirked up and to Jace's surprise, he could spot the protruding fangs under his lip as he smiled. Jace's heart did a flip as he observed the vampire. He looked hotter than usual, but he had no idea why. Simon's hand rose to trace his bottom lip and unaware of it, Jace licked his lips. He wondered what it would be like if the vampire bit him.
Took one fuckin' look at your face
Now I wanna know how you taste
Usually don't give it away
But you know I'm out here thinkin' 'bout it
"Earth to blondie!" Maia practically yelled and Jace's eyes went to her quickly. She was smirking wide. "What? Can't you see I'm in the middle of something?" he asked and Maia raised and eyebrow, sliding a beer to a bulky looking werewolf to their right. "Of eye-fucking? Yes, I can see that." she replied, clearly amused. Jace turned his body so he was now facing the girl, his back to the annoying couple (okay, only one of them was annoying). "Where'd Bonnie and Clyde go?" Jace asked and Maia snorted. "Don't you mean Danny and Sandy?" she asked and Jace hummed in thought. "You're right. Alec's Sandy, though." he said and Maia shook her head. "No way, with all that leather, Magnus is definitely Sandy." she said and Jace shook his head.
"That was not until the end of the movie. Alec is the Sandy that was still innocent and clueless." he stated and Maia paused to think. "Huh, I guess you're right. I think they went to 'check on Izzy'." she stated then, just as the girl herself plopped down next to them, slightly out of breath. "Damn, Seelies know how to dance!" she said, taking Jace's beer and gulping it, ignoring his protests. "Never mind, they just went to fuck in the bathroom, obviously." Maia said, when Izzy laid her hands on the counter, along with her head. "Excuse me?" Jace said, scrunching his nose and Maia laughed. "Oh, come on. You of all people can't act like a prude. Besides, you know they do it all the time." she offered and this sparked Izzy's interest. "Magnus and Alec are doing it? Good for them, at least one of the Lightwoods is getting it." she said, with a sad tone.
Maia raised an eyebrow at her. "What, Meliorn has got better things to do tonight? 'Cause let me tell you, girl, if that man don't see what a gem you are, he knows where the door is." she said pointedly and Izzy beamed at her. Jace wondered when those two became such good friends. Then again, he wasn't sure when he and Maia became such good friends, either. "I know, but it's a total drag. Like, can't a girl just get some?" she sighed and Jace laughed, moving a little to see what Simon and Clary were up to. She was dancing with him, moving very provocatively and Jace rolled his eyes. Izzy caught him staring. "Hmm, I could get rid of her if you want." she said, tilting her head and observing the redhead. "What?" Jace asked, alarmed.
Then I realize she's right there
And I'm at home like, "Damn, this ain't fair"
Izzy shrugged. "I know that dress is horrible, but she's pretty hot, actually. I could get rid of her and you can get with Simon." she stated, sipping her drink that Maia had just slid in front of her. The werewolf laughed, eyes glinting in the darkness of the club. "Isabelle, you are a queen, let me tell you." she told her and Isabelle beamed at her. "If I'm the queen then you must me god." she stated and Maia rolled her eyes, laughing together with her. Jace eyed the both of them, gesturing between them. "This, I don't like this. When did this happen?" he asked, alarmed once again. Isabelle scoffed. "I've never had many friends that we're girls. Maia is filling that spot and is doing a damn good job at it." she said, winking at the girl who smirked at Isabelle. Jace tried to ignore that and glanced back at Simon and Clary.
To his dismay, they we're coming their way. "Uh-oh. Gay panic, here we go." Maia snorted and Jace rolled his eyes. "If anyone should be panicking, it's him." Jace mumbled, staring at the vampire, who's hand was in Clary's. "Hey, guys. Maia, can we get two beers, please?" Simon asked, as they leaned against the counter. Maia smirked, giving Jace one more glance and went to fulfil the order, just as a slightly disheveled looking Alec and always on point Magnus returned. Alec's hand went to his hair, probably attempting to make it look like he was not just having sex.
"Had sex, did you?" Isabelle asked him bluntly and Alec choked on his water. Magnus's laugther ringed the loudest, as Alec's face turned red. "Why do you have to do that every time?" the shadowhunter asked his sister and Isabelle examined her nails. "Because, brother dear, I am still so astounded that out of all three of the Lightwood siblings, Max obviously excluded for the reason that he is too young, you were the one to score a hot warlock with the highest sex-drive I've ever seen." she reasoned, making them laugh and Alec splutter something. Magnus kissed his cheeks, making him stop and smiled at Isabelle. "Thank you for the compliment, darling." he said, sitting down next to her.
Simon sat down next to Jace, with Clary moving next to him. When the vampire sat, Jace reached for his drink, deliberately brushing his hand against Simon's. If Simon read anything into it, he was hiding it well and Jace smirked. If this was going to be a challenge, he was going to enjoy it all the more.
Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
You can hit it in the mornin'
Yeah, yeah, like it's yours
I know it ain't right
But I don't care (care)
Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
"So, Clary, how's your art school going?" Isabelle suddenly asked, clicking her way to Clary and sitting down next to her, flipping her long black hair. Her hand went to Clary's shoulder, briefly, and Jace shook his head slightly at Izzy. She was really being serious. The redhead seemed caught off guard, stammering something. Jace took the opportunity to talk to Simon. "So, how is it going in the paradise of steady relationships?" he asked and the vampire smirked at him, sipping his blood-infused drink. "It's pretty great. I mean, she's nice. I obviously wouldn't be with her if she wasn't." Simon replied and Jace felt slightly annoyed and guilty at the same time.
If Simon was happy, why couldn't he just leave it alone? Why did it always had to happen to him? And since when had he grown a conscience about these sort of things? But of course he knew the answer to that. It wasn't so much as Jace had gotten to be the gentleman who no longer slept with people who were in a relationship with others already - no, it was Simon. For some reason, he would've felt incredibly guilty, if Simon would've cheated on Clary. It didn't sound or feel right. But then Simon went and existed, looking like he did, and Jace kind of wanted to forget about good intentions and so forth.
He felt his thigh touch Simon's and his skin came alive with excitement. It was the thrill of the chase, no doubt. The excitement of trying to have something you couldn't, or rather, shouldn't. Jace wasn't as arrogant as everyone thought (barely), but he did know he could get Simon. Especially because the brunette eyed him, smiling like he was thinking of something funny, as pressed his leg against him even more.
"That's nice." Jace said lamely, cursing himself for not coming up with anything better. Simon laughed, his head tossed back and his teeth showing (luckily not the fangs, Jace wasn't sure what it was about them but they turned him on immensely. "You hate her." Simon said lowly, as to not let the redhead hear him. Luckily, she was distracted, by Izzy, just like the hunter had promised. Isabelle was batting her eyelashes, touching Clary's hand, tossing her hair and leaning into her - the works. Jace was pretty sure that even as person claiming to be as straight as her would eventually give in. He was almost laughing at the thought of Clary's sexual awakening.
"I do not." Jace replied smoothly. "I just don't get along with her." he said and that made Simon roll his eyes. Fuck, he looked hot doing that. "You don't get along with anyone who isn't your immediate family." the vampire said, taking another sip of his drink. Maia was back, reaching behind the counter and pulled a new cloth and started to wipe the taps. "He's right, you know. You only tolerate me because you know that I don't take any bullshit from you." the werewolf girl stated and Jace nodded thoughtfully. "It's refreshing." he agreed and Maia smiled a little, concentrating on getting the beer stains off the metal. Simon leaned back slightly, and Jace took a moment to admire his posture. His body had gone through a somewhat of a transformation, obviously, after becoming one of the Night Children, but that didn't mean he wasn't muscular before. Now it was just, so much more.
His glasses were there only because he liked them. He didn't need them to see anymore, so they were just there for... style? Magnus probably would've agreed, though Jace couldn't quite get why someone would want to wear glasses, if they could see perfectly fine. Although, maybe it was something that reminded Simon of his mundane life? That could be it. Jace knew he missed it, sometimes, even though being a vamp had its perks. His hair were better styled, like he had started to take care of it. His facial features were better drawn out, the jawline covered with a slight stubble. Jace wondered if he could get away with touching it. Probably not. That'd be extremely awkward. He shook his head, as Simon eyed him, amused.
This shit always happens to me
Why can't we just play for keeps?
Practically on my knees
But I know I shouldn't think about it
"The thing is," Simon started, smiling, like he was about to announce some kind of secret "that you seem to be extra rude to her. Like, Alec I get. He is rude to everyone (this earned a 'hey!' from Alec and a 'You know it's true' from Magnus). But you usually hide behind the sarcasm and arrogance because you actually DO like the person. So, am I to deduct that since you are being EXTREMELY rude to her, that you might want to sleep with her?" the vampire ended his discussion and Jace choked on his drink, while Maia giggle, covering her mouth with her hand.
Magnus and Alec both looked like they'd won the lottery. "I do not!" Jace protested loudly, so that even Isabelle spared him a confused glance, before going back to talking to Clary. Simon laughed, raising his hands. "Dude, chill, I'm joking. Even I don't believe that, I think there's more of a chance you sleeping with me than her." the vampire said and Jace felt his throat constrict. He gave the 'dynamic duo' a look full of panic and saw that they were about to say something. Probably something that would out Jace.
"I think it's rather rude of you all to assume I'd sleep with just about anyone." he announced, hurt. Alec scoffed and Jace gave his parabatai the 'you're so dead' stare. Alec didn't seem to be bothered. "I mean..." Magnus trailed and Maia looked away. Jace's mouth hung open. "Is that what you all think of me? I'm shocked! I thought we were friends." he pouted, making them all laugh. Simon's eyes crinkled on the sides as he did. Jace watched in awe.
"Well, okay, there's one person you'd never sleep with, besides your siblings of course." Simon said and eyed Magnus, amused. The warlock gave Jace a oneover. "Yeah, same here." he said and Jace looked even more hurt. Alec seemed pleased. "That's right, no one is sleeping with my warlock but me." he stated, rather drunkenly and Magnus snickered. "Your warlock? I like the sound of that." he purred and leaned in to kiss Alec. Jace groaned loudly, accompanied by Maia. "Just go home already, we all know you want to!" she shouted at the pair, who jumped apart. Magnus stood up, waving his hand. "You're all so petty." he stated and with a flourish, took Alec's hand. They said their goodbye's and didn't seem all to unhappy to leave their company. Jace shook his head. "I swear, they are like rabbits." he announced, earning an agreeing sound from both Simon and Maia.
You know what you're doin' to me
You're singin' my songs in the streets, yeah, yeah
Actin' all innocent, please
When I know you're out here thinkin' 'bout it
"Where'd Izzy and red go?" Maia asked suddenly and Jace gave a glance to their right. There was no one there. He tried to hide his smirk. Simon seemed quite confused. "Dunno. Dancing maybe?" he asked and Jace snorted. "Yeah, sure." he said. If Izzy would- that would mean that Clary was willing to cheat on Simon, right? So, she was a bad person, right? Which meant that if Jace would pursue his initial intentions...
Maia seemed very amused by the whole ordeal, but before she could say something, Bat called her from the other end of the bar. She waved at him, all smiled as nodded to the other two as she went to chat with her friend. Simon took another sip of his drink. "I like Clary. I'm just not sure she's what I'm actually looking for." he said, thoughtful. There was a droplet of red on his lower lip. "Well, that depend on what it is you are looking for." Jace replied, instinctively leaning over, running his thumb across Simon's lip and removing the drop of drink. Without thinking at all, he put his thumb in his mouth, tasting the drink. It was sweet, but with a tinge of metallic taste. Only when he lowered his hand and saw the wide eyes of the vampire, did he realize what he had just done.
Then you realize she's right there
And you're at home like, "Damn, she can't compare"
He tried not to groan, his face feeling hot now. He quickly retreated, taking his drink and sipping on it, hoping Simon would not bring it up. The vampire had his head tilted to the side now, examining him. "Well, I think I know. In fact, I'm pretty sure I have eyes on the right person. But it's unclear if they want it." Simon then spoke up again. Jace furrowed his brow. "Well, just dump Clary and ask this person out, then. Easy peasy." the blonde said. He tried to dispel the image of Simon's teeth drawing blood from his own lips. He shifted in his chair, trying to not get turned on. He was getting bored of always pining over Simon, not doing anything about it and still ending up sleeping with someone who would walk out the door the next day. If Simon would break up with Clary, maybe he'd have his window, before he asked whoever this person was out.
"Alright, do you want to go out with me?" Simon said, his voice clear as day. Jace stilled, frozen and stared at him in surprise.
Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
You can hit it in the mornin'
Yeah, yeah, like it's yours
I know it ain't right
But I don't care
Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
"Huh?" he asked, dumbfounded. Simon smirked and rested his head on his hand, his elbow supporting him on the counter. "I asked you out. You're supposed to say 'yes' or 'no'. Preferably the first option." the vampire said and Jace could detect the slightest of hesitance in his voice and eyes. Simon was being serious. "Oh." Jace said, setting his drink down. Then he faked a thoughtful expression.
"Huh, I don't know... Are you paying?" he asked and Simon rolled his eyes. "Of course, I asked you out." he said and Jace nodded. "What about transport?" he asked and Simon smiled. "Picking you up at 6 tomorrow with my van." he said and Jace clicked his tongue. "That van is a death trap and downright horrible to look at." he sneered, making the vampire move his hand over his chest dramatically. "That's rude." he said but then smirked. "I'll borrow Luke's car." he said as a way of compromise and Jace hummed. "Are we dressing up or is this casual?" he asked and Simon blinked. "Semi-casual." he stated. "You'd have to bring me flowers." Jace joked. "Done." Simon said, seriously. "And I'm not putting out on the first date. I have a 'five-date' rule."Jace said, making Simon smirk. "No, you don't." he said and Jace exhaled. "No, I don't." he agreed, observing Simon.
The vampire was still smirking and Jace set his drink down, grabbing him by the collar and smashed their lips together. Simon tasted just like the drink Jace had tried earlier, but more intense. The flavor set his tastebuds alive, the tangy and sweet mixing. Jace ran his tongue along Simon's lower lip and the brunette moaned into the kiss. Jace could feel the fangs against his own lip. He didn't let go of Simon's already crumpled shirt, pulling him as close as possible on the wobbly barstools and their legs were touching again. Jace pulled back and Simon bit his lip, so fast that Jace almost didn't feel it. Almost. He felt the blood when he sucked on his own lower lip. Simon's eyes were many shades darker than before. He let his hand go to his own lips and Jace followed his tongue, sliding across his mouth to taste Jace's blood. He almost moaned at the sight.
With your girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend
With your girlfriend
With your girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend
"Sorry about that. I can't control them, sometimes." Simon said, his voice lower but still audible over the blaring music. Jace tried to get his breathing under control. "Don't be sorry. I liked it." he said, to his own surprise. He usually wouldn't have just out and said it. Simon's eyes grew intense, devouring him with a lustful look. "Oh." he just said, voice hoarse. "Oh, indeed." Jace agreed and he tilted his head to the side.
"You guys want anything?" Maia suddenly appeared, seemingly oblivious to their activities. "Oh, yes." Jace heard Simon mumble and he laughed, even though he felt himself be on the verge of exploding from the sexual tension he was experiencing. "No, thanks, Maia. I think I'm actually headed out." Jace said and Simon have him a glance. Jace smirked at him and Simon's eyes went to Maia. "Yeah, me too. Clary's gone anyway. You mind telling her to call me later? I need to talk to her about something." he told the werewolf and Maia raised an eyebrow, glancing at Jace then. "Did something happen?" she asked, pointing between them.
Jace laughed. "Something always happens, it's me." he said and Maia nodded, smiling. "That's true. Alright, bye guys, see you later." she said and started walking away, but then turned back, as Jace was putting on his jacket. "Oh, and do everything I would do." she winked and the blonde gave her a death stare. He glanced at Simon, who was smirking. Maybe this night wouldn't be so bad after all.
You can say I'm hatin' if you want to
But I only hate on her 'cause I want you
Say I'm trippin' if you feel that
But you without me ain't right
You can call me crazy 'cause I want you
And I never even never fuckin' met you
Say I'm trippin' and it ain't right
But you without me ain't nice
The started to walk, and when they reached the front door, Simon opened it for him. Jace laughed, going out first and felt instantly better, the cool air hitting his face and hopefully calming his body down. They fell into step, walking down the street and Simon's hand brushed against his. He tried not to think about the tingling sensation it produced.
"Wait, so are we going out tomorrow?" Simon asked suddenly and Jace scoffed. "I mean, I never said yes." he stated and Simon gave him a glare. "But you did demand all these ridiculous things from me." he pouted. It was cute. "Yeah, and I'm not done." he said, making the vampire stop. "You're really going to make be work for it, huh?" he asked and Jace laughed, leaning on the wall, his leg supporting him. "Yup." he stated and Simon groaned. "You're going to have to open the doors for me." Jace stated and Simon stepped closer. "Naturally." he answered.
"And You have to ask me first, if you want to hold my hand, not just assume I'm going to agree to it." the blonde went on. Simon's eyes glinted with humor. "Wouldn't dream of it." he replied. Jace felt his heart speed up. "What about after dinner?" he asked and Simon stepped closer again, almost against him. "We go back to my place." he said simply and Jace smirked. "I told you, I'm not putting out." he stated and Simon laughed, leaning in. His breath tickled Jace's neck.
"I think I can change your mind." he said slowly and kissed his skin. Jace felt Simon pressing against him. The vampire's leg went between Jace's, spreading them and brushing against him. The blonde moaned. "Okay, maybe. I'm still not making any promises." he breathed and could feel Simon smiled against his skin
Break up with your girlfriend (with your girlfriend)
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
You can hit it in the mornin'
Yeah, yeah, like it's yours
I know it ain't right
But I don't care
Break up with your girlfriend
Yeah, yeah, 'cause I'm bored
The vampire's fangs were out again and he dragged them across Jace's collarbone, making the blonde shiver. "How about now?" Simon asked and Jace grabbed him, flipping them over so Simon was now with his back against the wall of the building. "Alright, you're pretty convincing. For a 'hearts and flowers' guy." he stated, smirking.
Simon's hands went to his hips and he let his head fall against the wall. "I thought you weren't the type to make the effort for a relationship." Simon stated, his eyes on Jace's mismatched ones. The blonde leaned in, touching Simon's lips briefly. "I could be convinced otherwise." he mused and Simon smirked, pulling him against his body, their lips meeting once again.
