Ch. 29 The Truth If Nothing But (UNEDITED)

Thad  Erickson.

Jericho stared at Coopers lawyer, the short man dressed in a tailored suit, a leather briefcase in his hand and a fake smile on his wrinkly face.

"I don't remember inviting you in." Jericho glared, eyeing both the lawyer and the man who he assumed to be the doctor.

"Calm down Jericho, we're not here for you. We're here for the girl."Coopers lawyer stated, fingering the edge of Jericho's couch before taking a seat on it, his chubby legs crossed at the ankles. "And you didn't need to let us in, Alec did."

Jericho walked over to his brother in law, who stood off to the corner, an apologetic look on the Afro-Americans face. "Any specific reason you let them into my apartment, and this without warning?"

Alec pressed the papers he had previously been reading onto Jericho's chest, his eyes becoming darker.  "They have a warrant out for your girl and it was either me letting them into your place or the cops. And police drama is the last thing the both of you need."

Jericho sighed with frustration, eyes flying over the warrant. "Fucking Cooper!"

Without notice Daisy had walked into the living room, a limp in her walk and a shaky smile on her face. She hurried over to Jericho's side, laying a hand on his back. "What's wrong?"

Jericho ignored her, his eyes flying over the warrant again. "Fuck, I don't know what to do! Fuck, fuck, fuck!"

Daisy slowly took the warrant into her hands, the men in the room watching her as she read through it. After a few moments she glanced at Jericho, a confused look on her bruised face. "I ... I don't understand." She paused, her eyes flying to Cooper's lawyer and the doctor. "A DNA t-test?"

It was silent in the room, nobody knew what to say as they watched Jericho wrap the girl in his arm, his face red with anger for his brother. What would a DNA swab prove? He knew for a fact that Daisy and Tori weren't sisters. That was just too crazy, even for their twisted love story.

"Miss Zamora, my client Cooper Maverick has changed his plea to not guilty and therefore I will need a DNA swab from you to prove his assumptions right and to clear him from the possibility of the death sentence."

"What are his fucking assumptions?" Jericho asked, perplexed that his brother would really drag an innocent woman into his drama.

"Well Jericho that information is classified, but Cooper did ask to speak to miss Zamora before she goes through with the DNA swab." Thad Erickson smirked, before pulling out his phone, dialing a few numbers as the other three bystanders watched on.

"Cooper, it's me ... yeah she's here." The lawyer smiled, rubbing a hand over his jaw, before he stepped closer to the couple, holding the phone out for Daisy to take.

She hesitantly took the cell phone into her hand after glancing at Jericho for his opinion. What was the billionaire supposed to say? There wasn't anything he could do at the moment besides be there for her and comfort her in this time of chaos.

Daisy smoothly pulled away from Jericho's grasp, walking to the bathroom down the hall. Stepping in, she closed the door behind her before putting the phone to her ear. Mind the fact that her heart was beating twice the normal speed and she could barely think, she manged to stutter out a 'hello'.

His voice was deep and raspy, making Daisy legs quiver just a little more. "Hello Daisy, I've been meaning to speak to you for a while."

"W-hat do you want?" Daisy questioned, biting the inside of her cheek, as Jericho silently walked into the room, watching her. Daisy gave Jericho a faint smile, before she put the phone on speaker. "I-I ... I'm not her sister if t-that is what you think."

"I wouldn't be to sure about that, Daisy." Cooper chuckled. "Tori seems to think she had a sister and if it isn't you, who then?"

Daisy was glad Jericho had joined her because when his brother uttered those three words she nearly lost her footing, tears and shock overcoming her. "N-no, no ... t-that's not possible."

Jericho grabbed the phone from Daisy, his anger skyrocketing. "Fuck you Cooper, what are you trying to do?! Daisy has nothing to do with Tori!"

"Jericho, I gave you a heads up, and after our talk I'm surer than ever, that Tori was Daisy's sister."

"You can't do this Cooper." Jericho argued, as he silently motioned for Daisy to take a seat on the closed lid of the toilet, her ankle swelling up again. "They aren't sisters. They can't be."

"Daisy, I'd rather not seem insensitive, but what caused your mother to fall ill?" Cooper asked, ignoring his younger brother.

Daisy grasped the pendant of the necklace around her neck, lips trembling. "A-a rare genetic heart disease ... she, uh p-passed due to c-cardiac arrest. W-why?"

"Have you've experienced any of the symptoms your mother showed?" Cooper continued to question, this time his voice taking on a more gentle tone.

"Even so Cooper, genetic doesn't mean she has to have it." Jericho muttered, his chest hurting as he watched the wheels turn in Daisy's head. "And Tori sure as hell didn't have a heart condition."

Cooper's voice was pained, the situation clearly meaning more to him than he had let on. "That's were you're wrong Jericho. Tori had been dealing with symptoms weeks before her death. S-she was scared, terrified, so we went to get her checked out in Seattle, to keep everything private. The doctors there had detected a late stage of the condition and there was n-nothing they could do."

Jericho could feel the burning in his eyes, the lump in his throat. This wasn't possible. No way. "You're lying Coop. Tell me you are lying."

"I'm not, I swear I'm not. I think Tori was Daisy's twin sister." Cooper revealed. "I haven't quite worked out the rest and how they got split, but they are the same age and look very similar."

The room once again fell into a painful silence, the truth of the situation suffocating them.

Daisy slowly made her way over to Jericho again." W-when's Tori's birthday and w-where was she born?"

"July 23th 1993, Lancaster Hospital here in Cali." Both men answered without skipping a beat.

Jericho could see all the hope wash from Daisy's face, the color draining as well. Jericho dropped the phone, pulling Daisy into his arms as she clung to him. Her face buried in the crook of his neck, her shaky breath landing on his tattooed neck.

Cooper's voice was still audible with the phone on the floor. "Jericho, I n-never murdered Tori. S-she was my everything, my sister, my best friend, my w-wing woman." Cooper chuckled humorlessly. "She was in pain, the heart condition catching up to her with full force. I gave her the meds for the pain, but in the end her heart gave out causing her to go in cardiac arrest that could have been caused by an overdose, but it was the condition..."

Jericho couldn't form in words, his mind playing the scene in his head as Cooper had described it. It was possible, but why hadn't he suspected Tori to be sick or even in pain. Was she that good of an actress?

"Jericho, you have to believe me ..."

The younger brother switched off his emotions like a light switch. His face grim as he held on to Daisy with all the strength he could manage. "If you take this revelation to court Cooper, you'll ruin Daisy's life. You can't do this to her."

"Daisy I need you to give up your DNA. I hate to ambush you like this with a warrant, but there is enough probable cause and this could possibly save me from a lethal injection."

"If this is all just to prolong the trial so you can escape a second sentencing, I'll ruin your little bit of life you have in jail." Jericho warned, resting his head on top of Daisy's, the whole situation too surreal.

"Trust me for once brother." With that the call died, leaving the couple in an even bigger mess than they had been.

>>>>><<<<<

So the truth is finally out!!

What deal is Cooper offering and whatever it is, should the couple trust Cooper?

If the answer to Tori's death is so simple why hadn't Cooper confessed before?

How will this affect Jericho and more important how will this affect Daisy?
