Fourteen - in which Jace finds it hard to be lonely (AU)
"Throw me a water, Jace!" Alec yelled from the couch. Jace grabbed the bottle from the fridge, taking a bowl of chips with him and started towards the living room, only to stop in his tracks when he noticed Simon balancing a sword on his palm. "Look, I could join the circus!" he exclaimed, moving around, the sword dangerously swaying.
"Lewis, that's an antique! Put it down!" he groaned. Simon put the sword back on the wall where it came from. "You're an antique." he mumbled. Jace threw the bottle to Alec, who caught it and glared at Simon. "I heard that." he said, setting the bowl on the table. Simon slid next to him, their bodies squished together. "Yeah, I said what I said." he announced and Jace hit his shoulder, hard. Simon winced, but Magnus laughed. "I'm the eldest here, by the way." he said and Alec rolled his eyes. "Not the wisest, though." he replied. He shouted when Magnus pushed him off the couch. Simon roared with laughter.
"Was that necessary?" Alec groaned, but when Magnus glared at him, he quickly got up. "I'm sorry, babe." he said, kissing Magnus' cheek. The older boy rolled his eyes but there was a small smile on his lips. "You're forgiven. But you don't get cuddles tonight." he answered, kissing Alec's cheek as well. Alec pouted, but Jace made a noise. "Can we just watch this movie? The sooner it's over the sooner I can go to sleep." he said, pressing play on "The Conjuring". Simon took a pillow, laid it on Jace's lap and put his head down, making the blonde blush. He didn't see it however, his eyes on the screen when he reached for the chips. "I bet Jace will scream every time there is a jumpscare" he said thoughtfully. Jace grunted but Magnus nodded his head. "An Alexander will probably cover his eyes for the better part of the movie." he laughed, earning a glare from Alec.
30 minutes into the movie, Jace was jumping up from the couch, yelling "Simon, you idiot!" and Alec gave a loud scream, when Simon clapped his hands behind their back. Magnus roared with laughter, falling from the couch, while Alec held his hand to his heart, his face full of anguish and anger at the same time, while Jace was trying to smother Simon with a pillow.
Simon gasped for air when Jace yelled "Die, you inconsiderate bastard!". He shoved Jace, making him fall on the floor where Alec was still staring at Magnus, who wiped the tears from his eyes. "You don't mean that, baby. You love me. "Simon said matter of factly. Jace flipped him the finger, but he felt his cheeks go a slight pink. He quickly stood up and helped his brother up as well. Alec sat on the other edge of the couch, dragging Jace down next to him. "Oh, Alexander, come on! It was funny!" Magnus pleaded, pouting and making puppy eyes at Alec, who didn't budge. "We're fine all the way here, away from people who think it's funny to scare the living shit out of other people." Alec said, pressing play on the remote.
After Alec had put a blanket over his head and Jace had grabbed onto his arm so hard that Alec made a noise, the movie was finally over. They were both pale and Jace whipped his head around, looking at the dark kitchen. "Did you hear that?" he asked, his voice suspicious. Alec followed his gaze, but Simon laughed. "You two are unbelievable." he said, then glanced at his wrist watch. "Alright, losers. I have to get going. Jace, see you tomorrow? If you're not too scared to come out after the dark." he smirked, but Jace stayed immobile on the couch. "You're seriously all going to leave me alone, in this empty apartment? What if there's an axe murderer in my closet or something?" the blonde scowled at them. Alec stood up and went to Magnus, who took his hand and smiled at Jace. "Sorry, Jace, I have my own scaredycat to take care of." he replied, and Alec rolled his eyes, but he held Magnus' hand way too tightly.
Jace scoffed, but stood up to walk them to the door. Magnus and Alec went first and Simon tried to trip Jace, making the blonde grab him and they wrestled, until Alec rolled his eyes and waved at Simon. "Hello? Will you two stop acting like children and let's go? We're your ride, Simon." he said tiredly. Magnus winked at Jace, who let go of Simon immediately and blushed for the second time. Simon, oblivious to this, patted Jace on the shoulder and smiled. "See you tomorrow, Jace." he said and went after the other two. Jace shut the door and sighed when he slumped against it. He let his hand go over his face and he tiredly looked around the room. He would clean up tomorrow.
When he went to the bedroom, he immediately plopped down on the bed. His mind was making circles around this evening, and Jace knew what was coming next. His stupid brain started overthinking again, going into overdrive. All the time's Simon called him "baby" or "babe" replayed in his mind. The way he straddled him when he was trying to push the pillow to his face. The way his hands felt around him when they fooled around like two kids. Jace groaned loudly. Why did it have to be so difficult?
Don't blame me for fallin'
I was just a little boy
Don't blame the drunk caller
Wasn't ready for it all
You can't blame me, darling
Not even a little bit
He recalled the fatal night for the hundredth time, even if it had been almost a year ago now. He had been black out drunk and called Simon. He had come and picked him up. And Jace made the worst possible move he could've done. Simon and he had been best friends for almost 5 years then.
"Come on, Jace, I'm gonna need your help at least a little." Simon said, trying to drag him up the stairs to the blonde's apartment. Jace only giggled, poking Simon's cheek. "Your skin is extremely soft." he said, smiling goofily. Simon rolled his eyes, finally getting inside and placing Jace on the couch. What followed was Jace trying to get up, Simon pushing him down, Jace knocking over a vase and then knocking over the water glass Simon brought him, Simon trying to remove his clothes so he can go to bed, Jace laughing at this and faking embarrassment ('You can't see me naked!") and finally, Jace pulling Simon by his arm, down to him and his lips went straight to the brunette's soft ones.
Simon was surprised at first. He didn't think Jace was gay. Jace's mouth moved against his but Simon pulled away, realizing how drunk the blonde actually was. As soon as Simon had said "Jace, I don't think...", the blonde stood up and staggered to the bathroom, where Simon could hear him throwing up. After rolling his eyes, he went to him, rubbing his back and although Jace tried to send him away, he stayed the night, watching over him. When Jace found Simon in his bed the next morning, he panicked. Simon calmed him down.
"Nothing happened, Jace." he said. Jace looked at him, and then hid his face in his hands. "I'm sorry, Si. I'm never drinking again." he replied and Simon laughed. "No worries babe." he said. That was the first time he called him that. Jace liked the petname. Even thought they stayed just friends and Simon never brought it up again. But it ate Jace up, because he knew what actually happened, even when they both pretended that it was forgotten.
Jace stood up from the bed, removing his clothes and headed to the bathroom, to brush his teeth. He frowned, looking at the mirror. He missed his chance with Simon and now he was paying the price, in a way. Every time they were together, he felt butterflies in his stomach. And he was jealous of the redhead Simon looked at with adoring eyes. It wasn't fair. And yet it was. He thought of the moment he should've said something, yet he didn't.
I was away
And I'm just an arrogant son of a bitch
Who can't admit when he's sorry
He had been leaving on a plane, to France. His lawfirm sent him on an internship there. He could've said no. But the truth was, he was escaping Simon, so he didn't have to deal with his own feelings.
"So...you're leaving. Just like that?" Simon asked, his voice not betraying any emotion but his eyes were sad. Magnus, Alec and Izzy were in the backround, bickering about something. The wind in the airport was deafening. Jace's company offered to fly him in a private jet, to which he didn't object. He hated flying, so he might as well make the best of it. "It's a great opportunity. And it's only for like a month." Jace answered. Simon seemed to scowl at him. His eyes seemed to want to ask something and Jace was dreading it. He didn't want questions. "What, you going to miss me?" he laughed, bumping Simon's shoulder playfully. The brunette rolled his eyes. "I just thought..." he started, but his words faded away. Jace shuffled uncomfortably. Simon's eyes searched his, but it was like they were too heated for Jace to handle, so he pulled his gaze onto the ground. He heard Simon sigh.
"Alright. I guess I'll see you, then." he said, his tone cold. Jace raised his head. "Simon..." he started, not knowing where the sentence was going to end, or how even. But the brunette conjured a fake smile, that Jace could see right through, and hugged him. Jace didn't feel the usual warmth or the love he put into it. It was like he was a stranger. "Have a safe trip." Simon said and with that, he turned and walked away. The cold wind pinched Jace's skin when he stood there, not knowing what to do. A part of him wanted to run after the retreating boy, but he waved at the other three and quickly made his way onto the jet. He was a coward.
Jace realized he had been flossing for a good 10 minutes now. He threw the floss away and went to the bedroom, climbing under the covers. Tomorrow he had to meet up with Simon, because he needed a birthday gift for Clary, his girlfriend. They had met when Jace was away. And he knew he had no one else to blame but himself, but he was still so mad, when he first met her. But for Simon, he'd do anything. So he played it cool and friendly. He was pretty sure the girl liked him. She kept texting him about Simon. Jace rolled his eyes. Like he didn't already know every little thing about him.
But Simon had been so nice to him ever since he got back. And he had started calling him petnames,as if daunting him. 'Come closer, see what happens'. He got a girlfriend, and Jace was sure that it wasn't to make him jealous. No, Simon actually cared for her. But with Jace, he was a whole other person. And other's had noticed this.
"Give me that!" Simon yelled, reaching for the controller, while Jace stood on the couch, holding it out of his reach and was laughing. "Come and get it!" he shouted, pushing random buttons, probably making Simon lose his game. Isabelle glared at them from the kitchen. "Boys." she scoffed, looking back at the cookies in the oven. They were not burnt yet so that was a good sign. Jace squealed with laughter when Simon started tickling him. He gasped for air, crumbling down and the controller falling from his hand. Simon kept tickling him, now on top of Jace and Jace's face was flushed. "AH- Simon stop! I can- I can't - BREATHE!" Jace shouted between breaths.
Simon only laughed his evil laugh and kept at it, leaning in closer. Jace caught his hands and Simon stopped, his smile still on his face. Jace stared at him, the controller forgotten on the floor and Simon stared back. His smile faltered for a minute, when his gaze went to Jace's lips, but the blonde noticed. Their daze was broken when there was a loud crash in the kitchen. Simon jumped, nearly falling off and Jace stood up quickly, ignoring the warm feeling in his belly.
"Isabelle?" he inquired and saw the girl standing above the fallen cookies. Her eyebrows were raised as she narrowed her eyes at Jace and said sarcastically "Oops." Jace gave her a glare but went to clean it up. After Simon had left with a "Bye, Iz! Bye, babe!" Isabelle sat Jace down. Simon never called Jace these petnames when Clary was around.
"He has a girlfriend." she started. Jace shrugged his shoulders, taking a bite out of the cookie and nearly chipping his tooth. "Yeah, I noticed." he answered, throwing away the cookie into the trash bin. Isabelle glared at him. "Have you? 'Cause you're not acting like it. You're drooling all over him and I think he's encouraging you and that's confusing you in turn." she said, throwing the whole plate into the trash. She put her hands on her hips. Jace rolled his eyes. "Jace, I just don't want you to get your hopes up. He's just being friendly." Isabelle said, with a sad look. Jace scoffed and rose, pating her shoulder. "Yes, we're best friends. So stop worrying. I'm fine, we're fine." he said.
But was he fine? The more he hung out with Simon, the more Jace realized he didn't want to be without him. Was that what all best friends felt? Or was that something more? He groaned, thinking about tomorrow. Simon wanted to have a beer after they had done the shopping. Alcohol and him didn't go together, especially around Simon. Every time he was scared that something might slip. He just wished Simon didn't act so perfect around him, making it hard to not see him as something else than a friend.
Don't call me "baby" again
You got your reasons
I know that you're tryna be friends
I know you mean it
But don't call me "baby" again
It's hard for me to go home
Be so lonely
Jace felt alone in his bed all the time. Sure, Simon had stayed over multiple times in the past. But the last year, especially the last 6 months, he hadn't . Jace didn't suggest it and Simon didn't ask. Jace was afraid that if he did allow him to stay, he would do something crazy, like confess his undying love.
Jace breathed out loudly. He didn't love Simon like that. It just hurt when he left and it made his day when he came through the doors. And he liked when Simon fooled around with him, like they were brothers. And he liked how Simon always lit up when Jace laughed at his stupid jokes. And he liked how Simon sometimes texted him in the middle of the night, to ask if he'd come and go to the McDonalds drive through with him. Jace mostly liked how Simon was so free with him. He didn't care about the way he acted or laughed or what he said. Jace was the same with him. They had known each other for so long.
He shut his eyes, trying to sleep. "You don't mean that, baby. You love me.". Simon's words echoed in his mind. He pushed his face into the pillows. He wished Simon didn't call him that. But then again, he wished it with every fiber of his being. But he knew Simon was just trying to be his friend. After everything, why would he want more?
***
The next day, Jace put on his black ripped jeans he had bought last week. He put on his white T-shirt and his black leather jacket. He couldn't resist the combat boots that Simon had once claimed to be 'hot and dangerous' (insert joke about Kesha's song here). He styled his blonde hair and looked himself over in the mirror. He scolded himself. It's just Simon. Stop trying to impress him.
Stepping out of his car, he pushed his sunglasses onto his nose. The day was beautiful and bright, but not as bright as the brunette, who was leaning on the wall of the shopping mall they were to be going into. He was wearing a light pink T-shirt that clung to his body and blue skinny jeans. His vans were white, too white to look at in the sunlight. He was also wearing sunglasses and his varsity jacket was flung onto his back, held with one finger. Simon strode to him, smiling brightly. "You made it. The axe murderer didn't get you? I thought I sent the right address..." he said, scrunching up his nose as if he was thinking what could've gone wrong, and Jace shoved him. Simon laughed, flinging his arm around Jace's shoulders. "Come on, pretty boy. Let's find that present for my very complex and indecisive girlfriend." he said and Jace tried to ignore the knot in his stomach, when Simon touched him.
They combed through jewelry stores first, but nothing caught Simon's eye. "What about this?" Jace finally asked. They were at a store that sold almost everything, from bracelets and rings to bongs and voodoo dolls. He held up two small figurines. They were elephants, their trunks intertwined. They looked to be made out of porcelain and they looked fragile. Simon whistled. "That's cute!" he said, examining them, propping his glasses onto his head. Jace nodded and leaned onto a shelf. "Elephants are supposed to symbolize good luck in the Feng Shui or something." Jace said lightly, eyeing the way Simon got excited.
"Yeah? I could use some of that right about now." he said, clearly not noticing what came out of his mouth. Jace furrowed his eyebrows. "Simon, is everything okay?" he asked gently, placing his hand on Simon's, that were still holding the figurines. Simon looked up, his face now shy. "It's nothing. It's about Clary, but you wouldn't want to hear about it." he said, brushing it off. Before Jace could say anything, he went to the cashier. Once outside, Jace and Simon got into the car, and Jace locked the doors. Simon eyed him and asked playfully "Is this where you say you're actually a murderer and ravish me before you kill me?" Jace rolled his eyes, ignoring the slight blush on his cheeks. "Ravish? Really, Lewis?" he sighed. He then turned fully to Simon. "Come on, something's up. You're not leaving, until you spill." Jace said, determined.
Simon clearly didn't want to talk, but Jace glared at him with a warning in his eyes. Simon put down the little bag containing the elephants and sighed. "Clary is great. She's super. But I think she likes someone else. Like, more than me." he started. Jace tensed. Whenever Simon talked of Clary, he couldn't help but feel...jealous.
I just hope you see me
In a little better light
Do you think it's easy
Being of the jealous kind?
Simon fidgeted with his fingers. "I think it's someone I know. Actually, I know it is." he said, his voice a little shaky, and he was now twisting his hands. Jace breathed out and put his hands on Simon's, whose eyes widened a bit. "Stop that. Why do you think she likes someone else?" Jace asked, ignoring the warm, tingling feeling that was eminating from Simon's fingertips. Simon's eyes were on his hands when he spoke again. "It's um. I have noticed her looking at this person. And she speaks of him a lot. Like, a lot. Asking questions and so on." he stammered, now looking uncomfortable. Jace looked confused. "Wait, so you know who it is? If it's Alec, I'll die of laughter." he said, trying to lighten the mood. Simon shook his head, giving a strangled laugh. "Nope, it's not Alec." he said simply.
"Then who..." Jace said but stopped when Simon's eyes found his and he saw the pained look in them. Jace removed his hand from Simon's and inhaled sharply. Oh. Is that why Clary had been texting him?
"Simon, I- I don't, um. That's messed up. I don't even like her in that way." Jace said, his voice shaky. It was ironic really. He liked Simon, not Clary.
Wait, what?
"I know. I mean, I hope that's true. But it's weird. And I thought if I give her this gift, she'll maybe, I don't know, think of me when she sees it or something." Simon said, his voice now pained. Jace couldn't help but feel disappointed. He had hoped that maybe Simon would...
"Look, I have no intention of having any kind of relationship with her besides friends, and that's for your sake. I don't really like her anyways." Jace said. Then he clamped his hand onto his mouth. Simon had an amused expression. "You don't like Clary?" he asked. Jace shook his head. "I didn't mean to insult you or anything..." he tried saying but to his surprise, Simon laughed. "You're funny, Jace. Come on, let's get to that pub, it's already 5. I'm starving." he said, tossing the bag onto the back seat. Jace breathed out and started the car. This was weird.
All the way to the pub, he kept glancing at Simon. He seemed careless now, a smile playing on his lips. Simon had this thing that he did all the time. He chewed on his lower lip. And Jace caught him doing it yet again, and it sent shivers down his spine. He remembered the kiss they had shared so long ago. He might've been drunk, but he recalled Simon's lips all too well against his. They were sweet and hot on his and Jace wished he would've bitten his lip when he had the chance...He shook his head, staring back at the road. Get a grip, man.
'Cause I miss the shape of your lips
Your wit
It's just a trick
And this is it, so I'm sorry
They pulled up to the pub and walked in, Simon whistling a tune. Once they sat down, a little young woman with blonde hair tied into a ponytail and a blue short dress made her way to them. "Hey, welcome! What can I get you two?" she asked in a cheerful voice, eyeing them. Simon ordered two beers, before Jace could open his mouth. "One dark and one light please, a lime in the light beer, too." he said smoothly. Jace eyed him. He always drank his beer that way, so it wasn't exactly rocket science to know what to order for him. Still, his heart warmed when Simon remembered how he drank it. The girl scribbled it down and then said "I'll be back in a bit!", she actually winked at Jace and twirled her hair between her fingers. Then she left. Simon rolled his eyes.
"We can never go anywhere without people making googly eyes at you." he grumbled, almost looking annoyed. Jace's heart jumped. "Oh, don't pout, you've had your fair share of winks and phone numbers from waitresses." he calmly said, smiling at the brunette. Simon's eyes squinted at him. "Was that sarcasm?" he asked, but Jace only laughed. The girl came back, and Jace made the extra effort to see her name on the tag. When they ordered their food, Jace smiled brightly at her, making the girl blush. "Thank you, Hayley." he said sweetly. The girl fumbled with the menus and smiled back brightly. When she left, Simon scoffed. "Don't give the poor thing a heart attack." he said, this time definitely annoyed. Jace raised an eyebrow. "Jealous, babe?" he asked, emphasizing the petname Simon had given him. This got Simon's attention, he quickly looked up at Jace and the blonde saw a little shade of red on his neck. Jace could almost squeal in delight.
Simon leaned back, playing it cool and twirled the glass in his hand. "What if I am?" he asked smoothly, making Jace almost choke on his sip of beer.
Don't call me "baby" again
You got your reasons
I know that you're tryna be friends
I know you mean it
But don't call me "baby" again
It's hard for me to go home
Be so lonely
He was saved from answering when Hayley made her way back to them, with the food. She placed them down and smiled at them both. "Here you go! Let me know if there's anything else you need." she said, emphasizing the word 'anything' and glanced at Jace. The blonde almost rolled his eyes but smiled and thanked her instead. Simon thanked her, too, although his tone was much colder. Jace snickered at that. Simon hit his foot under the table and Jace gave an 'ow!'. "What was that for?" he asked, but Simon shrugged and started eating.
To be so lonely
To be so
To be so lonely
To be so lonely
To be so
To be so lonely
After they were finished, they left the pub, but not after Hayley had given her number to Jace, batting her eyelashes like crazy. Simon pushed Jace out of there so fast, Jace barely had time to say goodbye. He laughed. "What's the rush?" Jace asked, but Simon rolled his eyes. "This is bros night out, not picking up girls night out." he said, annoyed. Jace raised an eyebrow but ignored, driving them back to his place. They left the car there and went to the bar just a few minutes walk from Jace's.
"I mean, I just don't get it. I'm way nicer than you!" Simon exclaimed, after the second shot of tequila. Jace made a face and bit down on the lemon. He coughed and pointed at Simon. "Hey! I'm nice." he said, waving his hand around to get the salt off. Simon scoffed. "You're the definition of a bad boy. I thought Clary actually liked the hot, nerdy thing going on here." he pointed to himself, giving a small hiccup. Jace handed him the water glass. "Then again, maybe I'm just nerdy." Simon continued, gulping the water and ordering two more shots. Jace shook his head, amused. "Nope, you are hot. And you can be a bad boy, if you want to. Come on, don't beat yourself up." he said, taking the shotglasses and handing one to Simon.
"You think I'm hot, babe?" Simon asked with a raised eyebrow and a cocky smile. Jace rolled his eyes. He clinked their glasses together. "Don't even start, Lewis." he said, chugging the drink. Simon did the same and exhaled, scrunching up his nose. "I think that's enough for us. I'll walk you home?" Jace asked, standing up and barely staggering. He had a great tolerance. Simon, however, did not. He almost fell from the stool. Jace caught him just the right time. "On second thought, maybe you should stay on my couch." Jace said, trying to hold him up. Simon laughed. "There's no way I'm sleeping on the couch, baby." he slurred. Jace made a noise.
And I'm just an arrogant son of a bitch
Who can't admit when he's sorry
"Why didn't you say anything?" Simon asked, when he was sprawled on Jace's bed in his clothes, much to the blonde's dismay. Simon seemed pretty drunk, but his word were clear enough that Jace couldn't ignore he had heard them. He sat on the edge of the bed and Simon went on his elbows, to look at him. "When?" Jace asked, knowing full well, when. Simon exhaled angrily. He sat up and looked straight into his eyes.
"You know when, Jace." he replied. Jace looked up at the ceiling. "Simon, we shouldn't be having this conversation." he said. The brunette scoffed and shot daggers at him. "Why? Because you want to ignore it? Just like you ignored it then?" he asked angrily. Jace looked over at him, noticing Simon's flushed face. "No, Simon, I- You are not sober." Jace tried, but Simon hopped off the bed, now pacing. He laughed unhappily.
"Right. That's another excuse. Well, I'm not leaving until we talk." Simon said, sternly. Jace felt like he might explode, but kept himself calm. Breathe, he said to himself. "Simon, there's nothing to talk about." he carefully said. Simon threw his hands up exasperatedly. Jace could see him getting worked up. "So you kissed me, then ran away and we won't ever speak of it again?" he half-shouted. Jace lost it.
He didn't notice he was also standing, glaring at Simon, who took a step back. "What do you want me to say, Simon? That I started having feelings for my best friend? That I kissed him and I actually wanted to do it? That I got scared because I thought I was falling for him, and I ended up doing it anyway, even though I ran away? Yes, I was a coward, but even so, you could've waited, but you found Clary, so none of this matters now!" he shouted, not even realizing his voice was dangerously loud.
Don't call me "baby" again
You got your reasons
I know that you're tryna be friends
I know you mean it
But don't call me "baby" again
It's hard for me to go home
And be so lonely
To be so lonely
Simon's face softened and he looked down on the ground. "I thought you didn't want me like that. You didn't say anything so I let it go." he said quietly. Jace breathed out and plopped back down on the bed, putting his hands onto his face, rubbing his eyes tiredly. "It's fine. We're good. It's in the past." he said, trying to sound convincing but even to his own ears, it felt like lying. He felt the bed dip when Simon sat down next to him. He felt Simon's hand on his knee. "Jace, did you really mean it?" he asked and Jace looked up at him.
Simon's eyes were full of hope and he was surprised to see it there. He had been hung up on Simon for so long, he didn't even consider that maybe, just maybe, Simon felt the same. But then... "Why did you look so pained when you told me Clary liked me? You love her, don't you?" he asked, instead of answering, and his voice sounded accusing. Simon rolled his eyes. "Dumbass, I was like that because I liked you. I didn't want you to be with her because I wanted to be with you. But since you never made a move, I figured I'd just..." he stammered, not knowing what to say and Jace gave a small laugh. "So, if you can't have me, no one can?" Jace stated dryly. Simon shook his head. "I've never done anything so dumb in my life." he finally said. Jace laughed sincerely now. "That makes two of us." he replied.
The room was dimly lit by the night light but Jace could still see Simon's face in the soft glow, and his features seemed sad. "Simon, I'm sorry." he finally said. Simon sighed and put a hand on his cheek. "Me, too." he replied. They stayed like that until Simon spoke again. "Jace...you didn't answer." he said, uncertain. Jace felt his face go red but it was now or never. And he couldn't deal with the 'never'. "Yes, of course I did. Simon, I fell in love with you." he said in a rush, looking down at the ground.
He felt Simon's fingertips on his chin, making him look at his face and saw that Simon was smiling softly. "Me too, babe. Me too." he replied, his voice quiet in the bedroom, where after the shouting, they could hear a needle drop on the carpet. When Simon leaned closer, Jace closed his eyes, hoping he never had to fall asleep alone again.
To be so
To be so lonely
To be so lonely
To be so
To be so lonely
