Win's POV
When Bright announced that he was going to be gone for a while, I had asked him where he was going. When his answer to that question sounded very vague, I started to feel suspicious.
"It's almost time for dinner," I remarked. "Don't you think it's too late to be going out now? Why don't we have dinner first?"
He did not answer.
I noticed him looking at the time on his phone. He looked a little nervous.
I decided not to push for an answer. Anyway what he wanted to do was none of my business. It wasn't like we were in a committed relationship and that he had to account to me what he did on his own time.
I decided to ignore him and to play a game on my phone.
I secretly glanced at him when he made his way to the bathroom and showered. When he stepped out of the bathroom he was smelling of a new scent that I had not noticed him wearing before.
"Win, I will be gone for a while," I heard him say. "I promise I won't be gone for too long."
I pretended not to hear him. I continued keeping myself busy on the game on my phone.
"See you later," he said before opening the door of our hotel room.
I didn't know why I felt both hurt and offended after he left. Was I starting to develop feelings for him? We were just very close friends for crying out loud. We were just co-actors who had decided to take a short break from our stressful work schedule. We were free agents from each other. We were not committed to each other in any way. We could come to Seoul and enjoying visiting all the different places separately. No big deal.
And yet, what was this hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach that was making me feel uncomfortable.
Maybe I was just hungry. Yes, that was it. I was just hungry.
I looked through my phone to search for nearby restaurants. Or maybe I should just do takeout. Or even have food delivered to my room. But then again if I were to eat all alone that would only make me feel worse.
I went back to searching for nearby restaurants. Aha! There was one right inside this hotel, down on the ground floor.
Yes, I remember that Italian restaurant that was situated right beside the hotel lobby. I had noticed it when I first checked in. The name of the restaurant was Trattoria di Milan.
I called the number and asked whether I needed to have a reservation before I could come in. The staff who answered, informed me that, yes, I needed to have a reservation and that I was in luck because someone had just cancelled his reservation.
"Great!" I said, "I will be down in a few minutes."
"Oh, you're a hotel guest?" asked the reservation staff.
"Yes, I am," I replied. "I'm up here in room 306."
"Oh, you should have mentioned it earlier," said the staff, "I would have told you that hotel guests don't need to make reservations with us. We always reserve extra tables for hotel guests."
"Great!" I said again. "If you're able to place me at a corner table at the farthest end from the entrance, that would be terrific!"
"I can most certainly do that," I heard the restaurant staff say.
"Thank you so much," I said.
"Are you dining alone or are you bringing a guest with you?" asked the staff.
"I'm dining alone," I informed him. "Unfortunately my partner bailed out on me this evening."
"I'm sorry about that," said the staff.
"I am, too," I said, trying to sound regretful, but because I did feel sorry for myself, the regret did come through in my voice.
"I will have a waiter prepare a table for you now, sir," said the staff.
"Thank you. Oh but wait, I was skimming through your menu and I think I already know what I would like to order. Would it be possible to order my choices now?" I hoped that the staff would say yes because I was indeed hungry by now. The hollowness in my stomach was not just due to my disappointment with Bright but was a physical emptiness due to lack of food.
"Most certainly, sir," I heard the staff assure me.
"Great! I will be down at your restaurant in just a few minutes," I said.
After I had made sure in the full length mirror inside the room that I looked presentable enough, I grabbed my wallet and made my way to the Trattoria di Milan downstairs by the lobby.
The staff greeted me at the entrance. A waiter was already waiting for me as well, ready to usher me to my table.
It was a good thing that I had requested for a corner table at the farthest end from the entrance because on my way to the table I spotted Bright sitting at a table by the wall.
Because the waiter had blocked his view, Bright did not see me pass by his table. Fortunately, his back was to my table so he would not be able to see me while I was dining.
His dinner guest had his seat to Bright's side so he wasn't facing me directly. I could only see the side of his face. I could not tell whether he was a Thai like us or a Korean. I wondered if he had agreed to meet up with that guy even before we had booked our vacation.
I felt even more betrayed, which was silly of course because we were just friends and co-actors. He had every right to do as he pleased without having to tell me in advance what his plans were.
I tried to enjoy the rigatoni with vodka sauce that I had ordered. It tasted good but it would have tasted better with Bright sitting beside me.
I was halfway through my dinner when I noticed Bright and his companion standing up and starting to walk away from their table.
Oh shit, I quickly ran over to the restaurant staff at the entrance desk and gave him my card and told him to put my dinner bill on it plus a generous tip for the waiter who had served my dinner.
The staff seemed to sense my urgency because he did the transaction as quickly as he could and handed me my receipt immediately with a murmured thanks.
I rushed out the door to run after Bright but in my hurry did not notice someone who seemed to be rushing in the same direction. I bumped hard into him, making him almost lose his balance.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!" he scolded me.
"Sorry," I said to him, pointing at Bright and his companion at the same time. "I have to go after my friend right there. He is walking away with someone whom I do believe is a complete stranger and I am afraid for him. That guy might be some psycho killer."
"Are you referring to Jungkook???" the guy looked at me in disbelief.
"Whoever he is, I don't trust him," I said, running towards Bright and Jungkook again.
"Holy cow," I heard the guy saying. "I was just about to run after them myself because I do not trust that Thai guy that Jungkook is with."
"It doesn't matter what you think," I replied. "I'm going after them right now."
"Wait," said the guy, holding me back by grabbing my wrist. "Why don't we just follow them first instead of confronting them right away. Let's see where they're going and what they're up to. We can always just follow them at a safe distance where they won't be able to notice us."
"Very well," I agreed.
The guy held out his hand to me. "I'm Namjoon, by the way," he said.
I shook his hand. "And I am Metawin."
We didn't have much to say to each other after that because we were focused on keeping Bright and Jungkook within our sight.
After a few minutes of following them, we noticed that they were walking towards the pathways leading to the Han River.
We followed them for quite a distance and then I saw Jungkook going towards a cement bench that was close to the water's edge. I saw him motion for Bright to sit beside him.
Bloody fuck, Bright sat much too close to Jungkook, and double fuck, I saw him drape his arm around Jungkook's shoulder.
I was getting ready to move up to them, but again Namjoon held me back. I gritted my teeth when I saw Jungkook put his arm around Bright's back and then run his hand up and down Bright's back.
"That's enough," I muttered, trying to shake my wrist off Namjoon's hold but he held on tight.
However, when we saw Bright lowering his face towards Jungkook to presumably kiss him, it was Namjoon who let go of me and rushed towards them, quicker than lightning.
He grabbed Jungkook by the back collar while I slowly approached Bright, not bothering to hide the hurt and anger in my face.
"You have a lot of explaining to do," I said to him, poking my index finger at his face.
