[Chapter Three] Jane The Not-Exactly Killer Part II

A few weeks passed, and the month became colder. The rumour of Jeff traveled fast, just as I predicted. It was coincidental how I kept witnessing the truth. However, I decided not to tell anyone, I'm secretive.

After school one night, Jeff's parents appeared at our doorstep, my mom opened the door.

"Mrs. Woods! What a surprise, what can I do for you?" my mother smiled.

Jeff's mother smiled in return, "I'd like to invite you to dinner at our place. Jeff will be released from the hospital tomorrow, and I haven't had a chance to properly thank Jane." she explained, looking up at me on the second floor, as I silently listening to their conversation.

My mother accepted, and I guess I should've been happy. I had an odd feeling though.

Probably just my imagination.

Next night came quickly, and I came home from school to an empty house. Strange... I went over to the kitchen to see a note, in messy handwriting. It read, "What are you doing, Jane? Your family is already here. -Jeff"

I looked out the window. I saw the lights to Mrs. Wood's house on and a bunch of figure's seated at the table. What gave me chills was they weren't moving. I grabbed the largest kitchen knife I could find, and walked over to the house. This bad feeling was becoming a reality, I could feel it.

I didn't bother knocking, and I opened the door. The house was filled with a rotting smell, I almost puked.

"Jane! I thought you'd never come!" a voice sounded from behind me, I quickly turned around, holding my knife up.

What I saw was creepy beyond my imagination. A boy with no eye-lids, white skin, and a mouth with a smile carved on its flesh. I almost screamed, but he stopped me.

His grimy flesh was clamped over my mouth as he whispered, "Shhshhshh, Jane. You wouldn't want to interrupt their dinner, would you?"

It was then I realized this monster was Jeffrey Woods, the boy I had 'saved'.

What happened to him?

Jeff released his grip, and I walked into the dining room. The sight almost made me break down right then and there. It was horrible. My parents were sitting motionlessly in their chairs, multiple stab wounds in their chest area. They had carved smiles decorating their faces, and Jeff's parents were the same way.

Jeff came up behind me, "Sit down, sit down! Let's not be rude, now." he snickered, pulling out a chair for me to sit on. I didn't move, I just felt the tears in my eyes overflowing. He pushed me into the chair and looked at me.

"Why are you so sad?" he asked, scanning me up and down.

Jeff pretended to think for a moment then exclaimed, "I know! You want to be beautiful too, Jane?" he suddenly said.

My eyes widened, and I tightened the grip on my knife, "No." I said in an angry tone.

Jeff just laughed in response, "Okay, Jane! Wait here!"

I didn't wait, I got up and lunged at him. He also took out his knife, snickering. The metal collided, I nicked his face, and he nicked my arm.

He laughed even harder, "You're in such a rush to be beautiful!" he shouted, slashing my arm.

I grimaced, but said nothing. I wanted revenge, I wanted him dead. I angrily went right for his chest, but he deflected my strike, pinning me down. He traced the knife up my body, but he did this lightly so he wouldn't leave a mark.

He stopped at my face, "Smile for me, Jane."

I didn't.

That's when I regretted my decision, he started to carve a smile, slicing at my flesh. It hurt so much. I tried to move, but he was too strong. When he was finished, he got up, and I was still screaming in pain.

"Now you can smile forever!" Jeff laughed, taking out a carton of some sort.

Before I knew it, I was covered in a smelly liquid.

He lit a match above me, "Your makeover is almost complete! I called the police already, don't worry." and he dropped the match.

I watched as that little match was dropped. My life flashed before my eyes, but only one question remained, "Why is he doing this?"

And then the flame hit me. Fire. So much fire. I screamed, I screamed till I couldn't scream anymore. I saw Jeff with a smug smile on his face as he looked at me like I was his personal campfire.

I thought I was about to die, when I saw a light. An image of my family sitting around the table. I was laughing happily. With all my strength, I outstretched my hand towards it, and I felt everything around me stretch and turn.

It was then that I realized the scene around me had changed. My injuries didn't hurt, but the smile and leathery skin were still there. I was at my own home. I checked the calender, it was Saturday morning, 8:30AM. Right before the birthday party.

I realized what happened, I realized what I was given.

A second chance.

(A/N Alright, so now you know Jane's story. Well, tweaked a bit... This chapter is a tad short, I apologize! >.<)
