RWBY Volume 6 Chapter 6: Alone In The Woods
Yes I know it's a week late. But hey at least I don't need to put a spoiler warning.
First scene. Nothing really super mind blowing in my opinion. Just some creepy music to add to the already tense atmosphere coupled with Blake giving Yang a sad glance. Then however we see how bad Qrow's drinking is getting. He's downing whole bottles of alcohol not just his flask. Someone give this man a hug because he's broken.
Ok so I did like the little information we got about who started the farm that they're currently staying on. The families kinda remind me of the Amish people actually. Since they were living off the land and farming their own food instead of living in a big city. Oh and shout out to Maria's sass. She's the best old lady.
Now for some reason I thought it was adorable that Yang and Ruby were sleeping under the same blanket. I don't know why but since we haven't really gotten any sisterly moments from them since the mid season finale of volume 5 seeing them sleep together made me Aww.
Speaking of family moments aside from the slight jumpscare in the next scene I loved how Ruby was hugging Qrow. Sometimes I forget he's her uncle and not just someone whos chaperoning her and her friends. So the fact that she even brought up talking to her or Yang because they're family made me tear up a little. Also thank you Ruby for smashing the wine bottle. That needed to be done.
The beginning of the next scene was such a mood for me. Blake reminded me of myself when I have to get up early and go somewhere.
This next scene unnerved me for so many reasons. First of all I got really scared when Maria unintentionally reminded Qrow of his bad luck semblance. I was so convinced he was gonna drink himself to death after that. Second everyone just seemed so emotionless. It was creepy to say the least. They all had those blank stares and monotone voices. I mean yes part of it probably was a reflection of how they're really feeling about to going to Atlas but still it was uncomfortable. Even though I do agree that maybe just hiding the lamp out in the open may be a good option. Oh and let's not forget the jumpscare when those glowing eyes popped out of the fountain before Ruby dropped the lamp in.
This is something I noticed by the way when team RWBY went to get the lamp. It appeared to me that Blake's eyes were slightly glowing and we know she has night vision. Just something I thought I'd point out Now let's talk about the Apathy Grimm. In the diary Maria was reading they looked slightly creepy in reality straight up freaking nightmare fuel! I never thought we would have a skeleton Grimm but yet now we do. Their powers are interesting though since we've never had a grimm that actually has the power to drain the will of a huntsman. Usually the Grimm just attack everything in sight. I was so creeped out by that whole scene though especially after Maria got down there and told them to run and no matter which way they went more Grimm would show up. Also did anyone else notice that when Ruby screamed the first time everyone snapped out of their daze and actually looked like they had emotions again?
Now sorry to bring shipping into this but it's relevant for this next scene. In my ladybug ship opinion I said one of the reasons I didn't like it is because Blake and Ruby have barely interacted at all. However I loved watching Ruby save her and with her silver eyes no less.
This next scene was probably my favorite in the whole episode. I know everyone and their mother has the theory that Maria has silver eyes and I loved watching her help Ruby use hers. Coupled with that was amazing sound work. All you could hear was Maria's voice with the other girls' voices muffled in the background. I just thought that was cool. And it was awesome watching Ruby actually kill a Grimm with her eyes instead of just freezing it or stunning it.
When they got back in the house I'm so glad they actually regained their sanity enough to know to get the heck out of there. Now I will say Qrow's expression as Ruby and Weiss dragged him out of the house after they set it on fire makes me wonder if he's going to try and change his drinking habits. It seemed to finally click for him that his drinking almost killed him.
To end this episode I'm glad we found out what happened to the families at Brunswick farms. I know it wasn't quite what I theorized but I was happy with what we got. Now I know we all wanna talk about the big reveal at the end and yes I am glad that we got the confirmation that Maria did indeed once have silver eyes. I'm just hoping she'll help Ruby learn to use hers as the season progresses.
