Morning Routine

It was just another morning at the old Jinn estate.

In the attic, there were two beds. One with sheets of blue, and the other sheets of orange. Both beds had one figure fast asleep in them. That is, until a silver lab with a blue collar came between them. His name was Artoo.

Artoo barked, trying to get the boys awake. But Anakin kept sleeping, and Carmine turned to his other side. Artoo whined. Then, he got up onto Anakin's bed and started licking the boy's face.
Anakin started to laugh as he felt Artoo's kisses tickling him.

"Artoo... Artoo, stop it!" Anakin laughed, sitting up and yawning. "I'm up."

Artoo wagged his tail and jumped down, then got to Carmine and started licking, much to Carmine's chagrin.

"Might as well get up." Anakin sang. "He's not gonna stop 'til you do."

"Alright. Alright!" Carmine groaned. He rubbed his eyes and yawned as he put on his glasses. "I was just having an amazing dream."

"So was I." Anakin said.

Artoo barked.

"We can't tell you, Artoo." Anakin scratched the dog's ears.

Artoo looked confused and whimpered as if to say "Why not?"

"Because dreams are wishes," said Carmine. "And if you tell a wish..."

"It won't come true."

Carmine then picked up his guitar and began to play it and said, "Mom and Dad used to sing us a special song all about this."

Carmine:
A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep

Anakin: In dreams you will lose your heartaches
Whatever you wish for, you keep

Anakin tapped Artoo's nose. That was also when some white mice who lived in the attic came into the room and listened to the twins singing their song.

Carmine: Have faith in your dreams and someday

Anakin: Your rainbow will come smiling through

Twins:
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
The dream that you wish will come true

BONG! BONG! went the clock tower outside.

"That darn clock." Anakin said, throwing his pillow back on the headboard of his bed. "Killjoy."

"Yup," said Carmine. "It's always, 'get up,' 'wake up!'"

"You have no choice in the matter. Time to start another day."

Anakin looked at Artoo and said, "You see? Even they order us around."

Artoo growled.

"But, there is one thing."

Carmine smiled and said, "They can't order us to stop dreaming."

"And maybe someday..."

Twins: The dreams that we wish will come true

Anakin and Carmine got to work making their beds and getting themselves freshened up for the day. The mice helped them put together their servant uniforms, fluff their pillows, and find their shoes.

Before leaving the attic, the twins looked together at a framed picture of them with their parents. The last family photo they'd taken before their parents' deaths.

No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
The dream that you wish will come true

In the stables outside, Carmine and Anakin's horses Sapphire and Harmony were just waking up from their slumber, and they were ready for breakfast.

Sapphire let out a big yawn. "Good morning, Harmony."

"Morning, Sapphire." Harmony said, shaking her long, frizzy mane out from her eyes.

"Morning, girls." said Anakin. "Ready for breakfast?"

The horses whinnied happily. And Anakin each gave their horses their hay and oats for breakfast while Carmine fed the chickens corn.

"Eat up, chickens." Carmine said.

Some baby chicks walked up to Carmine, and he gently picked one up.

"Is there ever a day baby chicks aren't adorable?" Carmine chuckled.

"Aww." Anakin sighed. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't deny he was a sucker for cute things too. Especially when he held one of those baby chicks.

But... that happy moment was interrupted by the clock chiming again.

"Uh-oh. We're running late!" Anakin said.
Even with two of them working, there just wasn't enough time to get everything done without passing out into bed later.

Anakin and Carmine got to the kitchen to make breakfast, and the mice helped. These three mice who were helping, the twins named them Rex, Jesse, and Cody. The twins even gave them little sweaters to tell them apart. A blue one for Rex, an orange one for Cody, and a darker blue one with a star on it for Jesse. It was just a good thing Palpatine was allergic to cats, or having mice would've been a problem.

The mice just finished setting up the trays for the twins to make their stepfamily's breakfast in bed.
"Thanks, guys." Anakin said. "Don't know what we'd do without you."

Artoo sniffed the table at the trays of food... until Anakin and Carmine picked them up.

"No, Artoo. These are for Stepfather and the stepbrothers." Anakin said, picking up two trays.

Carmine picked up the third tray and went upstairs with Anakin.

They each stopped at Maul or Savage's rooms and bid them good morning, only to receive laundry baskets instead of thanks for their breakfast.

"I know we're supposed to have courage and be kind," said Carmine, sounding like he was ready to lose it. "but would it really kill those guys to say thank you just once?"

"I agree with you, Carmine." Anakin said. "But until we can find other jobs and places to live, we're stuck here."

Anakin took the tray to the last door. The master bedroom.
He went inside.

"Good morning, Stepfather." Anakin said, entering the room.

"Where is your brother?" Palpatine asked.

"Getting started on the stepbrothers' laundry." Anakin answered simply as he set up his stepfather's tea. "I know the drill."

Anakin went to pick up his stepfather's laundry basket, but the latter spoke up.

"After you are done with that, I require you to run some errands in town." Palpatine said. "Pick up Savage's suit from the tailors, get more bread, and ensure the mail is sent. And when you return, the windows need cleaning, then there is the dishes, the carpet in the main room is in need of dusting, the chimney sweeping, and tell your brother to get that piano tuned. It sounds like a bantha with indigestion."

"Yes, sir." Anakin said. The piano sounding way off-key was the one thing he agreed with his stepfather on.

Anakin had special dreams.
He wanted to find happiness again. Have a family again. But, finding a wife was not easy when he was stuck doing chores all the time. And how many girls do you know who'd want to date a lowly servant boy, even if he is good-looking?
Anakin sighed. Nothing he could do now but get his brother and get started on the chores.
