Accidental Encounter
Ranbir felt uneasy moving through the full temple, feeling awkward among the religious devotees. Although not being religious by nature, he was drawn to this location today for an unexplainable reason.
His gaze strayed to a group of young ladies standing close to the entrance, their laughter and chattering amidst the commotion. And Prachi was standing there, in the middle of the group, her beautiful smile illuminating the dark surroundings.
Ranbir couldn't take his eyes off of her for a brief moment. She had performed for him on stage, and he had witnessed her fierce energy and stubborn resolve, but there was something new, something softer, more vulnerable, about her now.
Prachi turned to face him, as if sensing his presence, and her eyes widened in astonishment as a warm grin blossomed on her lips. "Ranbir?" she exclaimed, her voice fragile but sincere.
Ranbir couldn't quite place the strange flutter that he felt in his chest when he heard her speak. He replied, "Prachi," unable to control the smile that was tugging at his lips.
They exchanged an peaceful gaze, and for a moment, the outside world vanished, leaving only the two of them standing there, caught in one other's glances.
But a sudden blast of wind cut short the sweet moment together, threatening to blow out the flickering diya that was placed on the altar nearby.
Ranbir moved instinctively, leaping forward and placing his hand to protect the small flame from the wind. His hand and Prachi's met in that instant, their fingers entwined as they united to keep the sacred flame safe.
They stood there with their hands locked together, a shared purpose causing time seem to stop. Ranbir had a wave of tranquillity at that very moment, as though everything in his chaotic world had unexpectedly fallen into place.
However, the moment was gone too soon, with Ranbir and Prachi standing there with their hands still intertwined and their eyes fixed in unspoken understanding.
Prachi blushed and lowered her eyes as they carefully separated their hands, suddenly feeling self-conscious under the intense gaze of Ranbir.
Prachi's friends and family started to disperse as she found herself staying at the temple entrance, her heart still pounding from her unplanned meeting with Ranbir. She felt as though there was something she should say to him, even though her mother insisted that they should leave.
Ranbir seems hesitant to leave as well, remaining close by as though she was awaiting a chance to say something. And when their gazes locked again, Prachi experienced a flash of courage that propelled her to move toward him.
Her voice was barely heard above a whisper as she began, "Ranbir, main bas vahaan diya bachane ke liye aapko dhanyavad kehna chahta tha(I just wanted to say thank you for saving the diya back there.)"
At her remarks, Ranbir's gaze softened and a small grin appeared at the corners of his lips. "Yah kuch bhi nahi tha(It was nothing)," he replied back, his tone soft but earnest. "Main bas khada hokar ise bahar jate hue nahi dekh sakata tha(I couldn't just stand by and watch it go out.)"
With a nod, Prachi felt her heart lighten at the kindness in his eyes. Her cheeks turned pink with embarrassment as she said, "Lekin, isaka matalab bahut tha(But, it meant a lot)."
At her remarks, Ranbir smiled wider, a cheeky spark coming into his eyes. "Khair, mujhe lagta hai ki yah bilkul uchit hai(Well, I suppose it's only fair)," he said in a lighthearted but endearing tone. "Aakhirkar, aapane ise bachane mein meri madad ki(After all, you did help me save it.)"
At his comment, Prachi couldn't help but chuckle, and their shared tension began to diminish. "Mujhe lagta hai ki hum saath milkar acha kaam karate hai(I think we work well together)," she remarked, matching his smile.
The sound of Prachi's mother calling her name from across the temple courtyard burst through their lively banter. Prachi turned to her mother and sighed hesitantly, realizing that their time together was quickly running out.
"Shaayad mujhe jaana chaahiye(I should probably get going)," she said, her voice tinged with regret. "But...thank you again, Ranbir. For everything."
Ranbir nodded, his expression softening as he watched her retreat towards her waiting family. "Anytime, Prachi," he called after her, his voice filled with warmth and sincerity. "Apna khayal rakhna(Take care)."
Ranbir couldn't get rid of the impression that this unplanned meeting was only the start of something much bigger than either of them could have ever dreamed as they bid farewells, their hearts heavy with unknown emotions.
With unspoken feelings weighing heavily on her mind, Prachi took a final glance at Ranbir before vanishing into the crowd. She silently hoped that their paths might cross again in the future.
With glimpses of Ranbir racing through her head, Prachi fell asleep that night and dreamed an amazing dream in which everything was possible and she and Ranbir could explore the depths of their developing affections for one another.
She dreamed that she was standing in a wide field with the sun dancing on her skin and the tall grass gently waving in the air. She then caught a glimpse of him in the distance: Ranbir, her Mr. Rockstar, standing beneath a massive oak tree and staring at her with a mix of longing and tenderness.
Prachi could not help but be in awe of him as she drew closer, the golden light of the setting sun softening his rugged features. Her heart skipped a beat at the way his tousled and messy locks framed his face, and his eyes, oh, his eyes, dragged her in like a moth to a flame. It appeared as though they held the whole universe within.
He cried out to her, "Prachi," his voice like a light wind stirring the leaves above. "Mujhe tumhara intezar tha(I've been waiting for you.)"
His comments caused Prachi to feel a rush of warmth, and as she drew closer to him, a sense of calm descended upon her. "Ranbir," she said in a voice that was almost audible above a whisper. "Maine...maine nahi socha tha ki main tumhe yahan paunga(I...I didn't think I'd find you here.)"
With a sweet grin and a hint of unspoken emotion, Ranbir looked at her. He said, "Main hamesha yahan hota hoon(I'm always here), Prachi," with a genuine tone to his voice. "Tumhare sapno mein, tumhare dil mein...main hamesha tumhare saath hoon(In your dreams, in your heart...I'm always with you.)"
Prachi felt her cheeks flush at his words, a flutter of excitement coursing through her at the thought of being so close to him. "Main...mujhe nahi pata ki kya kahoon(I...I don't know what to say)," she stammered, her heart racing in her chest.
Prachi was sleeping peacefully when her mother's voice called her name, shocking her while she drifted further into her dream world in which Ranbir was her constant companion.
"Prachi, wake up!" Through the cloud of Prachi's dream, Bhoomi's voice burst out from the doorway, bringing her back to the real world.
Prachi groaned and blinked drowsily, trying to shake herself free from her warm blanket cocoon. "Maa,kya main paanch minute aur nahi so sakata(can't I just sleep for five more minutes?)" She muttered, her tone heavy with slumber.
Bhoomi, on the other hand, was getting impatient and moved across the room to stand next to Prachi's bed. "Ab aur nahi sona, Prachi(No more sleeping, Prachi)," she said in a strong but amusing tone. "Aapke samne bahut lamba din hai aur hamein shuruaat karne ki jaroorat hai(You've got a long day ahead of you, and we need to get started.)"
Prachi sighed resignedly and forced herself to sit, brushing the last of her sleep from her eyes and trying to erase the last trace of her dream. She mumbled, giving her mother a half-hearted glare, "Alright, alright." "Lekin kya main pahale kuch chai to nahi pi sakati(But can't I at least have some chai first?)"
Shaking her head in giggles, Bhoomi laughed at her daughter's antics. "Nice try, Prachi," she teased, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Haalaanki, chai intezaar kar sakti hai. Abhi hamare paas chinta karne ke liye aur bhi mahatvapurn maamale hain(However, chai can wait. We have more important matters to worry about right now.)"
Prachi arched an eyebrow in perplexity, her interest sparked. "Aur bhi mahatvapurn baaten(More important matters?)" she repeated, a hint of doubt in her voice. "Aap Ka kya matalab hai Maa(What do you mean, Maa?)"
With a naughty grin, Bhoomi's eyes sparkled with suppressed laughter. "I mean, Ranbir," she said in a playful tone. "Aapake Papa aap se uske baare mein kuch baat karna chahte hain(Your Papa wants to have a word with you about him.)"
Prachi's heart raced as she tried to think of what her father could possibly want to talk about, and her eyes widened in worry at the mention of Ranbir's name. "Ranbir?" she asked again, somewhat hesitant in her voice. "Lekin...par kyon(But...but why?)"
With a knowing smirk tugging at the corners of her lips, Bhoomi shrugged. "I'm not sure," she said in a secretive tone. "Lekin mujhe lagta hai ki yah kaafi charcha ka vishay rahega(But I have a feeling it's going to be quite the conversation.)"
Prachi's pulse raced as she walked into the living room and saw her father, Surya Mehra, sitting there with a serious look on his face, waiting for her. As she walked toward him, her mind raced with all the reasons why she could have been called upon without warning. She was unable to get rid of the uneasy feeling that had crept in the pit of her stomach.
(The reason that her parents are Ram and Ragini from Meet is because I have already used Abhi and Pragya in many stories)
"Surya," Bhoomi said softly, placing a reassuring hand on her husband's arm. "Prachi's here."
With a mix of interest and worry, Surya looked up from the newspaper he had been reading and fixed his focus on Prachi. "Prachi," he uttered in a serious voice. "Mujhe aapse baat karni hai(I need to talk to you.)"
Prachi took a seat across from her father and gulped anxiously, her mouth going suddenly dry. She said, her voice hardly audible above a whisper, "Yes, Papa?"
With a deep and intense gaze, Surya leaned forward, his expression serious. "Main haal hi mein is Ranbir saathi ke baare mein bahut kuch sun raha hoon(I've been hearing a lot about this Ranbir fellow lately)," he remarked in an authoritative voice. "Aur sach kahoon to, main chintit hoon(And frankly, I'm concerned.)"
The mention of Ranbir's name caused Prachi's heart drop, and she raced through her head, trying to figure out how to convey her complicated emotions for him. "Papa,main...main use bamushkil jaanta hoon(I...I barely know him)," she said in an uncertain kind of voice. "Hum keval do baar mile hain, aur hum abhi tak dost bhi nahi hain(We've only met two times, and we're not even friends yet.)"
At her comments, Surya's gaze eased slightly, but his concern was still there. His voice was hard but patient as he said, "Main yah samajhta hoon, Prachi(I understand that, Prachi.)" "But please be careful; hum dono ko isaki zaroorat hai. Haalaanki Ranbir ek sabhy vyakti prateet hote hain, lekin aap kabhi bhi kisi ke sachche iraadon ke baare mein aashvast nahi ho sakte(we both need it. Although Ranbir appears to be a decent guy, you can never be sure of someone's true intentions.)"
Prachi nodded, her mind racing with every circumstance her father's warning may have led to. "I'll be careful, Papa," she vowed, her voice full of resolve. "Main kuch bhi moorkhataapoorn nahi karunga, main wada karta hoon(I won't do anything foolish, I promise.)"
With a sigh, Surya stretched out to give her a comforting squeeze on her hand. With a tone full of fatherly warmth, he added, "Main jaanata hoon tum aisa nahi karoge, Prachi. Bas apane antargyaan par bharosa karana yaad rakhen, aur yadi aapako kabhi bhi sahaayata ya salaah ki aavashyakta ho to hamare paas aane se na dare(I know you won't, Prachi. Just remember to trust your instincts, and don't be afraid to come to us if you ever need help or advice.)"
With her father's remarks echoing in her mind, Prachi nodded and felt overcome with gratitude for his steadfast support. She was confident that with her family on her side, she would always have the courage to meet obstacles head-on.
