Kay's POV

"Nice place," I said to Win as I looked around after he let me into his condo unit.

I noted the luxurious authentic leather sofa, the gigantic screen against the wall,  the huge entertainment center, the granite kitchen counters and kitchen island, the double door refrigerator with ice dispensers. I could go on and on.

"By the sweat of my brow... " Win said with another tired smile. I could tell he was longing to drop into bed and not wake up till morning.

"Hey, if you wanna call it a day, I'm all for it," I said.

"No," he said, "I can't do that to you. Let me at least offer you a drink."

"Seriously, I'm fine," I said. "I would rather catch up on my winks myself. Tomorrow we could always think of something fun to do after we have energized our mind and bodies."

"Are you sure about that?" Win asked.

"Absolutely," I replied.

"I have a guest room with its own bathroom," Win said. "You can take that room. It's at the end of this hallway."

"Thanks," I said.

"The dresser drawers contain clean new pajama tops and bottoms and clean new undergarments," he said. "If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to ask me. I will leave my bedroom door unlocked."

"Thanks," I said again.

I was out like a light the moment that my  head touched the pillow.

When morning came, it took me almost a minute to remember and to figure out where I was.

I climbed out of bed feeling refreshed and energized. I did my morning rituals and stepped into the shower, enjoying the scented water that sprayed out of the shower head.

After I dried my hair and combed it in my usual fashion, I made my way to the kitchen.

While still in the hallway, the smell of vanilla reached my nose.

I found Win in the kitchen setting a large plate containing a stack of pancakes on the breakfast table.

"Good morning," I greeted him.

He turned around and gave me that famous killer smile of his that sent my blood pressure sky rocketing.

"Good morning, Kay," he greeted me back. "Did you have a good night's sleep?"

"Yes, I did, thanks," I replied. "I was dead to the world the moment my head touched the pillows."

"The same was true with me," Win said with a chuckle. Then he asked, "Do you have any food allergies?"

"Not that I know of," I replied. "Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Everything has been taken care of, except for the coffee or tea or whatever you like to drink at breakfast time," Win replied.

"What would you like me to fix for you?" I asked.

"I usually drink orange juice in the morning," he said. "How about you?"

"I like to drink strong black coffee with my breakfast," I replied.

"The coffee jar is in the cabinet close to the refrigerator," he informed me. "And there's always hot water in the electric kettle over by the corner of the kitchen counter."

While I was making the coffee, Win brought out the jar of maple syrup from one of the kitchen cabinets.

"I also air fried a few mini apple garlic turkey sausages," he said. "You have a choice of ketchup or honey mustard to take them with."

"You have great culinary skills," I said. "Your future spouse is very lucky."

"Don't mention marriage to me," he said with a bitter smile.

"I'm sorry," I said. "I didn't realize that was a restricted topic."

"It's not your fault," he assured me.

I was waiting for him to elaborate on his statement but he concentrated on applying a few drops of honey mustard on his turkey sausage.

I poured a liberal amount of the maple syrup on my pancake before cutting off a small slice and placing it in my mouth.

"Why are you not touching the turkey sausages?" he asked.

"I'm not allergic to turkey but I don't like the taste of it," I informed him.

"Maybe it's because you have not tried this particular turkey sausage," he said, piercing one with his fork and placing it close to my mouth. "Here try it."

I moved away from the fork.

"No, thanks," I said.

He looked very disappointed as he popped the mini turkey sausage into his mouth instead.

"I'm sorry," I said, "okay let me try one."

He pierced another mini sausage with his fork.

"Say aahhh," he said. I was happy to see that he was smiling now.

Win was right. The turkey sausage tasted so different from any other turkey food I had ever tasted. The combined flavor of apple and garlic was uniquely good.

"What's the brand of this sausage?" I asked. "I wanna buy a package or two when I stop by the supermarket."

"When do you plan to go shopping?" he asked.

"Some time later today," I replied.

"Why don't we go together?" he suggested. "My refrigerator is running empty and I need to re-stock my kitchen cabinets."

"Sure," I said. "What time do you want to do it?"

"Late in the evening when there are less shoppers," he replied. "Unless you have other plans, do you wanna spend the rest of the day with me?"

"Sure," I replied. "What did you have in mind?"

"We could watch a few home movies or play video games or both," he said, picking up his glass of orange juice and drinking from it.

After breakfast, I helped Win clear the table. I offered to wash the dishes but he said not to worry about it because he was just going to load them into his dishwasher.

The first movie that we watched was a comedy that made me laugh out loud almost non stop. We played some video games before watching another movie, this time a suspense thriller.

Win ordered mushroom and bell pepper pizza for lunch but close to dinner time, he said he wanted to cook a pasta dish. He accepted my offer to help him prepare the ingredients.

I didn't have much culinary skills but between Win and myself we managed to put together a decent broccoli ranch penne pasta dish.

After dinner, Win asked if I wanted to watch another movie.

"You can choose the genre," he said.

"Will you find it lame if I chose a romance drama?" I asked.

"For your information, I have a large collection of romance movies because I like watching that genre myself," he said with a sheepish smile.

He let me go through his collection. I liked every single one of them but I had to choose one that would be memorable just in case this would be the one and only time that I could watch a romance movie with him.

I finally come upon an old movie  called "Love Actually" which explored all the different kinds of love and the struggles to keep love alive and the kind of love it takes to surmount all the obstacles.

"Good choice," Win said with a big smile.

We both had a big smile on our faces when the movie finished. I automatically held out my arms to him and he moved up close to me to receive my tight hug.

Soon Win was glancing at his watch.

"We should go to the supermarket now before it closes," he said.

"If we're parting ways after shopping, I should bring my car," I said.

"You wanna spend another night with me?" he asked.

"I'd love to do that, thanks," I said, trying to make my voice sound casual, although my heart was pounding hard against the walls of my chest.

"Leave your car in the basement then," he said. "We're taking my car."

At the supermarket he pointed out to me where to find the brand of turkey sausages that I liked. I accompanied him to each aisle that he wanted to visit. When it came time to pay at the checkout, he refused to let me pay for my turkey sausages.

"They're my thank you gift to you for keeping me company," he said

"You shouldn't feel like you have to thank me for my company." I said. "I have been enjoying the time that I've spent with you.

Win was driving us back to his condo unit when his phone started to ring. His phone was inside the cup holder between him and me. He took his eyes off the road for a quick second to swipe the screen and tap on the speaker and placed it back in the cup holder.

"Hey, Win," I heard a voice say. "I just landed from Seoul. I'm on my way to your unit."

"Shit," Win muttered under his breath.
