Olivia chuckled, sipping on her coffee from where she sat on the couch, watching her friend Jenna running through the kitchen, claiming aloud, "Toast! I can make toast."

"No, Jen, you can burn it," She retorted as Jenna turned around, narrowing her eyes to which Olivia shrugged, "Did I lie though?"

Elena had a small smile on her face, descending the stairs, "It's all about the coffee, Aunt Jenna," She waved her hand Olivia's way, greeting, "Morning, Olivia."

"Morning, Elena," Olivia smiled in return before asking, "So, the first day as a Junior, how does it feel?" The brunette raised her eyebrows, suggesting a few possible answers, "Empowering? Boring? Weird? New? All of the above?"

Elena chuckled, shrugging her shoulders, "I could settle for new now but save empowering for the first day as a Senior if I get there."

"Oh, but you will. Those will be your best years, live them well," She advised, sighing.

"How were yours?"

Olivia pondered upon the question. She had never been to high school. True that she was short and beautiful and with some makeup, the twenty-eight-year-old could pass, or compel her way in but she just never felt like trying. She had gone to many colleges, though. Less effort to look young.

The Nightingale vampire loved learning, she loved knowing new things about unexpected sciences. It made her feel...evolved and Olivia liked that feeling, more than anyone could imagine.

"They were really nice...and unforgettable," Olivia claimed, answering before she lowered her voice, inching closer to Elena, "But between me and you, break a few rules. It will help."

"I heard that!" Jenna turned to her friend with a disapproving glare.

Olivia shrugged, putting her empty cup of coffee in the sink, "What? It's not a sin to break a few rules. Just gotta keep staying alive, eh?"

"Please don't take advice from her," Jenna pursed her lips together, turning to Elena.

The older brunette vampire smirked, huffing out, "Don't speak like her isn't standing right here."

Elena smiled, shaking her head at the two as Jeremy descended the stairs, asking, "Is there coffee?"

Jenna panicked, shaking her head as she moved around the kitchen's island, "Your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared," She paused, offering, "Lunch money?"

Elena declined, shaking her head, "I'm good." Just as Jeremy took the money, without so much as a little thank you.

"Anything else? A number two pencil—"

Olivia interjected, claiming, "Jenna, they are old enough to not need a number two pencil."

The strawberry blonde shrugged before huffing out in frustration, "What am I missing?"

"That meeting with your thesis was 2 seconds ago," Olivia stated, taking the empty breakfast plates to the sink, "Not that that's important or anything..."

Jenna looked down at her watch, cursing out, "Crap!"

Olivia sighed, reassuring, "Go, Jen. I will take them to school. They will be fine, don't worry."

She nodded, smiling before picking up her car keys, "You are a lifesaver. I love you!"

"Love you too!" The vampire called after her, smiling before Jenna slammed the door shut, "Okie...you two ready? I don't wanna be late for work."

Elena shook her head, "You don't have to, Bonnie is taking me."

She patted her shoulder, nodding, "Okay, just tell her to drive safe."

The Gilbert girl gave her a thumbs up before Olivia turned to Jeremy, "Where are your things? C'mon."

"I don't need a ride."

Olivia chuckled, replying, "And I don't need to deal with a teenager running through his emo phase but then again, life is not fair."

Jeremy rolled his eyes as she picked her bag off the table, stating, "Two minutes and you are in the car, if you are a minute late I will drive you to every high school party from now on," He didn't seem to take her threat seriously before she added, "Plus, walk you in...I can get pretty embarrassing and tell them all about last year when—"

He cut her off, yelling out, "Fine, I am coming!"

She smiled smugly, waving at Elena before walking out the door. Elena smiled, shaking her head as she looked over at Jeremy, "No comment."

Olivia walked out of the bathroom after changing into her scrubs. Willa was walking out of the operating room and taking off her gloves, "Ugh, I hate this."

"Willa...hi, what's wrong?"

The human brunette sighed, shaking her head, "He is not going to make it," She pursed her lips together, looking over at a woman and a little boy, sitting in the hallway, "He is all they have...I can't imagine how it would feel like telling them this."

Olivia furrowed her eyebrows together, "What happened to him, exactly?" She shoved her hands in her scrubs pockets, awaiting her fellow doctor's answer.

Willa bit the insides of her cheeks, answering, "A car ran him over. Most of his vital organs are not functioning...I mean I tried to do what I can but he has like...hours left."

"Is his survival a possible chance?"

"I am not God...but it'd be like a miracle," Willa replied, looking back at the mother and her son, "And a blessing to them."

"Can I...take a look at him? See what I can do?" Olivia pursed her lips together, asking.

The brunette curly-haired doctor shrugged her shoulders, "I mean, yeah, of course, but it would be just putting yourself up to tell them the truth and that would be saving me the heartache by the way. So, I am encouraging that."

"We won't get to that, hopefully."

✵ ✵ ✵

"Okay, that! What the hell was that?"

Willa asked, her eyes widening in disbelief as the man's wife and his son rushed into his room, minutes after he woke up, all good and well. "Are you magician of some sort?"

Olivia chuckled, shaking her head, "I was just...hopeful."

"Girl, teach me your ways because that was amazing!"

Olivia Nightingale smiled, shrugging her shoulders. She did cheat by feeding him her blood. It was almost usual for her, considering her chosen line of work as a doctor, of course, she did actual operations but sometimes there was no fixing it, and Olivia could never find it in herself to inform someone that their loved one died. She considered vampirism a gift in some places and she intended to use it for the better good of others.

Willa waved her hand in front of Olivia, calling out, "Hello, Earth to Olivia! Still here."

Olivia blinked back, shaking her head, "Yes?"

"I was asking if you were free tonight? There's a dinner thing with my boyfriend's family and I absolutely hate it so...if you could come?" She asked, smiling hopefully, "It would be less awkward, please?"

"Sorry but me and your boyfriend don't get along so I don't wanna even think about me and his family," Olivia scoffed, shaking her head, "No offense but Jason is a jerk. He hates me."

"He loves you," Willa shook her head, claiming, "He is just going through that moody hot boyfriend phase, you know?"

"No, I don't," The Nightingale shook her head, raising her eyebrows, "I have known him for three years, that's a pretty long phase."

Willa sighed, nodding, "Okay...he doesn't like a lot of people."

"But I am likable," Olivia retorted, her lips forming a pout, "I am the most likable person I know."

Her brunette friend laughed, shaking her head in disbelief, "I can't believe you just said that, Liv..."

"What? It's true!"

Willa chuckled once again before asking, "What are you doing tonight anyway?"

Olivia folded her arms together, shrugging, "I don't know...just single hot doctor things?"

"Oh, my God! Olivia Nightingale, are you going on a date? Like an actual date?"

"In your dreams," She replied, shaking her head as Willa huffed out. Olivia sighed, rubbing the back of her neck, "I will probably stop at Jenna's and binge a show or something."

"Boring," Willa sang it out, rolling her eyes, "At least after a long night dealing with his family, I can rely on getting laid at the end of the day."

"Typical."

✵ ✵ ✵

"I brought Chinese!"

"My hero," Jenna smiled, stepping away from the door to let the brunette doctor in, "Jeremy bailed and Elena is about to, this responsibility thing is boring."

Olivia shrugged, reply, "Well, that's why you have friends, my darling. Keeps you sane," She pulled the takeout boxes out of the bag, stating, "I can't imagine what bossing a kid like Jeremy everyday sounds but I know that he will get back to his nice loving self...soon enough."

"I hope."

Olivia nodded before the doorbell rang and Jenna rose to her feet, "I am gonna get something to drink from the kitchen, can you get that?"

"Sure," Olivia made her way to the door, a small smile planted on her lips before she swung the door open and her smile dropped, her eyes meeting the green ones of the one to knock.

She furrowed her eyebrows together, naming, "Stefan?"

The brunet boy frowned as well, recognizing the Nightingale vampire, "Olivia...what, what are you doing here?"

"I should be asking that," Olivia retorted, shaking her head in disbelief.

"Stefan?" Elena greeted, looking confused as she stopped beside Olivia, "What are you doing here?"

"You know him?" The brunette vampire asked, turning to Elena.

Elena nodded, shrugging, "Yeah, he is the new student in our school."

"Um, I thought you might want this back," He stammered shortly before handing Elena her diary.

Olivia raised her eyebrows, looking between the two before rolling her eyes and making her way inside, "Don't stay out late. It's a school night."

"Don't worry," Elena called back, "Jenna already checked with me."

Olivia was still trying to process seeing Stefan Salvatore after so many years before Jenna Sommers stopped in front of her with two suggestions, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer or...True Blood?"

"Uh...none of the above?"
