Act 1, Scene 5: The Ball Room

Caddarics's Employees-Peter and co-workers-come forth with chairs, tables, plates, etc.

Peter: You three! Go and set the tables! Group A! Unfold the chairs, clothes, and tables for the plates and dishes! We must hurry and prepare for the Caddaric's 5th Anniversary and their daughter's birthday tonight.

Co-worker A: Sir! Have you seen my men?

Peter: Which one?

Co-workers: They were supposed to bring in the campaigns and one of them should have the lists of all the guest names that were sent out 2 days ago.

Peter: That would be Group B, I presume.

Co-worker A: Yes. I believe so.

Peter: No matter. We will call in a delivery truck from the famous wine company that is just around the corner. The list should have been saved with the boss's file. I will go get them.

Co-worker A: You are very well prepared, sir. [in awe] To be able to do many things at once is very well skilled and add with precisions.

Peter: Yes. [turn to Co-worker B] Is the preparation almost complete?

Co-worker B: Yes. Everything is ready. Oh! The boss asked for you, Sir.

Peter: Alright. You are in charge now.

Peter exit.

Co-worker B: I swear. The man is trying to over-work us each day!

Co-worker A: You should know by now that life is never easy to begin with.

Co-worker B: [sigh] Indeed. [Turn to the other employees] Listen up! Sir Peter has put me in charge for the remainder of the day. All of you may now leave and wait for the next instruction from the boss. Go!

Co-workers and employees all exit.

Enters both Caddaric and Lady Caddaric  with Tylor, Raven, and other members of the house.

Guests with mask enter.

Caddaric: Thank you all for coming to our company's 5th Anniversary, and also for my daughter's 16th birthday!

Everyone: [clapping, until stopped]

Caddaric: Ladies and gentlemen! Tonight. We have prepared a special occasion that you all will most likely be pleased. We have organized a mini-game that may brighten your spirit and your inner excitement that have long been buried within the past since childhood.

Caddaric's butler enters

Caddaric: On your respected seat, there should be a piece of paper that is blank. There you will put in your name and hand the pieces over to my butler. He will collect them once you are all done.

Caddaric's butler begins to collect the names

Caddaric: Now then. The rules are simple. My lovely wife will be picking two names from each of the separate boxes and call them out. Once the two names are called out; that person will be your partner for the remainder of the evening night.

The guests looked confused but interested.

Caddaric: I suspect that you all will participate and have a wonderful time with your partner. You may find your partner by coming up to me. Oh! One more thing that I have forgotten to mention. At the very end, there will be a vote to choose who is best fitted as the "King and Queen", and will do the honors of wearing the golden and silver crowns of Verona.

The guests "ooh", and "wow"~

Caddaric: Let the game begin!

Music begin to play
Lady Caddaric calls out the names

Lady Caddaric: Roseline and Johnson!

Caddaric: Where are they?

Lady Caddaric: I do not know.

Caddaric: Pick the next name then. The two might be able to find themselves once the names are all drawn.

Martin, Baron, and Jimmy enters.

Martin: You name yourself, Johnson?

Baron: For what Jimmy?

Jimmy: I didn't want them to know that there is a Maerewine within their house. Especially since I am related to them.

Martin: Who cares! The more we cause trouble in this dump place, the better for us to have some fun!

Baron: And the ladies~

Martin and Baron: [Laughing]

Jimmy: [hissed quietly] Shhh~ Keep it down!

Tylor pause before them until continuing on

Jimmy: [sigh in relief] That was a close one.

Baron: I'll say.

Martin: Tsk! Whatever. I can still take him down.

Jimmy: [warning] I don't want any trouble. So if you can't control that attitude, or that sharp tongue of yours, then I will make sure that we all leave immediately.

Martin: Alright alright. For the love of Verona, you should just chill out.

Jimmy: [whisper angrily] How can I 'chill out' if I can't even make sure that you won't run off and pull pranks on everybody! For your information, you tricked me into getting into this party. The least I can do is to prevent the consequences from happening. Especially here.

Martin: I'm not a kid you know.

Baron: [muttered]  To us, you are.

Martin: Just be quiet.

Baron: Jimmy, go and enjoy yourself. I'll make sure that Martin is well-behaved. You've been babysitting him for almost a whole day now, after that fight at school.

Jimmy: No kidding. I just got back from America for the second semester and already I found you guys fighting in school campus when I was walking by. I don't know if I should be grateful for stopping the fight, or just dig a hole and die because now the whole school knows that I am Maerewine's son.

Martin: [shrugs] It could've gotten worse.

Jimmy: [sarcasm] Yeah. Could have gotten worse.

Raven and Nancy enters

Nancy: Oh! A party! I can't wait to show off those men with my dancing skills!

Raven: [sighed] Good to know.

Nancy: [paused] Milady? Are you alright?

Raven: Yes. Of course. Why wouldn't I be?

Nancy: Because your eyes are not that shiny anymore. Your face sags. Your smile is down. Even your hair is down! Now, young child, tell me. What is the matter?

Raven: Would you laugh if I spoke out truthfully? And at the same time, listening to my ramblings and feelings that I am trying to sort out right now?

Nancy: Yes. I'll listen to everything.

Raven: Alright then. [breath in, then out] I feel like I don't....belong here.

Nancy: Whatever do you mean?

Raven: I mean to say that I don't feel like taking over my father's company, or handing it over to some other noblemen that live far off of the countryside. I feel like...like...like I'm alone. My life was decided by someone else instead of mine. My parents choose to have this party to celebrate both their Anniversary and for my 16th birthday. I know that they mean well, but this...this doesn't seem like the kind that you celebrate a teenage's birthday with everyone that you know and love. It's more like a trap that you set beforehand in order to make them follow their rules. Bring them in, get good terms with them, and make them your ally. I should know. I've been watching my parents from the shadows for almost my entire life now.

Nancy: Hmmmm....I see. So you want to be freed of them. To live a normal life like a normal teenager would do.

Raven: Exactly.

Nancy hugs Raven

Raven: Nancy?

Nancy: My dear child. You have grown so much. All I want for you is to be happy. You are both young and beautiful, yet wise and know to choose her words carefully. [whispers] I hope there will be the time when you finally find the right partner that will surely give you that happiness in the future.

Raven: [smiles] Thank you.

Nancy: Now then. [whispers] Your name has been called. Go, girl, seek happy nights to happy days.

Raven and Nancy put on their mask and join the fun

Butler enters with drinks

Butler: Excuse me, young man. Would you like to have something to drink?

Jimmy: N-No sir. I am alright. I do not drink alcohol.

Butler: Would you like for me to get you something else?

Jimmy: No thank you.

The Butler bow, before leaving

Jimmy: Wait, good sir!

Butler stop and turns back

Butler: Yes?

Jimmy: [pointing to the center of the ball room] Do you know that young fair lady over there who is dancing with another woman?

Butler: I'm sorry sir. I do not know. It is hard to recognize those with a mask over their face.

Jimmy: Hmmmm.....

Butler exit

Jimmy: Why does that peculiar woman interest me? Is it the way she dances so elegantly? Is it because of the way her hair as black as night swish from side to side, while her sapphire eyes glow when the beam of light from the chandelier hit the right mark to make them sparkle and shine? Or is it because....she is having so much fun without a care in the world.

Tylor: Just now. That voice. I can tell by his voice that a Maerewine trespasser has entered this building. Guards!

Guards enters
Caddaric come forth, drunk

Caddaric: What's all this?

Tylor: Uncle! There's a Maerewine trespassing inside your house. We must find him quickly!

Caddaric: My dear [hic] boy. For whatever for? He is just a Maerewine. The least you could do is have some fun. Guards. Go back [hic] to your post.

Guards exit

Tylor: Uncle, listen to me. Our enemy is within our territory. We have to get rid of him. I want every guest to be checked over until we find him!

Caddaric: [angry] You say what!? [dragging Tylor to the corner, and slap him] If you are going to ruin my 5th Anniversary and treat my guests with such disrespect; you will be punished! [kick Tylor]

Tylor: [grunting] B-But Uncle!

Caddaric: Silence! If you do not stop this instant, then I'll let your father know of the disrespect that you have brought me tonight in my own house! Get out! And stay out if you have to until you have learned to keep your  mouth shut and not talk back to me again.

Caddaric walks away

Tylor: Damn that Maerewine. I'll make sure that he'll pay for the harm that he had done to me. For now, I will wait until the next time we meet.

Tylor exit

Jimmy: I can wait no longer. I must know who she is.

Raven stop dancing and sit

Jimmy: Fair milady. [stop then bow]

Raven: Good evening sir. Is there something that you want?

Jimmy: Well, actually. I was hoping if you would like to dance with me?

Raven: But don't you have a partner of your own?

Jimmy: I'm afraid that I have been talking to my friends. I....did not listen when Lady Caddaric announced the names.

Raven: [laughs] In that case, I will tell you mine. My partner goes by the name of 'Johnson'.

Jimmy: Oh my! What a surprise. My name is Johnson.

Raven: Oh my indeed! [shock]

Jimmy: [smirk] Would you like to dance with me, my lady? [bowing]

Raven: Hmmmm....I believe so. Alright. I will take your offer.

Jimmy: [taking hold of her hand] The music is way too fancy for me, but at least I know a bit of the step.

Raven: Do you not know the basic steps of the song?

Jimmy: Err...I have heard of it. But taking lessons on it is not really my thing. I prefer music that gives off a hop-beat rhyme. Such as the one that you have just danced to earlier.

Raven: [blush] You saw?

Jimmy: [chuckled] Of course! How can't I? Out of all of the dancers; yours caught my eyes instantly.

Raven: I-I see.

Jimmy: Is it alright for me to know your name?

Raven: What?

Jimmy: Your name. It seems fair to exchange introductions, correct?

Raven: [hesitated] R-Roseline. My name is Roseline.

Jimmy: Roseline. [mutters] Doesn't seem to fit for some reason.

Raven: Do you not like the name?

Jimmy: It's not that I don't like it. It just doesn't fit your image.

Raven: My image? Sir Johnson, you do not even know my face.

Jimmy: I do not even need to look at your face. All I need to know is what the kind of person you are. Right now, I have already seen a passionate girl who dances like a soaring bird that wants to be free and fly into the sky. Your black as night hair is the same color as a raven's, which symbolizes strength and wisdom. Your eyes, sapphire, give out a glow that reflects off of the light beautifully. Do you know that the gem, sapphire, represent hope and faith?

Raven: No. I do not. How do you know all this? And what does the symbol of hope and faith have to do with me?

Jimmy: To answer your questions. I know the meaning of every kind of gems because of my mother. What symbolizes hope and faith means that you are blessed by Lady Luck herself.

Raven: Lady...Luck...?

Jimmy: That's right.

A drunken guest accidently pushes Raven and Jimmy outside.
Fell and accidentally KISSED

Jimmy: Oh Verona! I am so sorry, Lady Rosaline.

Jimmy trying to get up
Raven pull him back down

Raven: You are the first to ever speak to me like that. Most men that I have encountered have only called me 'beautiful', and nothing more.

Jimmy: For one, milady, they are true. You are beautiful.

Raven: [smile] That may be, but I wish not to use this beauty to capture a man's heart and not be able to return it. I do not love them. They love me for my looks. They do not know me. Nor do I want them to know me. But you.....you are different from them.

Jimmy: 'Different'? Should I consider that as a compliment or an insult? [smirk]

Raven: [laugh] Oh yes. Very different, indeed. So different that I bet that behind that mask of your is nothing more but a man whose skin is as pink as 'Reine Victoria'.

Jimmy: [pout] For your information, I always make sure to put on sunscreen whenever I go out into the blazing heat of the sun.

Both Jimmy and Raven laugh

Jimmy: [smirk] By the way, how long are you going to hold on to me?

Raven: [blushed before pushing him away] S-Shut up!

Jimmy: [low whistle] Ooh~ How feisty.

Raven punched him

Jimmy: Oww~! That hurts.

Raven: That's what you get, jerk.

Dramatically lay his hand on his heart; like he's been wounded

Jimmy: [gasp] Mil'day! You have wound my heart!

Raven: Oh, quit being so dramatic.

Jimmy: As you wish.

Silence

Jimmy: So. Miss Roseline, are you going to tell me your real name now?

Raven: [little surprised] What do you mean?

Jimmy: Your name. You know, a word or set of words by which a person, animal, place, or things is known, addressed or-

Raven: Alright! I get it!

Jimmy: [smirk] Then tell me your name.

Raven: [sighs] My name is-

Nancy enters

Nancy: Lady Raven! Your mother is calling for you!

Raven: N-Nancy?!

Nancy grabbed Raven before pulling her away.
Jimmy follows them.

Nancy: Your mother would like to speak to you.

Raven: W-why?

Nancy: Your mother is presenting your future-husband. Now hurry my child or your mother will have my head!

Raven and Nancy ran up the stairs before meeting Lady Caddaric
Jimmy stopped at the bottom of the stair

Jimmy: [confuse] That is Lady Caddaric. Does Lady Roseline know her?

Lady Caddaric: This is my sweet daughter. Raven Caddaric.

Presenting El Duke.

El Duke: A pleasure to meet you, my fair lady.

Took hold of her hand and kiss it.

Raven: Likewise.

Lady Caddaric: Don't just stand there. Take the mask off.

Lady Caddaric pulls the mask away from Raven

Raven: Mother!

Jimmy froze in shock

Jimmy: [pulling his mask off] Did she just say....mother!? [to himself] Oh Verona! My first love has been stolen by my family's enemy; the daughter of the Caddaric house.

Raven look down to see Jimmy's face
El Duke and Lady Caddaric continues to talk

Raven: Nancy. Whose family does that gentleman down there belong to?

Nancy: Gentleman? [looking down] His name is Jimmy. He is a Maerewine! A son whose family is a rival of yours.

Baron and Martin enters

Baron: Jimmy, we got to go.

Jimmy: Why?

Baron: Because this moron here thought it would be funny to set a paint time bomb in the Caddaric's bedroom chamber!

Jimmy: He did what-!?

Exploded; colorful paints covers Caddaric's bedroom chamber

Martin: [smirked] Oops.

Baron grabbed both Martin and Jimmy away; exits

Raven: [shock] Oh no. [to herself] He said that the color of my eyes has the blessing of Lady Luck. Could he be wrong? Oh no, please, no! My heart before was pounding in happiness. But now it beats in pain. How will fate help us between the hatred of both our families? John-no-Jimmy. Will I ever see you again?

Caddarics, Raven, El Duke, Nancy, and everyone exited
