Once Upon a Time
Wintertime was finally here! Which meant the holidays were coming soon, namely the most wonderful time of the year!
Everyone had their own favorite things about each season all year. Some liked to watch flowers blooming and jump in puddles from the rain in the spring. Others like to get tan or surf at the beach in the hot summer, and what kid doesn't love to jump in piles of leaves in the autumn? But if there's one thing that nearly everyone loves in the wintertime, it's... snow!
At breakfast that morning, everyone sat at the table as the sweet smell of freshly made waffles filled the air. If there was one thing the children loved, it was having a sweet something for breakfast. Mona was no exception. Having been denied real food most of her life (mostly being fed bland rice and water), she welcomed the tastes of so many different kinds of food, and sweet stuff was what she loved most.
After breakfast, Omega caught a glimpse of the outside through the window.
"Hey, everyone! It's snowing!" Omega exclaimed.
The other kids got excited, but Mona was confused.
"Snow?" Mona asked. "What's that?"
"You've never heard of snow?" Gabby gasped.
Mona shook her head.
Having been trapped indoors all her life, never once being outside, Mona didn't even know what sunlight felt like until Hunter rescued her, and then she experienced rain and cloudy days. But snow... that was entirely new to her.
"Mommy, can we go outside so Mona can see the snow?"
"Not until all of you get into some warm clothes." Padme said. "We don't want anyone catching a cold."
So, the kids quickly got into some warm clothes. Mariposa got Mona into some warm snow pants, mittens, a toasty parka, and of course a nice hat and scarf she knitted. She didn't neglect to get her some winter boots too.
"Why do I have to wear all this stuff?" Mona asked.
"Snow is very cold, Mona." Mariposa said. "Do you remember when you went into the freezer, looking for orange freezy pops?"
Mona shivered at that memory.
"Well, being in the snow is kind of like being in the freezer, only outdoors, and without bags of frozen veggies or ice cream."
"And snow, you can actually play with it." Lamenta said. "Come on!"

The kids were all so excited to play in the snow today, and so was Wrecker. The Batch didn't see snow very often, so they didn't hesitate to go out too.
Omega and Lamenta made some snow angels in the ground while Gabby and Boba were rolling up some snow and gathering sticks and rocks they found.
Goldie caught a snowflake on her tongue and found that it tickled. She'd never seen snow either; having grown up in a temperate climate, it never snowed where she lived before. Mona looked around at the snowflakes as they fell. Hunter lifted her up so she could get a better view.
Mona caught a snowflake on the palm of her mitten and looked closely at it. It looked so pretty. Like a tiny star.
"Are these stars?" Mona gasped.
"No, those are snowflakes." Hunter said. "But they do kinda look like stars up close."
Mona looked at Boba and Gabby as the former was placing a ball of snow on top of a larger ball of snow.
"What are Gabby and Boba doing?"
"Why don't you ask them?"
"We're building a snowman," said Gabby. "It's really fun."
Boba lifted Gabby up so she could put the carrot on the snowman's face.
"You can build stuff with snow?"
"Yeah," said Boba. "It's just like building sandcastles at the beach, only with really cold and wet sand that falls from the sky."
"Plus, here's one thing you can do with snow you can't do with sand."
Gabby picked up some snow and looked mischievous as she made it into a ball and looked at where Anakin was showing the babies the snow. She aimed carefully and... threw!
Anakin got a snowball to the head that caught him by surprise and had Luke and Leia giggling.
"Got you, Daddy!" Gabby teased.
"You think that's funny, huh?" Anakin scooped up some snow and tried to strike back, but Gabby ducked, and Boba got hit instead.
Boba threw and hit Omega, then one throw led to another and before they knew it, there was an all out...
"SNOWBALL FIGHT!" Wrecker shouted.
Snowballs were flying all over the place. At first, Mona was scared, but then she realized this was actually a battle that was fun, like a pillow fight, but with snow. The kids played all morning until their parents said it was time to head back inside.

The kids were reluctant to leave the fun snow, but there was one thing that was always great to look forward to after a snow day. Hot chocolate.
Who doesn't love a good cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter's night, especially dressed with mini marshmallows, whipped cream and sprinkles or chocolate shavings.
"Yummy!" Mona licked some whipped cream off her lip.
Mona was definitely in love when she tried hot cocoa for the first time.
Snow was still falling outside, and now the family was gathered around the fireplace to warm up after a cold winter playdate.
R2 beeped as the babies were falling asleep in their parents' arms.
"I know, R2. This time of year has a way of tiring the little ones out." Anakin said quietly, wrapping the blanket a little tighter around Luke.
Gathering around the fireplace, it was one of the warmest scenes there was, and not because of the fire. But there was one thing that made gathering around the fireplace even better.
Qui-Gon saw that the kids were all gathered around the fireplace, so what better time to grab a book to read to everyone.
"Alright, children. Today, we are going to read a story about magic and snow."
Qui-Gon opened the book to begin the story.
