Five - in which Simon hopes for Jace to stay as he is (AU)
A/N: This time, no one is actually singing the song or playing it, so the lyrics are just fitted to where I thought they'd best suit. Enjoy :)x
When Simon packed the last of his things, he realized he was missing his toothbrush. He left the bag unzipped and straightened up, to go looking for it. Instead, he found Jace leaning on the bathroom door, muscular arms crossed and holding a green toothbrush in his hand. He waved it, smiling deviously.
"If I don't give this to you, will you stay?" he asked, smirking. Simon rolled his eyes, but smiled as he playfully smacked Jace's shoulder, snapping the toothbrush from his hands. "I can always buy a new one, you know." he replied, putting the brush into his bag and zipping it up. Jace made a small noise and Simon turned back to him. Jace was wearing a T-shirt and tight black jeans, looking gorgeous as ever. His blond hair were styled to perfection and Simon felt the urge to run his hand through them, making them messy and undone. Something about Jace made him always want to dishevel him, to pull on an invisible rope or a strand, making him fall apart. He was too perfect for his own good.
"It's only for four weeks. Think you can survive that?" Simon asked the blonde, raising his eyebrows and putting his hands on his hips. Jace was still leaning back, one foot propped up against the door, looking smug and arrogant as ever, that perfect small smile playing at his lips, making Simon want to bite down on it, to make it disappear. He found himself thinking, that he wished he could freeze this time frame, so when he got back, Jace would still be there, leaning against the door, looking at him like Simon was something beautiful.
Don't want to see you out tonight
Don't be with someone else
Just stay the way I left you, stay the way I left you
"I don't know, can I?" came the snarky answer, to which Simon rolled his eyes again. He put his hand in his hair, running through them, trying to untangle them, and his muscles flexed when he did this. Jace's eyes were now glinting and he propped himself off the door, taking three long strides to Simon. Simon yelped in surprise when Jace lifted him up and, instinctively, Simon curled his legs around Jace's waist. The blonde boy set him on the kitchen counter, resting his hands on Simon's hips and looking at him intently. Simon let his hands go around Jace's neck, slowly stroking at the back of his hair.
Same spot in the kitchen
Same LaCroix still sippin'
Sayin' nothin' that you got to do
Same time on the clock
Keep the re-runs runnin'
Keep your shirt unbuttoned
Keep thinkin' that I'm comin' back
"I can't stop thinking about you and it's driving me crazy. What will I do when you're actually gone? You'd be running through my mind all day, and how will I get things done then?" Jace almost growled, when he pressed a butterfly-light kiss on Simon's jawline. The other boy shivered at the touch, his body instantly reacting. Jace had that effect on him. "It's only Washington. Not even 4 hours away." Simon answered, looking into Jace's eyes. They were dark and full of desire and it made Simon curl his toes unintentionally. Jace's firm hands held him and the boy pressed another kiss on his shoulderblade.
I'm gonna press pause and hold you back
If you're the first to move on
I can't handle that
"Promise me you won't find someone else?" Jace asked, his lips moving against Simon's skin. The other boy sighed. He knew Jace was insecure about their relationship which, granted, had only lasted for about two months. But he would be lying if he said he wasn't filled with jealousy, when he thought about Jace with someone else. Although they had never actually established, if they were dating. They just sort of happened. And now Simon found himself in his apartment with Jace keeping him company, more than he'd cared to admit. "Are you crazy? Nobody would ever come close to you, you are the sexiest man alive." Simon said lightly, trying to cheer him up. Jace always loved it when Simon praised his good looks. Funny, he was insecure about that, too, apparently.
Don't want to see you out tonight
Don't be with someone else
Just stay the way I left you, stay the way I left you
Want you to be happy but still goin' through some hell
Just stay the way I left you, stay the way I left you
Jace was now pressing kisses along Simon's neck and jaw, humming contently. They were feathery light kisses, making Simon's skin tingle and leaving it hot where Jace's lips had touched him. Simon's hands glided down to Jace's back, reaching up his shirt and the blond made a small noise when Simon's cold hands reached his hot skin. Jace was always hot. Pun intended. He was like a radiator, always burning and to Simon, it was like coursing close to the sun. So close, he could get burned, but he didn't care.
Don't change up your make-up
Don't make friends we make fun of
Don't find yourself a better life
I don't know how I'd feel
I know the world's always turnin'
And people live from the hurtin'
But I need you, messed up for a minute
For a minute
"It's just...This job, we both know that you might not come back. That maybe you'll get a permanent offer, and I know you will because you're excellent at what you do, and then, you'll never come back. And I'll still be here, in my little restaurant, waiting for you to come through the doors." Jace breathed out, finally looking at Simon in the eyes. Jace's eyes glinted like gold in a specific light, his brown turning into the shining metal and the blue shining through like the sky at dusk, when the color is still faint and unidentifiable. Simon felt himself getting tense a little. It had only been a month, and Jace was talking like they we're going to get married and have a family some day. Simon found the thought oddly comforting.
I'm gonna press pause and hold you back,
If you're the first to move on
I can't handle that
"I just got you to myself. I'm not going to let you go. Just wait for me, okay? I'll be back before you know it." Simon softly said. He knew he sounded like he was going away for a year. But in their relationship, that had only begun and was still in it's baby shoes, almost a month apart seemed like a trial thrown in their path. To see if they really were meant to be together. Simon firmly believed it was true. He lifted his hand to touch the stubble on Jace's jaw and the blond shut his eyes, his face a picture of bliss.
When Jace leaned in and kissed Simon, the other boy instantly parted his lips. The kiss was hungry and demanding. Jace growled when Simon bit down on his lip, making all the blood in Simon's body boil and rush down south.
"I'm going to be late." Simon mumbled against Jace's lips, putting a hand on the blonde's chest in an attempt to push him away. Jace parted from him, smirking a little but his eyes were sad. "That's the point." he replied. Simon rolled his eyes. "Jace." he warned. The blonde winked, but stopped kissing him. Simon wished Jace didn't work at such a famous restaurant, so he could at least come visit. But that was not an option.
Don't want to see you out tonight
Don't be with someone else
Just stay the way I left you, stay the way I left you
Want you to be happy but still goin' through some hell
Just stay the way I left you, stay the way I left you
Jace's eyes were pleading when he spoke. "Simon, promise me you'll come back, yeah?" he said. Simon's heart ached at the sight. Jace seemed so sad, his eyelashes fluttering and his voice shaky, hands trembling when they held Simon's own. "Of course, darling. I promise." Simon replied and pressed another kiss unto Jace's lips, desperate to remember it as long as he could. Maybe it'll get him through it.
When Simon picked up his bag and went to the door, he turned around once more. Jace was leaning on the counter, looking like he was sculpted by God himself. He probably was. Every time he laughed, Simon could hear the angels sing. If that wasn't heavenly, then what was? With this thought in mind he smiled at Jace, who smiled back. Simon blew him a kiss, in an attempt to draw out that beautiful laughter, and Jace pretended to catch it. Simon smirked and Jace laughed. Thank God it was the last sound Simon heard, before he left the apartment.
Stay the way, stay the way I left you
Just stay the way I left you
