Forty - in which Jace needs Simon to save him (SH)
A/N: I took some elements from the show Supernatural in order to make this oneshot, mainly bc I'm pretty sure Genies in Shadowhunters are completely different things then they were in Supernatural, and so I kind of used that and put some elements of my own in there. Anywhooo, enough about that, enjoy. xx
Also, shoutout to @God_in_a_tortilla, who also loves Queen!!!!

"Okay, okay, let's just all calm down. Put the blades away, please. And magic. And fangs and claws." Alec said, his voice demanding but yet soothing, eyes alight with fury as well as fear, muscles tense. Simon could see his despair as much as he felt it. He tried calming himself, stilling his body and staring at the blonde, whose eyes were still the same mismatched ones as always, albeit tired and lonely.
"I can't really 'put my magic away', Alec. That's like asking me to give up glitter. It's always there." Magnus stated rather calmly, but the light on his fingertips died, cat-eyes disappearing as he calmed himself, thanks to the subtle touch from his boyfriend on his lower back. Alec's mouth twitched and Simon almost understood the feeling. The situation was ridiculous. Dire, dangerous, absurd, but ridiculous.
Clary's eyes were full of suspicion as she lowered her blade a little, but not completely. Simon could understand that as well, for the cut on her cheek was the pure evidence that the blonde shadowhunter was not entirely himself. At least, that was what Clary insisted. Isabelle agreed, for she was there when Jace, out of the blue, decided to attack them the redhead, while out on a hunt. Simon had asked what had happened. Clary couldn't say, only that 'it wasn't him, but at the same time, it was'.
Simon eyed Jace, who was in the middle of the room, seraph blades raised. His eyes darted between the people around him, lastly landing on Simon. He smiled and Simon felt hope rising in his chest. This was Jace, his Jace. He would've known - he did know. "Listen, it's me, okay? I mean, I get you might want to kill me - can't blame you - but at least form a line?" Jace said, the familiar arrogance and amusement shining through his tired voice. He seemed exhausted to Simon's eyes. "Can I go first?" Magnus asked and Simon glared at him. "What? I've never really had an immense caring towards him." the warlock shrugged and Jace barked a laugh. "The feeling's mutual." he offered and Magnus tilted his head.
"The Jace we know wouldn't have attacked us. So something happened. You wandered off while we were on a hunt and when you came back, you flipped." Clary stated, her voice terse. She wasn't being mean, but calculating. Simon knew Clary loved Jace, just as she loved Alec or Magnus or Izzy, like family. So, she wouldn't be saying this if it weren't true. He glanced back at Jace. "Maybe a demon possessed him?" Maia offered, observing her claws. Her green eyes shone in the dim lighting of Magnus's loft. Once again, they had managed to ruin one of Alec and Magnus's romantic dinners. Maybe that was the reason the warlock was so eager to blast Jace with his magic.
"But a classic demon possession, we would notice. We would know. He wouldn't be talking to us like this, like he is himself. There are no signs. He didn't react to the exorcism chant." Alec said, thoughtful now. Magnus snapped his fingers, chaining Jace's wrists to the floor, while he still stood. The blonde arched an eyebrow. "Hold on, when did you chant?" he asked, not bothering to acknowledge the chains. "I'm a man of many talents. Chanting, while trying to determine why a bunch of kids once again have interrupted my alone time with my boyfriend, is one of them." the warlock said, unimpressed. Jace laughed, eyes going back to Simon.
"I don't remember attacking Clary." he mused and Alec's eyes narrowed. "If he doesn't remember, then-" he started, but Jace cut in. "I don't remember, but I do remember it being the other way around." he said. There was silence as all eyes turned to Clary. She seemed shocked to the core. "I- what?" she asked, her voice squeaky. "Clary is not lying, she didn't attack anyone." Isabelle immediately said but Jace gave her a look of confusion. "Isabelle, you weren't even there. You came after we were both lying on the ground, remember?" he asked and Simon was more confused by the minute.
He eyed the blonde, whose clothes were rattled, covered in demon ichor and eyes blazing with fire. He was breathing heavily, arms straining against the chains. "Simon." Jace said and it was like a secret, that he wanted only the vampire to hear. "Simon, you believe me, don't you?" he asked and the vampire's jaw clenched as he observed the scene in front of him.
It started off so well
They said we made a perfect pair
I clothed myself in your glory and your love
How I loved you
How I cried
"Let me get this straight." Magnus said, holding up his hand. It sparked with blue magic and Simon realized, Magnus was pretty pissed. Justified, he thought. "You three," he pointed at Jace, Isabelle and Clary "were out hunting. Demons attacked, multiple, and you were separated. Isabelle was busy with demons, while Clary shouted for help, resulting in the blondie to run to her rescue. Something happened, the next thing Clary sees is Jace attacking her with a knife. She tried to block it, almost successfully, if not for the cut on her cheek, but then you felt a force, like magic?" Magnus looked at Clary, looking for confirmation and she nodded. "It was like magic, or something, pushing him off me and we both landed on the pavement." she said and Magnus hummed. "And then, you both got up, Jace seemingly normal, not understanding what was going on, and you decided to call his boyfriend and make your way to the one place you knew you wouldn't be wanted tonight." Magnus ended on a threatening note.
"Magnus, we can have multiple dinners. This was important." Alec said, weakly. Magnus shot him a glare. "Our dinner is not important? You are definitely sleeping on the couch tonight." the warlock snapped and Alec seemed wounded. "I didn't say it's not important." he tried, but Maia snorted. "Hello? Demonic possession in hand?" she waved towards Jace, who sighed. "I'm not possessed. Don't you think I would know? Like I said, Clary was the one who attacked me." he replied and Simon stared back at Clary again.
He had known her forever, and the look she was sporting was truthful and honest - she had no idea what he was talking about. "Something is definitely messing with your heads." Magnus said, snapping his fingers, making a martini appear in his hand. He sipped it, looking bored.
"How can we make sure?" Simon asked, edging closer to Jace. The blonde gave him a smile. "You could come here and kiss me. If I try to kill you, I'm possessed." he offered nonchalantly and Simon would've blushed if he wasn't a vampire. "Wow." Maia said, rolling her eyes. Magnus didn't seem pleased. "There will be no canoodling in my living room, except for me." he stated rather loudly. "Canoodling?" Clary echoed, seemingly puzzled and Magnus gave an exasperated sigh, throwing his hands up, making his martini spill. Alec's stare made Clary's mouth go into a thin line, falling silent.
"Alright, make sure he doesn't go anywhere and I'll get started on the pentagram. If there's a demon in him, he'd have to show himself once in the pentagram." Magnus said, annoyed now and Alec spared him a glance. Simon saw the look in his eyes and how he leaned towards his boyfriend - he looked away, just in case. "This is stupid! I am not possessed!" Jace protested, but Magnus snapped his fingers, the blue fire emitting from them in an angry flare. "Keep talking and wasting my night away, and I'll leave the thing inside you to use you as a meat suit." Magnus growled and with a flourish, he turned on his heels, stalking to his office, probably to get some spell book. Simon gave Alec a questioning look. "We had a fight, right before you came in." he sighed, looking after the warlock, who's long, suit jacket flapped angrily behind him.
"Really? Why?" Isabelle questioned and Alec rolled his eyes. "It doesn't matter right now. Jace is possessed." he said and the blonde scoffed. "I object to being used as an excuse to not talk about your problems involving your magnificent boyfriend." he retorted and Simon raised an eyebrow. "Magnificent?" he asked and just then, Magnus was back, holding an exceptionally heavy book. He glanced at the shadowhunter. "No amount of compliments will make me not exorcise you, Jace." he stated and Jace's seemingly deflated. "Worth a shot." he said and then, to everyone's surprise, he tugged on the chains, hard. They broke, like shattering glass or a thread held under too much pressure.
The years of care and loyalty
Were nothing but a sham it seems
The years belie we lived a lie
I love you till I die
Isabelle shouted, but before anyone could react, Jace had jumped, heading for Magnus, his blades raised. There was a blinding blue light and a shock wave made them all fall backwards. Simon scrambled to his feet, ears ringing and saw Jace lying on the floor, seemingly unconscious. Magnus was standing, his cat-eyes gleaming, hands stretched and the crackling blue fire around him like a cocoon. The power emitting from him made Simon shiver slightly. "What in the Angel-" Alec said and Simon noticed he had his blades out and he was half-way covering Magnus, shielding him. Simon thought it was admirable how Alec was always ready to protect Magnus, even from his own parabatai. The warlock dusted off his jacket, the blue light dying down once again, but his eyes stayed yellow. "I saw his eyes. Black, no pupils or white, nothing. He's possessed. I just don't get what kind of demon could do that - resist the Latin chants..." Magnus mumbled and Alec was there, hand going onto his chest. "Are you alright?" he asked, gently and Simon turned away once again, not wanting to interrupt.
Instead, he went towards Jace. He was lying still, his hair a mess but the look on his face was far from peaceful. He looked like he was in pain, his eyebrows furrowed and his mouth slightly agape. "Magnus?" he said, his hand going to Jace's cheek. It was burning. The warlock slid towards him, gracefully kneeling next to the vampire. "Huh, so he is hot." he said, jokingly, but stopped as Simon gave him a glare. "I'll draw the pentagram, it won't take long. Then we can finally see what this thing is." the warlock offered and Simon nodded. "I'll move him to the couch until then." he said and it was Magnus's turn to nod. When Simon put his hands around Jace, Magnus stopped him for a moment. He snapped his fingers, binding both Jace's hands and legs, the chains glowing with magic this time. "He shouldn't be able to break those." he said and Simon nodded, again.
He picked the shadowhunter up, bridal style, and moved towards the couch. He didn't bother to look at the girls who were eyeing them, as Simon set Jace down gently. He brushed a blonde lock from his forehead, leaning over him. No-one really knew they were dating - they suspected, even though the pair didn't exactly hide it. They just never showed much affection publicly. It had only been a month, but Simon felt affection like he had never before. That's why, when he leaned over Jace's body, he pressed a kiss on his cheek. "It's going to be fine, angel." he whispered and then he heard a cough. Reluctantly he looked up, to see Isabelle standing, arms crossed. "So, are you two that serious now?" she asked and Simon rolled his eyes, getting up.
"That serious? When was I ever not serious about Jace?" he asked, glaring and Isabelle's hands fell. "I- I just didn't think-" she started, hesitant but Simon shook his head. "it's fine, no one really understands anyways. I know you all thought it was just a fling, that we'd get over it. That it would never work. So, it's fine really." the vampire said and sat down on the armchair, watching Jace. His hands were twitching. Isabelle seemed embarrassed. "I'm sorry, Simon. We didn't- I guess we just thought Jace would never go for it. He's not like that at all." she said and Simon scoffed. Yeah, Jace wasn't soft and cuddly, but he cared about a lot of things, contrary to everyone's belief. Simon had learned a lot in the last month and the one thing he knew, was that when Jace set out to do something, he put his soul into it. He'd treated Simon better than he'd ever had been treated, and that was saying something, considering that just before all this started, Simon had been accustomed to the obnoxious and arrogant behavior of the shadowhunter, just like everyone else.
Save me save me save me
I can't face this life alone
"Simon?" it was but a whisper, but Simon's eyes shot up, body tensing as they watched Jace open his eyes. He struggled on the couch, his mismatched eyes panicking. "Simon." he said again, like a plea and the vampire shot up, moving next to the blonde. He tried touching his hand but it was scorching hot. He felt panic arise in himself as well. "Jace, I'm here. You're going to be fine." he said and Jace's eyes fixated on him. "I don't-" he started but as Simon watched him, his eyes flickered to a blackness. The blue and the brown was gone, nothing but darkness staring back.
"Simon, I have no clue where I am." Jace said. His voice was still his own. There was no demonic grumbling or growling, like you'd see in movies, or on rare occasion, Simon had seen it with his own eyes. But Jace's eyes were still black abysses. He was pretty sure the blonde couldn't see him, judging by the way he moved his head, uncertain. Clary kneeled next to them. Jace squirmed, like he was fighting something and then, he gave a pained gasp and shuddered. "Don't touch him. Don't touch him." the blonde said, his voice strained and pained. Simon furrowed his brows, leaning in. "Jace? Jace, listen to me. I'm here and we'll get this thing out of you." he tried, moving his hand to Jace's hair. He could see the sweat glistening on the shadowhunters forehead.
"Done!" came a call and Magnus was standing, the pentagram's beautifully drawn line on the floor, in a black star. "Why is he burning up?" Simon wanted to know and Magnus came over, frowning. "I have a hunch. I'll move him, it's better if you don't touch him anymore." the warlock said, snapping his fingers and making Jace literally float in the air, gently setting him down in the middle of the pentagram. "Could you all please step back a little." Magnus asked them and Alec gave him a hesitant look. Magnus's eyes went to him, the warlock nodding in reassurance. Alec stood back, but not as far as the others, hands on his blades. Magnus began to chant and Jace's body quivered.
He was trembling, mouth open and eyes closed but no sound came out. Simon had never felt so afraid for him. There was a black mass, shining and glimmering in blue, also, right beside Jace inside the pentagram. It was like smoke, but started to take form and Simon noticed that it looked like a human. When it was standing, looming over them, almost 4 inches taller than Alec, at the least, Simon realized it resembled, most-likely, a seelie or a warlock, with their different skin-colors and other markings.
Save me save me save me
I'm naked and I'm far from home
The skin of the thing was blue, black lines curling all over, like markings drawn with a thin line, connecting all over his body. One, long black mass of braided hair went as low as his hips and he was wearing exactly the kind of pants as a- "Wait a minute." Simon said, eyeing the creature, whose eyes were a shining green and blue, mixed with a tinge of gold. "A genie." Magnus exhaled and Simon saw Isabelle raise her eyebrow, while Maia seemed even more shocked. "Genie? As in, a djinn? The 'I grant you three wishes' djinn?" the werewolf asked and the creature inside laughed. "Mortals and their fairy-tales. So gullible." he said and his voice was echoing slightly, but cutting through the tension like a knife. Magnus frowned. "No, not exactly. Genies are powerful demons, that can possess someone, make them see the happiest things or the worst things, depending on what works better, and then they feed off of that emotion. They can live for years like that, until the body they are possessing, gives out." the warlock explained, slight disgust in his voice. "That's why Jace's body temperature was burning up. it knew I was trying to get it out."
The genie laughed mercilessly. "You make it sound so glum. It's really a joy. This one, little shadowhunter, he has both horrible and pleasant memories, ones I can turn into a world he could walk in, forever, trapped inside his own mind as illusions." he said and Simon's hands went into fists by his side. "Wait, but if he's here, then he's not in Jace's body anymore, right?" Alec asked, hope in his voice. Magnus's mouth was a thin line as the genie turned towards him. "Son of Asmodeous. It's an honor." he said, making an exaggerated bow. "Can't say the same." Magnus responded, in a way of greeting. "Rude. But, what can one expect from a Prince of Hell. They always thought everyone was below them." the genie said, not bothered by Magnus's remark.
"He is not actually here, this is just a projection of him, that the pentagram brought out. He is still in Jace, poisoning his mind." Magnus said to the others, ignoring the demon. Alec's eyes widened. "So, what can we do?" Simon asked, standing determined. He stared at Jace's seemingly lifeless body and found that his throat was constricting and his eyes burning - was he trying to hold back tears? "It's not that simple." Magnus said, glumly and Alec intervened. "What do you mean?" he insisted and Magnus spared him a glance. The parabatai was watching his brother on the ground, eyes burning with angst. Simon could relate.
The slate will soon be clean
I'll erase the memories
To start again with somebody new
Was it all wasted
All that love?
The genie was observing them hungrily. "You'd have to come and get him, is what the warlock is trying to say. It's not complicated, actually." the demon offered, casually. Clary frowned. "Why would you tell us that?" she asked and Magnus clicked his tongue. "Because, he knows that he might gain another soul, most-likely. Genies are... hard to get rid of." Magnus said, eyeing the thing. The blue genie laughed again. With a snap of his fingers, Magnus sent the Genie disappearing in a puff of smoke. "What do you mean?" Alec said again, like a broken record. Simon felt despair taking over him. "I mean, they play cruel tricks on your mind. You either go mad, or they conjure up a world so real, so happy, you won't want to leave. Like when Clary visited and alternative universe. She almost forgot what she was supposed to do. This is much worse." Magnus said, his eyes closed now. When he opened them, the cat-eyes were gone. "The chance of coming back is almost non-existent, and there is no way to force the genie out." he continued.
There was a silence and then Simon said "I'm doing it." Clary instantly protested. "Simon, what if you get trapped, too?" she asked, but the vampire shook his head. "Let's skip the part where you try to convince me not to go." he said, but Alec made a noise. "I should go, I'm his parabatai. Our bond is stronger, I could get him out." he said, and Magnus's eyes went to the older shadowhunter. The look was sad and defeated, like he knew this was coming. Simon shook his head. "The bond doesn't matter, right, Magnus? It just has to be someone strong enough not to get lost in the illusions." he said and the warlock gave him a glance. He seemed to catch something in his eyes - thankfulness, maybe.
"No, it doesn't matter. But still, the chances are-" he started but Simon waved his hand. "very low, yes, yes, it's all very tragic. Listen, I'm doing this. How do I get him out?" Simon asked and Isabelle stepped up. "Simon, just think-" she started but Simon had enough. "Look! I get that you all really want to do this, but the truth is I have nothing to lose! I'm a vampire, I live an immortal life, that I never wanted! I have no family - no offense, but you guys are not my mom or sister. I have less to lose than you, because the person I wouldn't ever want to lose would be lost with me - so I'm saving him!" he didn't realize he had been shouting, not until he ended his sentence and noticed the shocked faces of the others.
"You know, 'cause who can live without Jace's snarky comments." Simon finished weakly, smiling. Magnus's eyes were stern on him. "If you are sure, Simon." he said finally and the vampire smiled. "You used my name." he stated, victoriously and Magnus rolled his eyes. "Don't get used to it. I just didn't want you to die thinking I don't know your name." the warlock said. "No one is dying." Maia said firmly and Isabelle and Clary nodded. "Yeah, stop that." Clary said, her voice tense. Simon spared a glance at her, trying to look reassuring.
I hang my head and I advertise
A soul for sale or rent
I have no heart I'm cold inside
I have no real intent
"What do I need to do?" Simon asked the warlock, who was still eyeing him. There was something in Magnus's eyes - something like regret or pity. "Well, you'd just have to lie down next to him and make contact with his skin while I chant. Then, you'd be in his mind - seeing whatever he is seeing. The most important thing is to remember - he has to want to come back himself. If you try force him, means you're also forcing the genie, and he could die. Also, I can't bring you back myself." Magnus said and Simon looked at him, confused. "What do you mean?" he asked and the warlock seemed slightly sad. "Well, the thing about being trapped in someone's mind is that it's not real. So, you're not real, in it. If you kill yourself, or get killed, you come back into your own mind, resurfacing." the warlock said, grimly.
There was silence and then Maia exhaled. "Simon has to kill himself to get back." she asked, incredulous. Magnus nodded slowly. "Well, that's a fun way to spend my evening." Simon mumbled and Clary grabbed his hand. "You don't have to-" she started but Simon ignored her. "And Jace?" he asked and Magnus nodded. "Well, the minute he realizes what's going on and when he truly believes that what he is seeing is not real..." he trailed off. "He'll know what to do." he stated simply. Simon stared at the man. "What-" he started but Magnus's hand rose. "Trust me, Sheldon, okay? Now, if you want to do this, we have to hurry." he said, impatient and the vampire nodded.
"What happens when the genie is out?" Simon asked finally, laying down next to the blonde. "I'll get to kill him." Alec said, with a dangerous glint in his eyes and Magnus raised an eyebrow at him. "What he said. Ready?" he asked and raised his hands, once again ready to chant. Simon nodded and the other watched him. "Be careful." Clary said. "And come back." Isabelle added and the brunette smiled at them. He touched his hand to Jace's burning hot one, linking them.
Save me save me save me
I can't face this life alone
When Magnus started to chant, Simon's eyes fell close and he felt a weird and painful tug at his stomach. He fell into darkness, faster than he would've liked. It was like being on a rollercoaster. He always threw up on those. With a flash, everything stopped and he felt himself lying down on something much more soft than a floor.
He let his hands trail the surface, noticing how Jace's hand wasn't in his anymore. "Jace?" he asked, opening his eyes. The light flooded a bedroom, one he didn't recognize, and he tried sitting up. His muscles were sore and his eyes adjusted to the light, still. He felt something underneath his skin and he stilled, trying to figure out what it was. Then, he realized something. He stared down at his arms and veins and reached his fingers to wrap around his wrist, checking to be sure. His pulse. It was beating. He almost jumped off the bed when he felt his heart thump in his chest. It'd been so long since he'd felt it. It was almost as if he could hear it beating, the blood rushing through his ears.
"What in the-" he started but then, he heard someone singing. No, humming, more like it, with the occasional words. There was clattering of the pots and pans. He stood up, moving towards the door. He couldn't sense anything as if it was heightened, anymore, and with a jolt he realized - he didn't crave for blood, as his stomach crumbled. He craved food. Real food. What the hell?
He opened the door and stepped into a kitchen, the red cupboards shining in the morning lights and the wooden kitchen island full of ingredients for something. The person behind the stove was the person humming a tune, his hips swaying slightly. Jace's blonde hair were even more golden and Simon felt as if the edges of the scene in front of him were blurred slightly. Jace turned, and Simon almost gasped. His pale skin was blank of the runes, his eyes glinting with joy and his chest covered with a white T-shirt. His face looked pure and unscathed, his hands the same. Simon stepped closer. How was this possible?
Then, he stopped with a jolt as he spotted a picture on the fall, framed golden. It was Jace, Alec and Isabelle. And Max. Little Max. But he was dead. He couldn't be on the picture. Simon realized, what was going on. Jace's mind had conjured a new life for them, one where they weren't shadowhunter and where Simon wasn't a vampire. He doubted that Jace even knew of the Shadow World in this illusion of his.
Save me save me save me
Oh I'm naked and I'm far from home
"Good morning, babe!" Jace said cheerily, moving along the pancakes on the stove. Simon watched him as he approached, observing. The blonde seemed cheerful as ever. "Jace?" Simon asked, moving to wards him. Jace turned, leaning in to him and kissed his cheek. It burned hot and Simon almost jolted away. This was not right. "Sleep well?" Jace asked and Simon stared at him. His mouth wouldn't for words. "Babe?" Jace repeated and Simon went to him, seizing his hands. "Jace. You need to listen to me. This is not real. I am not real." he said and the blonde smiled at him in confusion. "Simon? What are you talking about? Are you alright?" the blonde asked and touched his forehead, as if taking his temperature.
Simon swatted his hand away aggressively and grabbed his arms. "Simon? You're hurting me." Jace complained but Simon held him still. "Listen. to. me. You are a shadowhunter. You were possessed by a genie and I came here to help you. None of this is real, Jace. You are not an ordinary human, and neither am I. I'm a vampire and you are a shadowhunter. Right now, you're lying on Magnus's loft, beside me, unconscious and possessed. You need to come back to me, Jace. Come out of this illusion." Simon said, each word punctuated. "What?" Jace just said, his eyes now confused and scared, even. The Jace Simon knew would never be scared like this. Not this easily.
"Jace, the genie is playing tricks with your mind! None of this is real!" Simon said, waving his hand around. Jace stood still. "Simon, what are you talking about? Of course it is. And what about Magnus's loft? We just left it yesterday, remember? We had dinner with Alec and Magnus. Are you feeling well, babe?" Jace asked and Simon growled in frustration. He grabbed the picture off the wall, thrusting it into Jace's face. "Max isn't alive. I know you would want him to be, but he's not. He died in the war, remember? You conjured a world where everything is happy and well, but there's not everything you thought about." Simon said and Jace gave him a scared glance. "What?" he whispered.
Simon touched his neck, where a chain lay. He pulled at it, revealing a quite heavy pendant of green emerald, hanging above his chest. Simon touched the stone, turning it around. The words 'Angels descending, bring from above, echoes of mercy, whispers of love' were engraved at the back in small lettering. "Where'd you get this?" Simon asked, knowing the answer. Jace stared at him, incredulous. "You gave it to me." he said slowly, like he was afraid Simon was losing his wits. "And why? Why did I gave it to you?" Simon asked and with a triumphant smile, he saw Jace hesitate.
Each night I cry I still believe the lie
I love you 'till I die
"I don't- I don't remember. Because it was my birthday?" he asked and Simon laughed, coldly. He didn't like this version of Jace. "I gave it to you, because I think of you as my angel. I told you 'You are nephilim and there is angel blood in you, but to me, you are nothing but an angel. You saved me and that's what you should be called, because you are heavenly, more than anyone else in the world.' It was fitting, for a shadowhunter, especially one with such powers as yours." Simon said, breathing heavily. Even in this world, Jace couldn't quite shake the past of his inheritance. He couldn't give up being a shadowhunter, one of the Angels creations.
The blonde's eyes were staring at him, wide and terrified, confused, but there was a flicker of something. Hesitation, again. And Simon grabbed it. "Jace, if you love me, you'll believe me. I'm not lying. You are trapped and you need to snap out of it. Come back to us, to me." he pleaded the blonde and Jace stared at him blankly. "I don't- Simon, I don't understand what you're talking about." he whispered, unsure and Simon put his hands on his shoulders.
Then, he pulled them back and stalked to the kitchen, getting a knife. Jace looked alarmed then, releasing the pendant, letting it slip through his fingers and resting on his chest again. He came towards Simon, just as the brunette held it against his chest. He set his jaw, looking determined. "Simon. What are you doing? Put that down." Jace said, pleading. Simon stared back at him. "Is this was the real world, would I do this? I love you, Jace. I want to be with you, more than anything and I'd always protect you. I'd die for you, don't you know?" Simon breathed out and Jace's eyes seemed even more desperate. "Simon-" he started, his voice quivering, but Simon shook his head with a slight smile on his face.
"I'd die for you. But I'd never leave you willingly. If this is real, would I do this? Jace, would I leave you like this?" he asked and the blonde stared at him in disbelief. Then, his eyes went back to the framed picture, sitting on the counter now, and he touched his pendant. "But, I..." he whispered, eyes back on Simon. "I love you. Come back to me, Jace. I know you can. You're stronger than you think you are. I can't save you, only you can do that." Simon told him gently, smiling.
He breathed in. This isn't real, he thought. Still, he felt sorrow that he had to leave the beating of his heart, the pulsing of his veins. All he ever wanted was right here. But he couldn't have it. Jace would never be happy in a life like this. He braced his arms and as Jace's eyes widened and he leaped forward, Simon drove the knife into his chest, right where he knew his heart was beating loudly.
Save me save me save me
He opened his eyes, with a loud gasp and bolted upright. His eyes were staring ahead and all he could hear was people shouting and all he could see was Clary's red hair in her face as she was holding him up. He gasped and realized - he didn't need to breathe. The thumping of his heart was gone. He swallowed, feeling sorrow take over him. He pushed it away, looking at Clary. "Clary. What happened?" he asked and looked to his right, remembering Jace. The blonde was sitting there, his head in his hands and Alec on his side, one hand on Jace's shoulder, rubbing circles.
Magnus came into view, shutting the book that was in his hands. "Well done, Sherman. You managed to save your boyfriend." he said, somewhat happily and Simon's head quipped to Jace. He wasn't looking at anyone. "The genie?" he asked and Magnus seemed even more happy. "Gone. Banished him the second Jace woke up." he stated, indicating to his spell book. Simon turned towards Jace, touching his hand slightly. He didn't take it away, but he tensed and Simon furrowed his brows. "Jace?" he asked, hesitant and Jace finally removed his hands from his face. They were streaked with tears and his lower lip quivered slightly as he said Simon's name.
The brunette stared at Alec, who had an anguished look on his face. "What happened?" he wanted to know, but Simon shook his head. "Can you all just give us a moment, please?" Simon asked, putting his request as mildly as possible. It still sounded like an order. He just wanted to protect Jace. He knew the blonde was feeling vulnerable. Clary and Alec seemed to want to protest, but it was Maia who spoke. "Come on, everyone. They are all fine, we can catch up later." she said with a stern voice, making them all stand up.
Save me save me oh save me
Don't let me face my life alone
As they left the room, Simon came closer to Jace on the floor, letting his hands go to his face, making the blonde look at him. "How did you get out?" he asked softly and Jace shivered a little. "I didn't want to live in a world without you." Jace said simply and Simon's eyes bored into his. His chest ached, even though his heart didn't beat. "Oh, angel." he just said, bringing Jace into his arms, safe and sound. Jace's body quivered, shaking with sobs and Simon just soothed him, letting his hand stroke over the strand of dirty blonde hair. When Jace calmed, Simon pulled back to press a kiss on his forehead.
"You came for me. I would've though Alec would've insisted on it himself." Jace said, his voice barely above a whisper. Simon scoffed, hand still stroking his hair. "He tried, but I was persistent." the vampire said and Jace chuckled, giving a watery smile. "I feel so stupid. Especially because of the crying. I feel like a baby." he said and Simon laughed, hugging him tightly. "Oh, come on. You're allowed to have emotions, however you try to suppress them." Simon joked and Jace chuckled. Then, he pulled back, to look at Simon's eyes again. "You saved me. Even though you said you couldn't save me and that I needed to do it myself, it was still you. You knew me better than anyone, you do know me better than anyone. You saved me, even when I thought I didn't need saving." Jace said, slightly perplexed but his voice carried a sweet emotion.
"I'm always going to be there to save you, Jace." he said and pressed a kiss on Jace's forehead again. "But in the end, it was still you, who save you. I just helped. I know the world without all this - shadowhunting and downworlders and sexy vampires - could seem tempting," Simon said, making Jace give him a glare "but I know you'd never trade it for anything. You love to do what you do. And even though I want to be human again - I've thought about it more times than I care to admit - I'd never trade this world against anything. I love you, just as you are right now. I'd never change that." Simon told him and Jace's arms around him tightened, like he was holding on for dear life.
"I love you, too." he said and they both ignored the fact that it was the first time they'd said it to each other. Simon felt it come so naturally to him, that he hadn't even paid attention that the words slipped from his mouth. Jace scooted closer, his face reaching up to Simon's and the brunette let his hands go to his cheeks, stroking them as their mouths collided, making Simon see stars behind his closed eyelids.
Jace's body wasn't burning up anymore, but Simon still felt like heat was taking over him, the light pouring from Jace making him flare up and feel as if they were wrapped in an angelic glow.
Save me save me oh
I'm naked and I'm far from home
