Love Loss Found

I was never scared of the doctor's office. I never got why kids got so scared of going. Sure there were shots but they lasted about five seconds and all you have to do is not look if you don't like the image of needle going into skin. It was pointless really for me to be scared of doctors. Especially since I am now seeing one every week.

I was nineteen when the doctor's told me I had cancer, my sister and I took the news very hard. Since our parents died three years ago I'm all Anna has left and now I'm dying. Although I'm doing much better than most, I guess. The chemo has been keeping me alive these past two years and the doctor's say I'm getting better. I don't feel better though. The chemo makes me tired and nauseous, plus my hair is starting to thin.

When I found out about my cancer I decided I was going to do the things I always wanted to do. So far I have gone to a hockey game, taken art classes, gone bungee jumping, and ran a marathon.

I still had things on my list but i couldn't do much of it due to my cancer taking control. One thing not on my list was to fall in love. I already have to leave Anna, I don't want to leave anyone else behind. However life didn't have that in mind.

"Wanna go for ice cream after?" Anna asked me on the ride to the doctor's.

"Sure." I said.

"Has uhm you know anything changed?" She asked.

"No they say it hasn't spread but apparently I've stopped getting better now it's just 50/50."

"Well you'll get through it you're strong and stubborn enough." Anna said.

My sister was always the optimist,

"I'll pick you up soon." Anna said.

"Okay. See you later." I said.

I went into the doctor's office. The nurse took me into a room and said that the doctor was going to be a little late. So I just fiddled on my phone for a bit until I heard the door open.

I expected it, to be my doctor but instead was a young man with brown hair and brown ember eyes huffing for air. He closed the door behind him.

"Sorry....about......that.....it's an....emergency."

"What was it?" I asked.

"I almost got caught."

"Doing what?" I questioned.

"Hiding! Jamie loves playing hide and seek. But I'm winning."

I couldn't tell if this guy was crazy or not.

"I'm Jack Overland, medic student and volunteer." He said.

"Elsa Arendelle." I said

"Well Elsa Arendelle what do you like to do for fun?"

I honestly couldn't think of anything I did anymore. My life was just full of appointments, ice cream, talking to Anna, watching tv, and listening to music. Well I guess listening to music could be a hobby.

"I listen to music." I said.

"Really?! I would have never of guessed! Me too!" He said with enthusiasm. "What do you listen to?"

"I listen to Passenger, Arctic Monkeys, Christina Perri, and others."

"Hmm interesting I took you for a girl who listened to movie soundtracks."

"I actually do listen to movie soundtracks a lot. My favorite right now is the catching fire soundtrack."

"Very good choice I prefer Great Gatsby myself but we all have preferences."

The door opened and my doctor came in. "Jack!? What are you doing here?"

"Well Doctor I was just introducing myself to the Elsa Arendelle the music listener." Jack said.

"Well you better go because Jamie is starting to go insane looking for you and you know how his nurse doesn't like him getting too stressed."

"Yeah I better get the little guy, well it was nice meeting you Elsa I'll see you later." He said and left.

"Now Elsa I got your results back and it is good news!" Dr. Harris said.

"What's the good news? Has the cancer finally been killed with my sarcasm." I said.

"Well it's gotten much better.most of it is already gone in your system! If this new treatment keeps working then you should be cancer free in a few months!"

"That's great news doctor." I said sullenly.

"Elsa? I don't understand you should be very happy about this news."

"I would be Dr Harris but it's happened before. The cancer's almost gone and then whoosh it comes right back."

"Well leukemia is a very hard cancer to get rid of, but for now try and enjoy the good news."

"Yes doctor." I said.

Anna picked me up after my doctor's appointment and I told her the good news she was very happy but she knew this had happened before and tried not to be over the moon about it like she had the past two times.

"You should really start seeing other people Elsa."

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about making friends."

"I have you. What? Are you getting sick of me already?"

"Of course not. I'm just saying it may be good to get out and not sit in your room and watch reruns of criminal minds."

"Hey that show is very interesting and makes me think." I said. "And anyway I already met someone today."

"What? Who?! And don't say it's a new nurse."

"Well technically he is not a nurse he's a volunteer, his name is Jack and he's in medical school." I said.

"Oooh is he cute."

"Anna!"

"Oh that means he is." Anna smiled.

"Okay first off it doesn't second of all it doesn't matter if he's cute I'm not getting involved."

"Why?!"

"Because Anna I have cancer and I don't really want to make friends at the moment."

"You could make more than friends." Anna wiggled her eyebrows.

"No, especially not more than friends."

"Hey it's Elsa Arendelle what a surprise finding you here eating ice cream with your friend." Jack said coming up to us.

"Well it is the hospitals cafeteria and you do volunteer at a hospital Jack."

"Oh so this is Jack." Anna said.

"Oh so you've been talking about me I see." Jack smiled.

"I was just telling my sister Anna of my day and you happened to be in it."

"Well I'm glad my presence was acknowledged in your daily conversation." Jack said.

"I'm going to go wait in the car."

"Anna!"

"Bye Elsa....nice meeting you Jack." Anna rushed outside.

"Well I better be going too." I said.

"You're going to leave me all by myself in this cafeteria! That's pretty impolite Elsa."

"Listen Jack you seem like a very nice guy but I'm not in a position to be making friends."

"Well why not? You seem like a nice person. A little quiet but I think with a little time and effort I could get you talking."

"Jack I have cancer."

"I kind of suspected that since you were in the chemo unit." He said

"That means I can't make friends or anything else okay."

"Okay, but I'm pretty determined you'd be surprised."

"Jack...."

"I'll see you next time Elsa." Jack said leaving me be.

"Goodbye." I said and walked to the car.

Next week at the doctor's

Jack can running in like he had last week we met.

"Jamie again?" I asked.

"Nope I just came in to see you." He said.

"Jack..."

"Elsa.....there is nothing you could say to get me to leave."

"Why do you care anyway?" I asked him.

"Because I think you're an interesting person and I would like to get to know you."

"Jack I'm going to die...."

"We all are eventually..... I just prefer to live my life helping and making as many good friendships as I can."

"We have different goals then."

"I'm here every week Elsa I can do this forever popping in on you, it would be much more fun if you were conversing with me rather than arguing with me." Jack said.

I sighed "you're not going to stop running in here are you."

"Nope not unless my legs get chopped off then I would have to crawl."

I smiled

"Your first smile and it's me telling you about crawling with no legs that's pretty dark Elsa."

The months went by and Jack became my friend. I have to admit I enjoyed his company. He told me jokes and stories about med school I told him about books I liked and shows I watched. I even got him hooked on criminal minds. I started falling for him slowly, but I knew I shouldn't so to get these feelings out I put it in a creative outlet. Writing. I wrote him letters for when I would be gone.

"Jack it's starting!!!" I yelled.

"I'm getting your popcorn, hold on."

"But you're going to miss the beginning quote!!!"

"No I won't. Calm down," he said sitting next to me on the couch.

"Popcorn please." I said.

"As you wish." He said giving me the popcorn.

"What are you writing on?" He asked.

"It's my list."

"You're what?"

"My list of things I would like to do."

"May I?" He asked.

"Sure." I passed him my list.

"Learn to play piano, Eat at an expensive restaurant, See Anna at her graduation. These are very subtle things Elsa."

"What does that mean?"

"I'm just saying where's the extremes like skydiving or bungee jumping."

"I don't like extremes. They don't seem fun they seem reckless."

"But Elsa you're bucket list just doesn't suit the predictable bucket list." Jack said.

"Well accept the graduation one but I think that's rather sweet." Jack said.

"Thank you."

Jack turned the list around.

"No Jack don't!"

"What is this a secret section! I knew you were holding back on me."

"Don't Jack." I said.

"What? You let me look at everything else what's so bad about.... " He looked down and ceased to talk as he read the line.

Give Jack the letters and tell him you know what.

I snatched the list back from him.

He looked at me.

I didn't know what to expect. Would he be upset? Would he be scared

"What letters Elsa." He asked seriously.

"Jack..."

"Elsa please what letters. Tell me what."

"Letters for when I'm gone. I wrote them to you to tell you everything I shouldn't."

"What would that be?"

"It's in the letters."

"Elsa...."

"It's about how happy you've made me these past months. Jack you've meant so much to me. And I just can't tell you right now because it will make all this so much harder."

"Im in love with you."

"What?" I said

"I'm telling you what you want to tell me. So I thought I should say it first so maybe you might say it back. I love you Elsa Arendelle and everything else doesn't matter."

"But it does Jack."

"No it doesn't. Sorry Elsa but you're stuck with me whether you like it or not," he said

I saw something in him that day. The way he looked at me. It wasn't pity, or sadness, it was love and hope. I just couldn't help myself and I kissed him right there on my couch. His lips felt soft as I felt him return the kiss. My head kept screaming stop what are you doing this is going to end badly! But my heart didn't care.

We began to date even though I knew we shouldn't but it was already too late. I was in love with him. He made me happy and somehow I seemed to make him happy. Even on my worst days he was able to make it up to me on the next when I was feeling better. He took me to doctor's appointments with Anna, and he always called to say goodnight. It was a long hard yet yet lovely year. Then before I knew it, I was in a hospital bed.

My cancer had spread to my bones and it was everywhere. I was put into extreme medical care. My hair was now just above my shoulder. I was feeling incredibly weak. Anna and Jack took turns visiting.

"Do you have any aces?" Jack asked holding his deck of cards.

"Jack?"

"Yeah Elsa?"

"I need you to reach down under my bed. There's something for you." I replied.

He looked down and picked up what was under my bed. In his hand were a stack of letters I had written to him and Anna.

"Some are for Anna would you make sure she gets them."

"You can give them to her she'll like it more coming from you." He said.

"Jack.....I don't think I'm going to make it that long,"

"Hey don't say that, sure you're in a tough spot right now but you'll get through this I know it." He said.

"Jack I need you to listen to me. This past year with you has been one of the best years of my life cancer appointments and all. I love you so much and I'm so sorry I have to leave you and Anna. But I want you to know that I believe in you. No matter what happens after today you have to promise me you'll finish med school and become the greatest doctor this world has ever seen because I know you can. Most importantly I want you to live your life." I said taking his hand.

He gripped my hand and began tearing up "I'm never going to find anyone like you Elsa Arendelle."

"You'll find someone better." I joked.

"Impossible." He said.

"Take care of Anna for me, okay?"

"I promise."

"Jack?"

"Yes."

"Could you lie down with me?"

"Sure." He said and cuddled against me. I fell asleep in his arms.

I died the following morning. I woke up outside my body to see tons of nurses rushing around and finally hearing the heart monitor go.

It was a little creepy seeing myself dead. Then I saw this light. Who knew heaven was real? Maybe it just real for me. Who knows I could be in a long dream for all I know.

What I do know is that Jack and Anna lived their life to the fullest. Anna became a teacher and married a man named Kristoff who worked in construction. Jack become a surgeon and a very successful one at that. Him and Anna also created the Elsa foundation. It's a foundation for cancer research especially leukemia. I was honored.

Jack was the one who joined me first. I remember seeing him sleep as an old man in his bed drifting up to where I was. I saw him at the gate and as he stepped through he became the young man I remembered all those years ago.

"You really know how to keep a girl waiting. Jack."

"Well you were the one who told me to live out my life that usually takes a while." He said. "God I missed you Elsa." He took me in an embrace and held me close.

"I missed you too." I said.

"I have to ask something very important."

"What?" I ask.

"Do they have criminal minds in heaven?" He asked.

I laughed "It's our heaven so we get have whatever we want."

"I like the sound of that"

Authors note: OMG this was really sad!!! Ugh I'm glad I made it a little more uplifting at the end thanks so much to niallhoranlovesme943 for the request and I hoped you all liked it! Please comment and vote!
