A Rough Beginning
It was just another day on Naboo. Friday, the end of the week at school. But today hadn't been a particularly great day for Omega.
"Ugh! I thought today was never going to end!" Omega said, angrily throwing her backpack to the floor.
It seemed like all day, poor Omega was cursed with bad luck. First, Wrecker ate the last strawberry danish at breakfast that morning before Omega could have any, then she bumped into her father as he was getting a second cup of coffee and the hot liquid not only left a nasty burn on her chest, but it also ruined her favorite jacket, and she had to wear a really itchy sweater she hated, which her grandmother Jobal made for her. Then, it started to rain during recess, and the teacher gave a pop quiz on fractions, which Omega hated big time. And then, she went to the engineering club meeting, which was not only cancelled at the last minute, but one of the second graders was recklessly kicking a soccer ball into the classroom and knocked down a robot Omega had worked on for weeks and broke it.
As you can probably imagine, Omega came home very frustrated. She cried out in frustration and had an explosion of light burst in the room.
"Whoa, Sunshine." Anakin said. "What's got you burning?"
"The worst day...ugh... ever!" Omega grumbled, trying to get the ugly, itchy sweater off. "And this stupid sweater is giving me a rash!"
As she struggled to take off the itchy sweater, Omega started shouting in Spanish about how nothing was going her way today.
"Hold still, Megs." Anakin said, helping his daughter get the sweater off. But he had to pull really hard. "Hmm. I wonder if Jobal forgot to test the material before making the sweater."
"Ugh! I hate that sweater, even when I'm not having a bad day." Omega said, relieved that the itching stop.
"At least it's over now," said Gabby, walking with her sister. "And Grandma Shmi says she's cooking bantha stew for dinner tonight."
That actually did sound good. Omega loved bantha stew since the first time her father made it for her one night. And the end of a bad day was usually when things started to turn up. But dinner wasn't for a couple of hours, so Omega decided to go find Estrella and go for a ride.
Omega took the sweater and threw it into the trash, and went to look for Estrella. A ride usually helped her feel much better. Except, when she got to the stables, she found a note by Estrella's stall.
Dear Omega,
I am sorry to leave so quickly today. My cousin Chancla is having a quinceañera soon, and there was a last-minute mix-up with the decorations. I will be away for a few days to help her and attend the event. I will make sure to bring you back a piece of pastel when I come back. Love, Estrella.
"Now I can't even turn to Estrella today." Omega sighed.
Omega just went walking through the halls of the castle and spotted her clone brothers and her adoptive siblings up to their own things.
Tech was helping Teatra rehearse a script for an audition.
"I still don't understand how these two could jump into marriage without considering the consequences." Tech said, looking at a summary of the play Teatra was working on.
"It's an old classic, Tech. Fictional stories are meant to be creative, you know."
Crosshair was standing in the hall, when Maybelle jumped him and started licking him.
"Maybelle! Pleh!" Crosshair spat and sputtered. "Yuck! I thought we talked about this!"
"Have a heart, Crosshair. You know I just love you." Maybelle said, licking her rider again.
All the other adults were busy too. Too busy to spend time with the kids.
Ms. Susy was with Caroline, knitting some pink and blue booties for Lamenta's future baby brother or sister. Padme was in the nursery with the baby twins crawling around, and Carmine was working on a new song.
Omega got bored and decided maybe it was a good time to practice her archery. Except, she found her crossbow was missing, as Kara had taken it to get it fixed. And with Kara out of the palace...
Diamond walked into Omega's room as she was reading a book, finding nothing else to do.
"Omega, will you play with me?" asked the jewel pegasus.
Omega looked at the little jewel pegasus and smiled saying she'd be happy to spend some time with her. So, Diamond and Omega started to play a game of Hide and Seek. Diamond hid first.
"Eighteen...nineteen, twenty! Ready or not, here I come!" Omega shouted and uncovered her eyes.
Omega looked all around the palace, but didn't see Diamond anywhere. So, she went outside to look for her, where she found Qui-Gon helping Echo look at the Marauder.
It was a little windy outside today, and Omega started to feel cold.
"Grandpa, Echo, have either of you seen Diamond anywhere?" Omega asked.
"Can't say I have." Echo said.
The wind seemed to get a little stronger all of a sudden. Very strong, actually. Qui-Gon picked himself up as his hair started to blow into his face.
"It feels like a storm is brewing." Qui-Gon said loudly as the wind started to get louder.
And just then, the wind got even stronger.
"We best get inside before this wind gets any stronger." Echo said.
"Come on, Omega. Let's get inside." Qui-Gon said, taking Omega's hand.
But just as the humans were about to go inside, they heard a young voice calling for help.
"Omega!" Diamond's voice called from the Marauder.
"Diamond?!" Omega panicked.
"My tail is stuck! I can't get out!"
Quickly, Omega ran back to the Marauder to help Diamond to her grandfather's objections to her going out in the storm herself.
Omega got to Diamond and started to get her unstuck. But the wind outside was getting even stronger! It got stronger and stronger, and it seemed to be coming from all directions. In fact... a tornado was outside, and it started coming right toward the palace.
Omega rushed to get Diamond unstuck, but by the time she had, the Marauder started to lift up into the air. The controls were not even on, so there was only one other explanation.
"OMEGA!" Qui-Gon shouted.
Omega and Diamond tried to get out of the Marauder to get to safety, but the door shut with the wind.
"Grandpa!" Omega exclaimed as the door slammed shut with her and Diamond still on the ship.
The Marauder began to spin all around like crazy, both the human girl and the pegasus filly screaming as they were thrown and jerked around the ship. The two of them tried to hold onto something, anything.
Omega tried to turn the ship on so she could steer it back home, but the controls were unresponsive!
"Nothing's working!" Omega panicked.
Unfortunately, that was also when the collision alarms started to go off, and a red light began flashing in the ship.
"We're gonna crash!" Diamond screamed.
"Hang on!"
The spinning continued on and on until the two girls found themselves overcome by dizziness and exhaustion, and both of them collapsed.
