[Chapter Seven] I'm Still Here
He just stood there, arms crossed with a smug smile planted over his face. I didn't know what to do, or what to say. One way or another he was going to make me kill, or he'd do it himself.
I then asked him, "How are you here when Jane and I changed the future?" my voice echoing through the eerily silent house.
He gave me a cheshire grin, I didn't know how wide he could smile, but it was starting to creep me out, "I'm still here, because at one point in time, you still turn into me!" he laughed, pointing his pale finger me.
I groaned in disappointment, I thought I was in the clear for the rest of my life, with no risk of turning into... him. I looked down at Jane who was weakly listening to our conversation. She gave me a weak smile to comfort me. She looked an awful lot like me when I was about to die.
As she smiled, I saw a sneaker come crashing down on her head, followed by Jeff's maniacal laugh. I screamed, falling backwards. My scream sounded an awful lot like a girl, but besides the point. The future me rested a foot on her head, looking down at me with interest.
With a wild expression, he paused, "Aren't you going to save her?" he cackled, pressing his shoe deeper into her skin.
Jane let out a weakened yelp, and I tackled him to the ground. I angrily punched him, right in the side of the face. He grinned at me, but that only egged me on. I punched him again, and again, and again. I lost count of how many times I punched him, but my knuckles were red. I felt no pain. I was just so angry.
"Nice punches, kid!" he said, giving me a thumbs up.
I was seething with rage now. He acted unharmed, but I could see the sides of his face were turning purple. He pushed me to the side, and reached for the knife in his pocket. I realized that my killing intent was at its peak, and I had to take deep breaths to relax myself. All I could hear in my head was kill kill kill kill kill.
Future Jeff's voice cut in, "You know... I think I'll cut Jane's face- to make her pretty again!" he smiled, twirling the knife in his fingers.
I grit my teeth, standing in his way, "I don't think so." my voice deadly.
He looked at me with annoyance, but as he was about to hit me, we heard footsteps approaching the house. It was about time.
He clicked his tongue in annoyance, "Next time, kid." then jumped out the broken window, not turning back.
I let out a sigh of relief, falling back into my puddle of blood as my parents entered the house with several officers. I could hear the wailing of the sirens and worried cries of my parents. They were towering over me, examining me. I blinked a few times, but realized my vision was darkening. I reached a hand towards my mom, but then blacked out.
The next time I woke up, I was in a secluded room, a bunch of bouquets were placed next to my bed and I saw the heart monitor next to me. It looked steady, so my body relaxed. It seemed like I was in a hospital room, the white floors and walls and the smell of sanitization was everywhere. I saw a note from my whole class, and some cards from my friends. Yes... I had friends.
One of them read, "Get well soon! If you're reading this then don't forget to call us! -Jack"
I smiled weakly, which probably didn't look like a smile at all. I then overheard some voices. One was my mom, and the other was a deeper voice.
"He suffered a stab to the chest, just missing his heart. He healed at a miraculous rate, but the girl might not be so lucky." the older man, which I'm assuming was the doctor said quietly.
Upon hearing this, I lifted up my shirt to see the wound stitched up, with it pretty much healed up. I didn't feel any pain when I moved, too. I shivered at how close the stitches were to my heart.
I put my shirt down and heard them speak again, "How bad is she?" my mom asked in a worried tone.
"She took a blow to the back of her neck, she might be in a wheelchair for the rest of her... life." he sighed.
I heard my mom gasp, then their voices became less and less audible.
I rested my head on the fluffy pillow, then stared up at the ceiling. What was I going to do? I shrunk deeper in the blankets, and sighed in frustration.
"Anyone home? Hey!" a voice I didn't want to hear rung through the room.
I groaned, glaring at the person that was now sitting on the window ledge. He fiddled with his knife, and smiled when he noticed I had looked up at him.
"Go away." I said bluntly, taking the sheets and pulling them over my head.
He laughed at that, and may I comment on his laugh. It was high, and shrill and it hurt my ears. A crazy laugh, and annoying. I could make it into a remix.
"I'll go away if you just do me a favor!" he said, kicking his muddy shoes against the wall.
"No. I will not kill anyone." I replied already knowing his demands, still underneath the covers of my bed.
I didn't have to fear him now, because if he killed me; he'd die. I'm Captain Obvious, just pointing it out.
"Sure, you won't kill anyone. But, I can!" he countered, and I looked at him with sudden realization.
Even if I did nothing, Jeff could do all the dirty work. My parents and friends were in danger!
I furrowed my brows, "What... kind of favor?" I asked quietly.
He smiled, then used his thumb to point at himself, "I'll follow you around tomorrow. You won't even know I'm there!" he cheered, then gave me a dark grin.
I glared at him, "I'm sure I'll know you're there."
It wouldn't be that simple. He wanted to follow me around. That, by itself was suspicious. I guess I'll have to oblige though, since he won't take no for an answer.
I just nodded in response, and he left as fast as he came.
"Right! I'll catch you tomorrow, then." and he pretended to fall out the window.
I rushed to the windowsill to see him quickly scaling down the building. What the heck, he climbed three stories? He was quick, and didn't falter as he climbed down. He reached the bottom of the building, his shoes planting firmly on the ground. As if knowing I was watching him, he looked up and waved his hands. I ignored his gesture, and closed the blinds.
I sat there in confusion. I was just so puzzled, and I didn't know what to do. Deciding I'd had enough of this future stuff, I decided to go back to sleep and read some of the notes my friends had left behind.
You can read these, or not. Just a filler.
It read in nice, bubbly printing,
Hi Jeff!
I heard some bad stuff happened, are you okay? Our project at school was given 100%! You're too smart, man! Thanks for being my partner.
-Emily
I smiled at this. Emily wasn't a bad partner since she was friendly and easy to work with. Besides her laid back attitude, and obsession with her phone... She was pretty cute, among her, Jane and Arisa. She was the friendliest. I was then reminded of Jane, I sure hope she's okay. I picked up another paper that was written on rough lined paper.
Sup dude,
You missed the school dance! That girl, Teshawna was so disappointed. Playing hard to get? Just kidding. Get well soon bro, I'll see you later!
-Ban
Oh god, Teshawna. She was obsessed. Apparently because I said, "Sure, we can be friends!" she's convinced we are 'soul mates' for eternity. I shivered. I picked up another card that looked like it was made by my whole english class.
"Get Well Soon, Jeff! We Miss You!" it read in big, sparkly letters. Everyone wrote their own personal notes, and drawings on the paper. I grinned, and put the card down next to me.
I'm glad I have so many good friends, and then I felt myself drifting off to sleep.
(A/N And I'm glad I'm going to kill them all. ...Just kidding. Or am I?)
