Father Knows Best
Later, Omega was adding just a little more detail to her newest work of art.
"Your paintings just get more beautiful everyday, Omega." said Estrella.
"Thanks, Estrella." Omega said. "Now if only I could see the lights for real."
"Omega? Omega, let down your hair." a voice called from down below.
"Quick, Estrella! Hide!" Omega said.
And Estrella rushed to hide in Omega's bedroom, the one place Palpatine just about never went in the tower. The perfect hiding spot.
"Omega," the voice called again.
"Coming, Father." Omega replied.
And Omega wrapped some of her hair over a strong hook and threw the rest of it down to the ground, where Palpatine waited for her.
Down below, Palpatine made a loop from some of the hair and gave a gentle tug to let Omega know he was ready, and she pulled him right up to the entrance of the tower.
"Hello, Father." Omega greeted.
"There's my little flower." Palpatine said.
"Father, I was wondering if I could ask you something?"
Palpatine, however, knew gray hairs were starting to show. He needed the sundrop's magic.
"Oh, Omega. Daddy is weary, won't you sing for me first?"
Omega quickly got the stool she sat on and her hairbrush, and she sat down as Palpatine began brushing her hair, but Omega also sang the song really fast. Palpatine tried to get Omega to slow down and started to brush faster, but could barely keep up, and was turned young a lot faster than he was used to.
"Omega!" Palpatine scolded.
"So, Father..." Omega said. "I wanted to ask you about the floating lights?"
"Oh, the stars?" Palpatine said. "Yes, they are beautiful."
"Yes, and they only appear on my birthday..." Omega climbed up to where she'd done her latest painting and pulled the curtain away. "And I'm turning thirteen, so I was wondering if you would take me to see the lights closer?"
"You want to go outside? Why, Omega..." Palpatine held his daughter's chin. "Look at you, as fragile as a flower. Still a little sapling, just a sprout."
You know why we stay up in this tower
"I know, but—" Omega started, only to be interrupted.
Palpatine:
That's right, to keep you safe and sound, dear
Guess I always knew this day was coming
Knew that soon you'd want to leave the nest
Soon, but not yet
"But—" Palpatine shoved a finger over Omega's lips
Shh!
Trust me, pet
Father knows best
Father knows best, listen to your father
It's a scary world out there
Father knows best, one way or another
Something will go wrong, I swear
Ruffians, thugs, poison ivy, quicksand
Cannibals and snakes
The plague
Omega: No!
Palpatine: Yes!
Omega: But—
Palpatine darkened the room and made a bunch of shadow puppets of all the scary things about the world he hoped would change Omega's mind about going outside.
Palpatine:
Also large bugs
Men with pointy teeth, and
Palpatine feigned fainting by a painting he made of a man with pointy teeth.
Stop, no more, you'll just upset me
Omega hid in a pile of her hair until Palpatine pulled her up by her hand.
Father's right here, Father will protect you
Omega quickly hugged her father, only to find she was hugging a mannequin she used to make clothes.
Darling, here's what I suggest
Palpatine dramatically walked down the stairs that were now lit with candles
Skip the drama, stay with papa
Father knows best
Go ahead, get trampled by a rhino
Go ahead, get mugged and left for dead
Me, I'm just your father, what do I know?
I only bathed and changed and nursed you
Go ahead and leave me, I deserve it
Omega tried to say something, but Palpatine continued on
Let me die alone here, be my guest
When it's too late, you'll see, just wait
Father knows best
Father knows best, take it from your daddy
On your own, you won't survive
Palpatine had Omega stand in front of the mirror and lowered it to show she had no shoes on
Sloppy, underdressed,
Omega then tripped on her hair
immature, clumsy
and Palpatine rolled her up like a rug in her hair.
Please, they'll eat you up alive
Gullible, naïve, positively grubby
Ditzy and a bit, well, hmm, vague
Palpatine held Omega's chin
Plus, I believe, gettin' kinda chubby
I'm just saying 'cause I wuv you
Father understands, Father's here to help you
All I have is one request
Palpatine appeared in a spotlight and opened his arms to Omega.
The young girl immediately ran to her guardian and hugged him.
"Omega... don't ever ask to leave this tower again." Palpatine shot straight.
Omega looked down sadly and said, "Yes, Daddy."
"I love you very much, dear." said Palpatine.
"I love you more," said Omega, hugging him.
"I love you most." Palpatine kissed her head.
Don't forget it
You'll regret it
Palpatine tapped Omega's nose
Father knows best
And then Omega was left alone again.
Estrella lay by Omega's bed in her room, and in came the lady of the hour.
"So... how'd it..." she paused when she saw the sad look on Omega's face. "...go?"
Omega plopped facedown onto her pillow.
"He said no. Again."
Estrella nuzzled Omega.
"Don't be sad, Omega. You'll see the outside world. I just know it."
Meanwhile, Boba was having the time of his life riding Remix through the new path.
"Those guards must be way behind us by now." Boba said.
"As excited as I am to be on an adventure, don't you think your parents are gonna be wondering why it's taking longer than usual for the guards to find you?"
"After this trip, they'll see they can chain me to my room, and I'd still find a way out."
And so, the two kept running.
Meanwhile, Omega was still upset that she couldn't go see the lights.
"You know," said Estrella. "There is another way. But it's kinda risky."
"What?" Omega asked.
"We could always go see the lights without your father knowing."
Omega thought Estrella had to be crazy.
"Even if I thought that was a good idea, my father would still bust me big time once he came home and saw I'm not here."
"You're right. How would we keep him away long enough? I know he goes out a lot, but he always comes back wanting a song, and only ever stays longer than a couple hours at night."
"It's hopeless. I'll never get out of here."
