With that question the detectives knew that Adam's patience was wearing thin. "Do you know of anyone that would harm Miss Santos?" Michaelson flat out asks.
Adam scoffs, "You mean besides my family? Miss Santos used people. I would have fired her some time ago if she hadn't brought so many customers into my strip club. The bouncers had to put out fires started by her every night sometimes multiple times a night. Once she got what she wanted from the person she targets she doesn't have any use for them. There are countless people that she used and discarded in this manner. I haven't any idea what all their names are. You can start with the bouncers in my club though. They have issues with her and could tell you the names of others that have issues with her."
"Thank you, Mr. Demarco, just one last question, did you kill or have Miss Santos killed?"
Adam looks at the detective with amusement, "No, I didn't, but when you find out who did, let me know and I'll pay for their lawyer."
The detectives and Adam rise from their seats, Michelle watches things carefully. She'd bet her life that Adam had everything to do with Judy's death, but she couldn't tell it by any of his actions. She wishes that she could lie as well as him.
She gets up and starts to leave, "Wait, Michelle, I owe you an apology. I acted terribly last night. I know that won't get your forgiveness and that's alright. I just want you to know I appreciate all that you've done to help Julie. You have been a true friend to her. Thank you."
"Did you kill Judy?" Michelle demands of Adam.
"What do you think?" Adam retorts sardonically.
"I think you had everything to do with it."
"Why didn't you say anything to the detectives then?"
"I like living, Adam, and I'm not stupid. Even if they believed me there is no proof, charges would never be brought against you. And last of all, Judy went too far and is or rather was mentally unbalanced, she would have killed Julie if Julie and you all were human and not vampires. The world is a safer place with her gone." Michelle stiffens as Adam comes up to her and caresses her face.
"You know the rule about humans was changed so that you could live here and not need to be marked like Julie. She didn't want you to have to be with all of us, she wanted you to be with just Arthur. She loves you, Michelle, and as long as she does you never have to fear me."
Adam opens the door to the study for Michelle, "You should rest some more, Arthur wasn't happy about you coming down and dealing with the detectives. Thank you for giving them the background they wanted."
"I didn't do it for you," Michelle says angrily. She hates to admit it but the feel of Adam's fingers on her skin wasn't repellent in the least.
"I know, Michelle." Adam smirks at her, "Don't worry I will stay away from you as well. I don't take what isn't mine."
Michelle looks up at him with large eyes. "You mean you haven't figured it out yet? Aiden and I can both read minds. But I didn't need to read your mind I could smell your reaction. I won't hurt my brother or my wife, even if I could I wouldn't."
Michelle all but fled with her cheeks burning. She didn't dare go back to the room until she got her emotions under control. Arthur can also smell emotions quite well. She doesn't need to cause even more problems.
Adam chuckles to himself at her reaction then heads up to Jewel's room. He loses all amusement as he opens the door. Looking over to his wife he looks at her aura and gives a slight sigh of relief. Her aura looks less grey, it is by no means white, but it isn't anywhere near the grey it had been either.
"It seems the visit of the children did some good. I take it the detectives are gone?" Mary Ann says when Adam doesn't say anything after coming in.
"This happened with the children?" Adam says ignoring the question.
"Yes, the effect of their presence was almost immediate. She started doing better as soon as they touched her. Direct contact seemed to do the best."
Adam nods at his mother's words, "At least it seems I've done something right lately."
"You've done a lot of right and only a little wrong. It's just the wrong is so impactful that it seems to overwhelm the right. Marriage is a series of ups and downs you know that Adam. When she wakes up talk with her and work things out."
"I will if she will let me. She's had to put up with a lot because of me, because of what I am."
"Yes, and? She loves you. She knew what she was walking into with her eyes wide open. She had even been kidnapped before you got married. She loves you, Adam. You just need to remember to show her that you love her too." Mary Ann says and gets up from her seat at the bedside.
"I'll leave you to be with your wife. But when Aaron comes in I want you to get some sleep, you look like shit."
"Gee, thanks mom," Adam says snarkily.
"You know, you might be king now, but you still can be whacked on your hind end for impertinence to your mother you know."
"Love you mom," Adam says tiredly sitting down in the chair Mary Ann vacated.
"I love you too, Adam," with that Mary Ann leaves the room and goes to find her husband.
Adam takes Julie's hand, "I know I screwed up again Jewel. I know one day you're going to get fed up with my screw ups and leave me. Just don't do it now, please? I don't think I could stand it if you did.
"The police have found Judy's body and came here looking for answers. They even wanted to talk to you and I had to show them that you weren't in any condition to answer their questions. Michelle went down and answered what she could. Perhaps I should have made her body so it would never be found. It seems like all I do any more is make mistakes. I wouldn't blame you if you did decide to leave me. You are by far too good for me."
"You're on the right track, keep it up vampire boy," Julie's sweet voice comes to him, but it isn't so sweet right now. Sounds dry and scratchy. Adam helps her sit up and gets her something to drink.
After she takes a long drink she puts the glass down and looks at Adam, "Now tell me about the police coming here and talking to you?"
