Four years ago...

"Janae! You get back here this instant!" Janae's mother disapproved of what she tried to do.
"No worries, I'll be fine, mom," six year old Janae said, with her scraggy voice.
"If you don't climb down, I'll come up there and get you myself!" Her mother spoke firm.
Janae climbed further up her friend's treehouse, ignoring her disapproving mother who was serious about her child's safety.
"Carly's parents aren't worried about her playing in the treehouse! They approved of me playing around with it!" Janae's mother tapped her foot and crossed her arms.
"But I'm not Carlene's parents."
Little Janae rolled her eyes at her mother.
"Don't disrespect me!" Her mother yelled, in anger.
Instead of doing what she was told, Janae disobeyed her mother, and climbed the treehouse anyways.

"Janae! You take one more step, and I'll come up there!" Her mother wasn't kidding about her coming up there.
Janae mocked her mother's words, and jumped up and down in the treehouse. But what Janae didn't know, was that the old treehouse was slowly falling apart.
As Janae jumped up and down, her leg slipped, because of a little piece of wood that tore off of the treehouse floor.
"Janae!" Her mother shouted, concerned and frightened about what was happening right in front of her eyes.
The treehouse fell with Janae in it. It tore apart, and fell to the ground, along with Janae.
Her mother covered her mouth, there was nothing she could do, but try to get the wood off of her slim, weak child.
"Janae!!" Her mother cried. She was unconscious.
Her mother brought her to the hospital.
As her mother approached the room, the nurse walked up to her mother.
"Well? Is she going to be alright?" Asked her curious, concerned mother. "No. I'm afraid not." Replied the nurse.
"Wh-what do you mean, 'n-no'?"
The nurse looked down at Janae. "She broke her neck, and not to mention, both of her legs."
"She'll heal though, right?" Asked her shocked mother.
"Well..." The nurse didn't finish her sentence. "What are you trying to say?"
"When Janae fell down and hit the ground, she broke her legs terribly. There's a chance that she'll never be able to walk again," replied the nurse.
Her mother stood in shock. "My child will never walk again!"

And that's how Janae ended up in a wheelchair...for the rest of her life.
