2:17 a.m.

Thomas was laying on his bed with the rain pouring outside his window and he was being unable to sleep. His thoughts were making impossible for him to fall asleep.

He sighed as he sat down on his bed and sighed. He brushed his eyes and lay his head on his palms and before listening to a rumble of thunder, making him flinch lightly before chuckling at his reaction. He was old enough to not be scared of thunderstorms anymore, he wasn't the same scary cat boy he was as a kid.

Thomas was the third and only son of Peter and Martha Jefferson, he was a small, quiet, shy boy. His older sisters liked to play with him with their dolls and practice some small plays that they performed in front of their parents once his father returned back from work during the summers.

When he started going to class, it was a surprise discovering that he has dyslexia. He got really nervous if he had to read out loud, so one of his classmates decided to help him out.

That's how he met the soon to be his best friend: James Madison.

James and he turned into friends really quick. James was one of the smartest boys in their class, and Thomas was thankful for that since that meant he could spend a lot of time with him after school to help him with their homework.

They grow closer over the following years, they managed to be on the same school mostly because Martha's didn't want to separate them since they were that close. In Thomas' words, James was "the brother he never had".

When James moved to study in Princeton, he was the one who dropped him at the airport. After college, Thomas moved to Paris for a while, working as a translator on a company before being hired on another company in New York.

This time, James was the one who went to pick him up at the airport. It was warm welcoming, though, they chatted every day, sometimes using Skype to have some video calls, mostly on weekends.

Four years later, Thomas was now laying on his bed, having a debate with himself about something he tried to avoid: feelings.

Thomas had problems dealing with his feelings since middle school when other boys started to make fun of him for being too "sensitive". He tried to not let his feelings controlled his actions, using his skills in theater, poetry and natural charm to make everyone else believe that he didn't have any problem with them

However, he couldn't pretend when he was alone. And lately, one particular problem was on his mind after he saw something by accident when he was at work.

It was a normal day, another boring day at their office. He was going to get a coffee when he saw Alexander in the lunch room sharing a kiss with another coworker, John Laurens. He was about to start a fight when a comment made by Laurens caught him under guard:

"Thomas, at least he can do something you can't", John said looking at him with a raised eyebrow.

"Ah, yeah? What is it?"

"Deal with the feelings he had for me, admitted and be brave enough to say it, instead of pretending that they do not exist"

For the rest of the week, he avoided both, calling in sick that day due to a massive headache. He thanked that it was Friday, but James called him to make sure he was fine. He couldn't lie to him and say that he needed some time for him, that he'll be back on Monday and that he didn't have to worry about him. James just told him that if he needed something he was there for him, just as always.

Thomas threw himself so he was looking at the ceiling with his arms extended and sighed heavily, thinking about how he felt when he was around James.

He realized that since high school, he felt something special for him, and knew that it wasn't just "brotherly love". No, no, no, no, no, this wasn't that kind of love.

He felt something different, something that was weird for him and tried to recall any other time he felt like that and only found one particular experience with a girl who he dated when he was on college and broke before he graduated. That break up left him depressed enough to James to take a semester off (Thomas later found out that James left it because he had a pretty bad meltdown, but he went to be there for his friend) and helping cope with the new pain he was feeling.

James, the first friend he ever made and helped him with his learning struggles. The same James that was there for him when they found that her mother had cancer and was there when she passed out when he was thirteen. The same that supported his decision of taking theater in high school and went to every show. The one who declined his spot as the one who would say the graduation speech, despite being the first on his classes, and let Thomas did it instead. The same James who drove for hours when he heard that Thomas' biggest sister had died on an accident and went so Thomas could have a shoulder where he could cry.

The same James Madison Jr. who grew up with, that knew him just as the palm of his hand, that was there for him whenever Thomas needed him, the same one who no matter the circumstances, the distance or the time, was always there for him.

Thomas jolted as the realization hit him: James loved him.

He knew that something was weird in their relationship, especially during the time he was dated that girl. He felt James acted weird every time he talked about her and how he felt with her.

The hours passed and it was almost sunrise when Thomas' head felt better once he came to terms with the fact he felt the same for him.

The rain stopped at some moment during the morning and he was sitting on the fire exit feeling the cold air on his skin as his heartfelt warm like the coffee he was sipping as he planned a way to tell him James the truth.

"Next Monday I'll go to James' office and be honest with him. I'm scared, but I know that I might be right. I'll bring him his favorite ice cream (another thing he shared with him was their love for ice cream) and if I'm right, I'll be dating him in a couple of days, maybe move together, marry him, and adopt a kid!"

Thomas went to bed with a big smile on his face, finally being able to sleep without the worrying urge to pick his masc the next day.

//A busy Saturday, but here's my first day. Do not expect all the chapters to be this long because I'll be busy all month with two different courses to get into college.

Tell me what you think, I read all the comments.

See you in a couple of hours with the next chapter.
