Gin's POV

It's been a week since Klaus left and Tyler became a hybrid. I don't trust him alone with Amira anymore. As he has been acting different. Elena has decided she wanted to learn how to fight and defend herself. So Ric and I have agreed to train her. We're currently in the woods and Amira is at Liz's.

Elena's training on one of Alaric's mannequins. He shows her how to stake a vampire with a sleeve and two stakes in it. "So the pressure of your punch ejects the stakes" Ric explains.

"Allow me to demonstrate" I tell her and punch the mannequin hard in the chest. Ejecting the two stakes into it with ease. But I've been training since Amira first phased. "You're turn" I tell Elena as I remove my now empty stake sleeve.

"Easy enough" she states. She tries but the stakes stay in the sleeve. "That's weird" she says and tries again. Same result. "Must be jammed or something" she tells us.

"You're not strong enough. Better start lifting some weights, put some meat on your bones" Ric tells her.

"Thanks for not sugar-coating it" she mutters.

"Don't worry Elena, it took me a little while to get the hang of it. Though an adrenaline rush helps" I tell her. Ric takes something out of his bag and shows it to her.

"You know what this is?" he asks her.

"A vervain grenade. I've used one before" she states.

"Then you know the element of surprise is your only advantage when it comes to a vampire" he tells her pulling the pin. Then tosses it to her. "Surprise" he says.

"Oh my god!" she exclaims and throws it away from us. "This isn't a joke to me, Ric!" she shouts as she removes the sleeve.

"You think I'm joking? Vampires will take whatever they want. They will hurt whoever they want. And they'll do it without remorse. It's their nature" he tells her.

"That maybe true Ric, but she only just began training and is not ready for surprises yet" I remind him. Glad I dropped Amira off at Liz's.

"You don't have to use pronouns. You can say Stefan" Elena tells him.

"Look, I get why you're here. Stefan hurt you. You don't want it to happen again" he states.

"None of us do" I add.

"But you both think that I'm crazy. To believe that I can protect myself from a vampire who's flipped the switch on his humanity" she states.

"I don't, remember I died trying to protect Amira from Klaus. Stefan is easier to handle" I tell him.

"I think you found a way to get out of bed this morning. And that makes you the strongest person I know. I think that you can do pretty much anything like your aunt" Ric tells her. He gives her the sleeve with the stakes. She puts the sleeve back on.

"Well you two have to get to school and I have to go relieve Liz of baby sitting" I tell them. "Don't give up fighting Elena" I tell her and she nods her head. I go and collect Amira, thanking Liz for looking after her. I take Amira home. "Did you have fun with Aunt Liz?" I ask her.

"Yeah, we painted pretty pictures" she states. "When can I see Aunt Carol?" she asks.

"We're having dinner with her tonight while the others are at the falls for the annual bonfire" I tell her.

"Can't we go to the bonfire?" she asks me.

"No my little wolf, there'll be alcohol and drunk teenagers" I tell her.

"But my cousins get to go" she whines.

"So will you, when you're in high school" I assure her. "Besides, Aunt Carol is making brownies" I tell her.

"Brownies!" she cheers. "Double choc brownies?" she asks.

"Does she baked any other kind?" I ask her and she claps her hands happily. Carol knows about werewolves now. She found out the night I was taken by Klaus. She was shocked to find out that Amira has been doing it since she was a newborn. But it's great having two mums now in on the secret. Also I've joined the council to better protect Amira from being found out.

(Time skip)

I got a text from Elena. They are planning on taking Stefan down tonight at the bonfire and locking him up. I went to Carol's and I was going to the loo. When I heard Caroline and Tyler in the study. I frown, I thought they'd be helping with Stefan tonight.

"What is your problem today?" Tyler demands.

"My problem is you've been sired. Do you even know what that means? It means that you put Klaus' needs first. He is your master now" Caroline snaps. So glad I am not leaving Amira alone with him. Who knows what Klaus would have Tyler do.

"I'm not anyone's pet, Caroline. He doesn't control me" Tyler tells her.

"Well, something's got to be controlling you. Because I don't know why else you'd be acting like the old you" she tells him.

"The old me?" he asks her confused.

"Yeah. The old you. The pre-werewolf you. You know, the obnoxious you that I would never be friends with" she states.

"Whoa! Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I'm sorry. I don't want to be that guy. I hated that guy" he tells her.

"You're a vampire now, Tyler. Everything about your personality is heightened. So you have to be careful" she tells him.

"I will. I promise. Just. Don't hate me. Everything I like about me is you" he tells her and I leave. I go to the loo and go back downstairs. The rest of dinner went smoothly, then I took Amira home. I tucked Amira in and heard something downstairs. I frown and grab my bat.

I head downstairs, but no one was there. But there is a note on the counter top. "Dear Gin, please meet me at the Grill tomorrow morning with Amira. I want to see you both" it read and it was in Mason's handing writing. What the hell is going on? How could he be leaving me a note if he is dead? Something is wrong, very wrong. I go grab Amira from her room and hold her close all night. On high alert.
