Thirty - in which it's nice to see Simon (AU)

There's no way in hell Jace would've admitted this out loud, but Simon might've just been the most gorgeous human-being on the planet, and that's saying something, considering the fact that Jace usually gave himself that title.

He let the sun warm his arm on the rolled-down window of the car, his eyes on the brunette behind the wheel, who was possibly staring intently at the road. There was no way of telling, because the sunglasses on his nose blocked Jace's view of those deep, brown eyes. He turned sideways a little, to let his hair flow in the wind as he moved his feet up and set them on Simon's lap. The brunette smiled slightly at that and Jace felt his heart ache in his chest. How was it possible to be this- this-... there wasn't a word invented for the way Simon looked.

He had his hair pushed back in a really sexy way, small waves in them because he had just washed them this morning and they weren't completely dry yet. The sunglasses had reflective blue glasses, from which Jace could see the black highway and the passing desert. His dark brown T-shirt hugged his body, the arms holding the wheel were muscled and Jace could see the small veins running alongside the inside of his wrists and arms. He was slightly tanned, more than he had been a month ago, when they left for their 'impromptu roadtrip'. He had a necklace around him, a leather strap with a turquoise, round pendant, that was supposed to be his 'lucky stone', as he put it. And from the collar, peeking out, Jace could see the purple-blue hickey he had given him last night. He shivered just from the thought of it. His eyes went lower to stare at his flat stomach, hidden by the fabric, but the blonde knew every inch - the hard abs underneath as well as the little black tattoo on the right side that was shaped like a half-moon. And the little scar on his lower back, where Simon had cut himself with a broken wire of a fence, when he was 13.

Nice to see you
How you doing
Did you know you're
Really something

Simon was wearing his black skinny jeans; in contrast to the very light attire Jace was wearing, he was almost all dark. Against his tan skin, white would've looked amazing, but Jace liked the dark on him. It suited Simon just the same. Next to Jace's white linen shirt and light-blue jeans, they were like the embodiment of angel and devil. At least, that's what Simon liked to tell him. He called him angel. Jace had never felt the way he did, when Simon called him that. It made his chest ache and he couldn't breathe, the sound so melodious and good, even better when Simon said his name. It filled him with love and adoration, with a sense of gratefulness, because Simon was the only one to see him like that. Pure and angelic, lovable and just good. From the pair of them, Simon was most definitely 'the good one', even though he didn't dress like it. Inside, Jace was the one, who was insecure, running around like a lunatic, searching for something that wasn't there and failed to see the good in himself.

Simon was the one who always cared enough to show people. He always saw the best in them and he was all those other things, too, like the things they write about in the novels. You know, there was this girl and then this guy, and the guy was all funny and hot and cute and always kissed the girl, when he sent her home, but never anything more, because that's how much of a gentleman he was. Simon was like that, only the first time Simon had kissed Jace, he hadn't stopped. Jace still felt his insides clench deliciously as he remembered the first time Simon kissed him - it wasn't just their first kiss.

But he was happy, that they had started out that way. Because he didn't want to wait another second, when it came to Simon. He made the first move, but Jace made the rest. All the other firsts, Jace never wasted a second to make them happen. And Simon seemed to be content with them all.

You make me feel things
I don't believe in
It's all up in my heart
And all up in my spine those chills

Simon set one hand on Jace's ankle and left it there, slowly caressing it with his thumb. Jace smiled again, looking at that perfectly sculpted jaw. It should be illegal to look like that. He was like a disheveled-looking god, he made it work so well. If there was anyone, who could make Jace go weak at the knees with just how they looked or moved, it was Simon. For him, it was always Simon.

"Lost something?" Simon teased him, his lips curling into a half-smile when he was still focused on the road ahead. "Just my innocence." Jace replied swiftly, enjoying their banter. He always did. Simon was the only one who could keep up with him, in that sense. Simon gave a small laugh, but it was still contagious and beautiful. Jace felt the laughter bubbling in his chest too and the corners of his mouth already hurt from smiling so much. "You lost that long before I came around." Simon said back, his hand moving up and down on Jace's leg. The blonde felt chills running down his spine, when he enjoyed Simon's touch. He longed for it, all the time, and he could never get enough. He wondered if that would ever change. He hoped not.

"Hey, no need to be rude." Jace retorted, acting insulted. He pouted at Simon, who still didn't look at him. The only evidence that he was listening, was the smug smirk on his face. "I'm never rude to you, angel. Always telling the truth, you know that." the brunette said with a silky voice and Jace let his head fall back a little, feeling the wind in his hair. He savored Simon's words and his voice.

I'spose someday these roads will reach the sea
It's safe to say they're tailor-made for replaying scenes
But I'm too pensive
To decide what's real
All cause you left me with a heart chock-full of chills

He felt Simon's hand go along his thigh and his throat was suddenly dry. He looked back at the brunette, who seemed very focused on the act of driving. Jace smirked. The little devil knew exactly what he was doing to Jace, all the time. And he also knew that Jace didn't mind. But the blonde suddenly sat up, legs still over Simon. He leaned over to the brunette, his breath hovering over his neck. Simon sucked in a breath when Jace kissed his collarbone. He could see the goosebumps forming on Simon's tan skin and he liked the view. It meant Simon was affected by him and Jace had never felt more alive, when that happened. Simon was his, heart and soul, he always had been.

Even though they hadn't been together for that long yet, he still felt like they matched like two old souls, wandering around, trying to find 'the one', and when they did, it felt like home. That's what Simon was to Jace, home. He could be anywhere in the world, as long as the brunette was right there with him.

In the morning sun
You and I are one
Fingers through my hair
Feel them everywhere

He pulled back a little, letting his hand go to Simon's damp hair and slid through them. They were so soft and cool to the touch, it was like a remedy in this hot weather. Well, Jace wasn't entirely sure if he was hot because of the weather, or because of Simon. He suspected the latter. The things Simon did to him...

He leaned in, inhaling the intoxicating smell on Simon's shampoo. The fresh smell of peppermint and somehow, the salty ocean. His hands glided through the hair gently, caressing them and he let his hand rest a the nape of Simon's neck, while he pressed a kiss onto his jawline. Simon made a small noise. "Jace, I'm trying to drive here." he stated, a little sternly, but his voice told Jace that he didn't mind. He smiled against Simon's skin, letting his teeth graze over it and moved to his collarbone again, hands still holding to brown locks. He moved down to kiss Simon's skin again, this time slightly tugging on his hair as he did so. Simon groaned and his arms strained on the wheel. Jace loved to tease Simon, mainly because he knew that Simon would return the favor later, in a much more sinful way, that made Jace's toes curl with excitement.

Don't know what to think
Am I still dreaming
You're so perfect baby were you made for me

"I can't help it, if you look so irresistible all the time." Jace said against his skin, moving his legs away so he could rest a hand on Simon's thigh. "I really would like to get us there in one piece, you know." Simon replied, his voice a little breathy. Jace watched him speak and moved to push the glasses up to the top of his head. Simon's eyes crinkled as he smiled. Jace tilted his head to the side and Simon gave him a quick glance, his pupils slightly dilated and the brown a darker shade. Jace swallowed. "Huh, suddenly, I don't care about that." he told Simon and kissed the corner of Simon's mouth. The brunette shook his head, laughing. "Jace, stop being impossible." he said with an amused tone. Jace shifted, leaning back to his seat and pouted. "I'm not impossible." he retorted, hurt. Simon shook his head once again, smiling all the while. "Yes, you are, angel. Don't worry, I'm used to it." he said and Jace rolled his eyes, scoffing. "Fine, be like that." he said, putting his hand out the window, gliding it through the air like they did in the movies. The sun was shining so bright, it hurt his eyes and he moved to snatch the glasses from Simon's head. The brunette made a protesting noise.

"Jace, you have your own glasses." he said, slightly annoyed. Jace smiled brightly, setting the glasses on his nose. "I left them in the suitcase accidentally." he simply said, enjoying the shade for his eyes. Simon mumbled something that sounded a lot like 'impossible' and Jace smirked. He loved Simon, but sometimes he needed to have a little fun with him. By that Jace meant that he had to see if Simon really could handle him - all of him. He could be childish sometimes, and annoying and rude. He was all those things to Simon, too, at first. But the brunette had a great way of shutting down his obnoxious comments. Simon was, simply put, the most sarcastic person he had ever met. He was also incredibly sassy, definitely taking third place on that pedestal next to Magnus and Alec.

Nice to see you
How you doing
Did you know you're
Really something

"I love you too, babe." he said lightly, tapping his fingers on the car window. Simon rolled his eyes but then he conceded. He smiled at the road. "I don't love you." he said, trying to sound serious, but failed miserably. Jace poked his side, making Simon laugh. "Stop that!" he shouted, when Jace poked him again. "You do love me, idiot." the blonde insisted and Simon laughed again, his voice making Jace's heart contract with love. "I- don't." he said between gasps, when Jace decided to tickle him. "You are going to crash, if you keep lying like that." Jace announced, not stopping for a second. Simon's face was flushed when he finally gave in. "Fine! I do, I love you!" he exclaimed and Jace stopped, with a victorious expression on his face. "That's right, don't you forget it." he replied and suddenly, Simon's face was soft again. He smiled at Jace, giving him a quick but sweet look. "I could never, angel." he said and Jace felt his neck and cheeks go red. He took the glasses and put them back on Simon's nose, giving him a kiss on the cheek as he did so.

You make me feel things
I don't believe in
It's all up in my heart
And all up in my spine those chills

"I want to make a quick stop." Simon said, pulling up to another dirt road and Jace gave him a look. "It's taking ages already to get to the hotel, and you want to make me wait even longer?" he pouted and Simon laughed. "You and your insatiable hunger for sex." he snorted and Jace rolled his eyes. "Look who's talking." he replied and Simon shook his head. They drove for another 10 minutes when the scenery changed and Jace recognized the smell of the sea that was coming from the open window. He stared at Simon, who pulled up to a bank, a small parking space laid out in front of them. Over the bank, they could see the shining water down below, peaceful and quiet, besides the small waves clashing to the shore down below. They were pretty far up.

"Come on." Simon said, stopping the car and turning off the engine. Jace opened the door and stretched. After a 4 hour drive, it was much needed. He caught Simon staring at him as his shirt rode up his body and Jace smirked. "Like what you see?" he teased and Simon gave him a hot look, licking his lips. "I think you know the answer to that." the brunette replied huskily and Jace felt another shiver run down his spine. He went around the car closer to Simon, but the brunette just stretched out a hand to him. Jace took it with a smile and let Simon guide him towards the edge. There was a bench, painted vivid blue and Jace laughed. "Very cheesy." he said and Simon looked worried for a second. "You think so?" he asked and Jace gave him a weird look. "Yes, but then again, I like it when you do cheesy things for me." he announced then, reassuring Simon, who seemed very relieved.

They sat down on the bench, Simon sprawling his legs out in front of him and Jace moving to place his on Simon's lap again. The brunette put a hand around Jace and the blonde leaned in to him. The sound of the sea retreating and then crashing down on the rocks below was soothing, as was the chilly wind on their skin, while the sun was still blazing in the sky. "We really need to go shopping for shorts." Jace said and Simon chuckled, his chest moving under the blonde's touch. Simon turned towards him a little, putting a hand on his cheek and moving a strand of golden hair from his face.

Hope it works out
In the long run
I think about you and
Then the month's gone

"Whatever you want, Jace. Anything you want." he said and Jace knew he was not talking about going shopping anymore. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you." Jace suddenly said, feeling his heart beat faster. He hadn't planned on saying that out loud, but it didn't matter, because it was true. Hence, why shouldn't he say it? He always spoke his mind around Simon, always told the truth. Simon raised an eyebrow and gave a small smile. "I do, too." he said, shifting suddenly and Jace saw him bite his lip. "You're nervous. Why are you nervous?" he asked immediately and Simon shook his head, staring at the sea for a moment. When he looked back, his cheeks were a slight red. "I know that we have not been together for that long, but I feel like this is the right thing to do." he said and Jace gave him a confused look.

I'll raise the issue in
Tangential love songs
It's all up in my heart
And all up in my spine those chills

Simon reached into his jeans and Jace already knew, what was about to happen. It didn't stop him from almost passing out, though. Simon opened the little box, that had a metallic, wide ring in it, faint lines going around the metal. It looked elegant and gleaming in the sunlight. Jace raised his eyes to Simon and the brunette smiled faintly. "I'm not going to make a big speech. You and I both know, that A. when I start talking, I don't stop, and B. you already know, how much you mean to me. I'm just going to say this - with you, every day is like a breath of fresh air to me, and I don't ever want to not breathe again. So, Jace Herondale, angel, will you marry me?" Simon said, his smile even brighter now and the sun made his eyes glint in a beautiful light brown shade. They were full of love.

Jace felt his heart pound like never before and his eyes were a little blurry. He was never the crying type, but Simon knew how to push his buttons. He let out a shaky breath, trying to form his words. "Simon... Yes. If course I will." he said, voice trembling and feeling very overwhelmed. Simon's face seemed relieved, like he had expected a 'no' and Jace couldn't fathom why. His hands were trembling, as Simon slid the ring onto his finger and he noticed, that Simon's hands were shaking, too. At that, he let out a laugh and placed his forehead to Simon's. "We're you really afraid I was going to say no?" he asked and Simon gave him a nervous smile. "I mean, not really. Well, maybe. But you're just so... perfect. And I was just worried, that maybe I'm moving too-" he was cut off when Jace kissed him forcefully, his legs moving to straddle Simon and the brunette hummed contently.

Those chills

Jace pulled back briefly, only to say "You are an adorable idiot, Simon Lewis, and I love you." and then he place his lips back onto Simon, parting them and letting himself taste the boy. Simon gave a little needy sound, when Jace shifted on his lap and bit Jace's lip, making the blonde smile. He felt himself shivering, from excitement, anticipation, from love and from happiness. They were all such overwhelming emotions, but when Simon put his hands on his hips, mumbling an 'I love you' against his lips, nothing really mattered, but the sound of their quickening breaths mingling and their hearts beating frantically, when their lips moved against each other.

Ah, those chills
