4 Retrieving Edgar

Blue eyes slowly slugged open. Jack gazed around the room for a moment, recalling yesterday. He followed Felix around for hours after he made his comment at the little restaurant. Then last night, as soon as they stepped through the door, Felix jumped on him.

J: "Ugh..."
He groaned, lifting himself from the bed. Luckily his suitcase was in the room. Felix must've brought it in here. He stood, immediately grabbing his hips. Pain was shooting through him, almost enough to make him fall.

No no, walk it off. Jack thought to himself, and rummaged through his suitcase to get some clothes. Thankfully the door was quiet as it opened. Jack slowly crossed the hallway and trailed into the bathroom. He took a shower, got dressed, put his clothes away, then slowly walked towards the kitchen.

J: "Felix?"

Jack asked, catching light blue eyes in the corner of the fridge.

F: "Good morning! Want some breakfast or are you feeling sick?"

Well he's certainly cheerful..

J: "I could eat."

Felix nods, and prepares them both breakfast.

F: "I've gotta go pick up my dog today. You wanna come?"

Jack wanted to ask where the dogs were, and where Marzia was, but he didn't want to come off as rude.

J: "Do you want me to come?"

Felix grinned, chuckling at the smaller mans response.

F: "Yeah, actually I do."

J: "Then I'll go."

He stated firmly, sitting at the table. The two sat quietly, ate, and then headed to Felix's car. Where they were going, Jack had no idea.
They pulled into the driveway of a small house, where boxes and moving containers were all in the backyard. Felix exits the car, but Jack stays put, mostly because he had no idea what was going on.

He watched as Marzia brought out a dog carrier. Felix and Marzia said a few words, then walked away from each other as if they were strangers.
Felix put the dog carrier in the backseat, strapped it in, then got into the front seat to drive.

J: "So you picked up Edgar?"

Jack asked as Felix backed out of the driveway.

F: "Yeah, I let her keep him for a while before she went back to Italy. The other pug was more Marzias, and Edgar was more like mine. That's just how we decided anyway. I'm happy I guess. Edgar has always been with me more."

J: "Ok.."

The rest of the drive was quiet. Once they arrived back at Felix's place, they let Edgar out to roam around the house and Jack followed the dog to the living room.

J: "Edgar!"
Jack said cheerfully, plopping down on the sofa. The black pug wiggled and jumped right into his lap. Jack gently moved his hand along Edgar's head and back.

F: "He's always liked you for some reason."

Jack just smiled over at Felix, who was leaned against the wall.
Jack has always liked animals. They were so sweet and so innocent. What's not to love?

F: "You ever thought about getting a dog?"

J: "I would, but I'd end up leavin' the dog alone when I'd leave Ireland."

F: "Yeah, we had the fear too, but now we just drop the dogs off at the pet sitter. She's really good and has a perfect review."

J: "Let me guess, Marzias idea right?"

Felix's smile dropped.

F: "Yeah, it was."

Jack was silent after that. Maybe he said a little too much. Edgar jumped down, and trailed off to find his food bowl.
Felix walked over, and sat beside Jack, propping his arms back onto the sofa arm.

F: "We had a disagreement. Most times it's over nothing. I think this time it was over nothing..but in the end she asked me why."

J: "Why?"

F: "Why I'm so alone."

Wow..that's deep. Felix never seemed alone. There was always someone around, or so it seemed.

F: "I've always been a distant person. I really had no direction or purpose in life until I made my YouTube channel. Only after I made my channel did I get fans and friends, hell I even met Marzia because of my channel. Even after I found all these things I'd been missing, I still locked myself in the room and tried to ignore it all."

J: "Because you were afraid of getting used to not being alone."

Felix stared up at his friend, blue eyes more observant than before.

F: "Yeah. How'd you know that?"

J: "I used to do the same exact thing. That's how I lost my girlfriend. The distance made it hard enough, but I just didn't try hard enough I guess. I like to think it happened for a reason though. What do you thi-"

Before Jack could finish, Felix grabbed the back of his head, turned him, and kissed him. It only lasted a few seconds, but it was enough to make Jack lose all train of thought. Felix let go of him, letting him lean back a bit.

F: "I think everything's happened for a reason. If you're not careful, I'm gonna start thinking that reason is you Sean."

What is that supposed to mean? Must be something good because Felix has the best smile on his face.
