Ch.2 Two Sisters (D)

UNEDITED!

"Please come to the Halloween party this weekend." Victoria, Daisy's best friend begged.

"We never go. Why can't we keep up the tradition?" Daisy asked, while typing away on her essay.

Victoria groaned from her spot on Daisy's twin sized bed. "Just this once Daisy, please."

"Why is it so important to you?" Daisy saved the document, closed her laptop and turned to her best friend.

"Ethan and Ella are hosting the party." Victoria placed her hands on Daisy's slender shoulders, a puppy dog look on her face. "Please with skittles on top."

Daisy looked away, but nodded her head slowly. Victoria always managed to get her way, almost like Lillian, ... but the difference was that Daisy genuinely liked Victoria.   "Fine, but you better stay by my side."

Victoria kissed Daisy's forehead, hugging the petite girl to her chest. "This weekend will be great. Do you want to stay at my place after the party?"

"I can't. I have to work Saturday morning."

"You know you work every weekend, right?" Victoria watched Daisy pull on a cardigan over her summer dress. "I don't understand why Lillian can't help out."

Daisy pulled a face, sighing softly. "It's easier this way."

"On who, Lillian?" Victoria hated the fact that Daisy had to work twice as hard and twice as much compared to her bitch of a sister Lillian.

"Victoria, please. Don't do this."  Daisy had long come to the understanding that Victoria didn't like her family. But Family couldn't be chosen, so what was she to do?

"I won't, but just because I have to go." Victoria said, while slipping on her gladiator sandals.

"Can you drop me off down town, please?"  Daisy didn't have a car, not with the low income she got from working downstairs at the restaurant.

"Of course."

Daisy turned off everything in her room, before grabbing the expensive dress shirt in the black garment bag out of her small closet. The two girls were on their way out of the restaurant when Jeffrey called Daisy. Motioning for Victoria to go ahead, Daisy met Jeffrey's pale green eyes.

"Where do you think you are going?" Jeffrey pulled Daisy aside, his meaty fingers bruising the pale skin on Daisy's upper arm.

Daisy refrained from wincing out in pain. "I ... I have t-to go in to the city."

"Take your sister with you." Jeffrey pulled out his wallet. "She mentioned something about buying a new wardrobe."

Daisy had the urge to roll her eyes, but she knew better. "O-of course."

Jeffrey squeezed Daisy's upper arm once more, before calling Lillian. Said daughter came walking down the stairs in her skin revealing outfit and her high heels, blonde hair flowing down her back. The girl looked like a supermodel.

Jeffrey handed Lillian a wad of cash, before planting a chaste kiss on her cheek. "Go buy something you like, sweetie."

Lillian tucked the wad of cash into her bra, grinning at her father like the Cheshire cat. "Thank you, daddy!"

Once upon of time, Daisy would have stormed off with tears in her eyes at the lack of love she received from Jeffrey compared to her sister. Yet now she was used to it, and only felt a tiny pinch in her stomach.

Daisy and Lillian met Victoria in her car, a custom silence between the two sisters. The streets of downtown Santa Monica were always busy, especially around noon. Half an hour later, the sisters were getting out a few blocks away from Maverick & Sinclair,  the well known law firm.

"I'll pick you up Friday, around nine o'clock. Wear a cute costume." Victoria called to Daisy, while leaning over the console of her red Mini Cooper.

Daisy felt like backing out of the whole party thing, but the excited look on her best friends face told her to do otherwise. "Okay."

Daisy said her goodbye, afterwards watching Victoria drive off. The 5'2 girl turned to her sister that was considerably taller standing at 5'9. "Where do you need to go?"

Lillian glanced at her sister, blue eyes spotting the black garment bag in Daisy's hand. "Where do you need to go?"

"I need to drop off Mr. Maverick's shirt. Do you want to meet up after I'm done?" Daisy asked, as they began walking down the busy sidewalk.

Lillian smirked, and threw her thin arm around Daisy's shoulder. "I'll come with you, baby sister."

..

The two girls walked into the large building, men and women dressed in suits walking by them. Daisy walked up to the reception desk, a nervous smile on her face.

"What can I do for you?" The woman behind the desk asked, her eyes moving between the two sisters.

"I-I ... I n-need t-"

Lillian groaned loudly. "What floor is Mr. Maverick on?"

Daisy wished the floor would open up and swallow her. Why was it that Lillian always came to her rescue? Daisy always turned into a stuttering mess when talking to strangers and Lillian always seemed to be there to push her further into her misery.

The receptionist smiled sympathetically at Daisy. "Top floor. I'll notify he's PA that you two are on your way up."

"T-thank you."

Lillian and Daisy were in the elevator on their way up to the top floor and Daisy could feel her hands start to sweat. She hugged the garment bag to her chest, a sickening feeling pooling in her stomach.

Would Jericho even notice Daisy, when he had the better option with Lillian? Would he even remember Daisy, or the way his simple touch had ignited a fire within her? Would he glance at her again with the softest expression on his handsome face? Would he tell her she deserved better again?

The questions were swarming Daisy's head and she could only grip the bag with his shirt tighter, wishing this was all just a bad dream.

Lillian didn't seem the tiniest affected with meeting Jericho Maverick again. She applied more lipstick and pushed her fake boobs up, while rearranging her floral bralette top. Lillian had already had naturally a nice chest size, but now she was rocking a bigger size and it was obvious her slim body had been under the knife of a surgeon.

Daisy glanced down at her own chest. She wasn't big like Lillian, but she wasn't that small either. Daisy had nothing in common with Lillian, besides their bright blue eyes and the fact that they lived under the same roof.

..

The doors to the elevator opened and Daisy followed behind Lillian, as she walked on the floor like she owned the place. Daisy often wished, she'd have just an once of confidence her sister was graced with.

Lillian past the empty desk of Jericho's PA and knocked on the large wooden door, Jericho Maverick Managing Partner written in bold letters.

A young man opened the door, letting the two sisters into Jericho's office.

"Daisy?"  Both men called.

Daisy whipped her head towards the young man by the door. "Ethan?"

"Ethan you know Daisy?" Jericho asked, standing behind his mahogany desk.

"Yes, she's a friend." Ethan turned towards his boss. "I'll call Mrs. Thompson and let her know you agreed to the meeting."

Jericho nodded, before glancing between the sisters. "Take Miss Morris with you and show her around or something."

"What about Daisy?" Lillian asked, crossing her arms over her chest, tapping her eight inch heels on the laminated floor.

Jericho glanced at his sweet Daisy, who had her eyes downcast while wringing her hands. He glanced back at his assistant Ethan, a stern look on his face. "Like I said before, take Miss Morris and entertain her for a while."

Ethan nodded and guided a mad Lillian out of Jericho's office, silently shutting the door behind them.

Jericho walked over to Daisy, gently grasping her chin and lifting it so their eyes met. "What's wrong?" He asked softly.

Daisy could feel the blood rushing to her cheeks, from just the simplest touch. "N-nothing."

Jericho took the black garment bag from her grasp, laying it aside on the coffee table. "Thank you for the shirt."

"Mhmm." Daisy didn't trust herself to open her mouth. That would just lead to further stuttering and that would lead to her dying in embarrassment.

Jericho smiled at her. He placed his large hand on her lower back, and guided her over to the leather couch opposite of his desk, his touch affecting her greatly. They both sat down, little space between them.

Daisy had realized she was lost in her thoughts, her blue eyes flying to Jericho. "W-what?"

"I didn't think you were going to come, but I'm glad you did." Jericho spoke with ease and it had Daisy wondering if that's how he spoke in court. Jericho was leaned back on the cushions, his silver eyes trained on Daisy, with a comforting smile on his face.

Daisy could feel the anxiety kicking in. Her heart was throwing itself against her ribcage, and she could hear the blood rushing in her ears. She held herself back from biting on her lower lip, like she normally did when nervous.

"How's your week been?" Jericho asked, directing his eyes from Daisy to the other beautiful view.

"... O-okay. How was yours?" Daisy almost squeaked when Jericho's thigh brushed against her own, heat radiating from him.

"It was busy as always." Jericho chuckled softly, glancing from the window view back to Daisy.

Daisy didn't know what to reply with, her eyes darting around the nice office in distress. Daisy was in distress because she had never been in a situation like this. Did Jericho like her? Or did he pity her for the way Jeffrey had treated her?

"Do you want to go out to dinner on Friday?" Jericho asked, softly laying his hand over Daisy's wringing ones.

Daisy eyed his hand in her lap, the way his thumb rubbed over her knuckles. It was a sweet gesture, to lessen the physical symptoms of her anxiety. "I ... I c-can't."

Jericho turned his whole body towards Daisy, leaving his hand in the embrace of her cold trembling ones. "Are you seeing someone?"

Daisy shook her head so fast, she could have gotten whiplash. She could feel a heat simmering between them, or maybe it was just the heat burning in her cheeks. "No."

"Then why don't you-"

Suddenly an elderly woman came storming into Jericho's office, tears streaming down her face and her tiny Chihuahua barking. Jericho and Daisy jumped at the sudden intrusion, Daisy more than Jericho.

"Pippa, can you wait outside just a moment. As you see I have a client." Jericho stood in front of the woman.

"Jericho, they arrested him. They arrested my husband!" The woman named Pippa cried, throwing herself into the billionaire's arms.

"What do you mean? What did Beck do?" Jericho asked, hugging the old lady, his touch genuine.

Daisy slowly walked out of his office, gently closing the door. She didn't want to intrude on the old lady and Jericho. It was clear that the lady had come to Jericho in despair.

Daisy took a minute to collect her thoughts, as she waited by the elevator. He had asked her out. Jericho had asked her out. He wanted something from her that she had never even offered. They were from complete different worlds and that already made it almost impossible.
