Prom
{A/N: Outfits are at the bottom}
I exhaled nervously as I pulled the dress from the hanger. Senior prom was tonight, and I didn't know how to do anything make-up or hair wise. So I was grateful I had Ryan's wife, Cassie, and daughter, Samantha, to help out. Well, Cassie was more to help out than Samantha was.
I pulled the protective cover off the dress, the material soft against my calloused fingers. I pulled the zipper down before stepping in and sliding it up. I called for Samantha, knowing she would love to help me. She rushed in, her bright green eyes looking up at me.
"Hey, Sam. Can ya help me with my zipper, please?" I asked my four-year-old niece. She nodded, auburn curls bouncing as she climbed on my bed and grasped the zipper. I pulled my hair away from the track, and she pulled the zipper up. I smiled, grabbing her and settling her on my hip as I walked out and down the stairs to where Cassie was waiting. I set Sam down, watching as she ran off to where Aiden sat on the couch. I sat in the chair Cassie had set up with a curling iron and more makeup than I thought one person could own spread out on the table. Shifting slightly, I settled the single strap on my shoulder comfortably. Silver flowers ran from the right shoulder around the back to my left hip. Cassie smiled, looking at me then at her makeup collection.
An hour later, Cassie stepped back, looking at me with a huge smile on her face. "You look amazing if I say so myself," she stated before grabbing my hand and walking over to where a floor length mirror was glued to the wall. My eyes widened at the reflection. This teenager was not me, under any circumstances. She was too beautiful to be me.
"My gods," I muttered. "This...This isn't me." I shook my head. I turned to Cassie. "Thank you so much, Cassie. I love it," I murmured, pulling her short frame into my tall one. She smiled when I pulled away, calling for Samantha to get me my shoes. Sam came over, the olive green sandals embellished with jewels in her hands.
"'Ere you go, Aun' J," she said, smiling widely. I smiled back at her, taking the shoes from her hands and ruffling her hair. I slipped the shoes on and grabbed the corsage that Cassie helped me pick out. I turned it over in my hands before looking at Aiden, who'd made an appearance behind Cassie.
"I don't know if I can do this, Aiden," I said, my amber eyes meeting his own. He smirked.
"You're going to prom, J, not proposing," he stated, coming over to hug me. "Besides, you don't want to let Sam down, huh? Didn't you promise to take her to Adri's so she can play with Aria?" I nodded, watching as Sam's eyes lit up at the mention of Aria. I smiled, holding out my arms for Sam. She ran over and I picked her up. Aiden placed a hand on my shoulder. "Go on, J. You can do this," he stated. I nodded again, pulling him into a one-armed hug before waving to Cassie and walking out, Sam on my hip.
Once I pulled up to Adri's house, Sam started bouncing in her seat and clapping her hands. I smirked, parking the truck and turning it off before walking over to the passenger side and opening the back door. The cool metal glinted in the streetlights, and I smiled at my truck before walking Sam to the front door. Aria opened the door, poking her head out. Her dirty blonde hair fell over her shoulder and Sam reached for her.
"Heya, Sam," Aria said, taking Sam into her arms. "Hey, Jaz. You clean up nice," she stated, smirking. I stuck my tongue out at her, and she held a hand over her heart in fake hurt.
"Hi, Ari. Is Adri ready?" I asked. She looked back, still holding the door somewhat shut so I couldn't see in. She looked back at me.
"Two minutes," she sighed, turning around and shutting the door.
When the door opened again, I was met with Mr. Black. "Good evening, Mr. Black," I said, bowing slightly. He smiled.
"Jaz, I've told you a dozen times before, it's-"
"Logan, I know. My sincerest apologies, Logan," I said, shaking his hand. He held the door open for me, and I stepped in, thanking him. I stopped two feet in, however, floored by Adri. She wore a knee length champagne colored dress with a lace overlay. Her blonde hair was in an intricate braid that fell over her shoulder, the green dark against the dress. The lace formed sleeved that went to her wrists, and she had on a light cover of gold makeup. Her lips were wine red, and she wore black, heeled boots. The feather necklace I'd gotten her went well with the outfit, the golden feather resting just below her throat. She twisted her ring on her left middle finger, clearly nervous. I ran forward, enveloping her in a hug.
"You're beautiful," I murmured in her ear. I felt her smile against my shoulder, and she whispered back.
"So are you." I smiled, pulling back. I heard Aria and Sam behind us, talking quietly. I turned, my hand on her waist, which I didn't have to crouch for. The heels added a good five inches to her height. Her mom took pictures while I gave her the corsage and some other pictures. Once they released us, I led Adri to the truck and held open her door.
"You washed her, huh?" I smiled, shutting her door and walking around to my side. I climbed in before gently pressing my lips to hers.
"Hell yeah. Needed a nice vehicle to go to prom," I smirked. She rolled her eyes, gently punching me in the arm. I started the truck and drove to school.
I paid for both Adri and I to get in, her hand wrapped around mine. A couple of the other seniors were busy spiking the punch bowl-which I had no desire to drink out of, and neither did Adri-and I nodded to my only "friend," Mason Stevens. He nodded back before going back to flirting with Charity Evans, the "crush of his life," as Mason ever-so-eloquently put it. I rolled my eyes, turning to Adri.
"I'm not leaving your side," I muttered, glaring at a couple of football stars who were checking Adri out, when they thought I wasn't looking. She nodded, her hand gripping mine just a bit tighter. I squeezed her hand back to reassure her.
We ended up standing by the snack bar, watching as the other students ground on each other. I sighed, rolling my eyes. "Y'know, if I'd known there was going to be this much grinding, I wouldn't've brought you, or gone myself. I coulda taken you to a fancy dinner and no one woulda been any wiser," I stated. She nodded, and I heard the upbeat music die out, only to be replaced by very familiar opening tones.
"This one's for Jazmyn Smoke and Adryana Black," the DJ said, and I immediately facepalmed. Of course Mason would request Angeles. I moved to stand in front of Adri and bowed slightly.
"May I have this dance?" I asked. I heard her giggle before placing her hand in mine.
"Of course you may," she replied, and I gently kissed her knuckles before walking to the center of the ring of students. We quickly situated ourselves as the lyrics began.
Someone's always coming around here
Trailing some new kill
Says "I've seen your picture on a
Hundred-dollar bill"
What's a game of chance to you
Here is one of real skill
So glad to meet you, Angeles
Adri leaned her head down, resting her cheek against my shoulder. I chuckled, leaning my head against hers. We slowly walked in circles, since neither of us really knew how to dance.
Picking up the ticket shows there's
Money to be made
Go on, lose the gamble that's the
History of the trade
Did you add up all the cards left to play
To zero
And sign up with evil, Angeles?
Don't start me trying now
Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh
'Cause I'm all over it, Angeles
For the last couple of verses, she tilted her head up and my eyes locked with hers. We both softly sang along with Jensen Ackles as the song finished.
"I can make you satisfied in
Everything you do
All your secret wishes could right
Now be coming true
And be forever with my poison arms
Around you
No one's gonna fool around with us
No one's gonna fool around with us
So glad to meetcha, Angeles."
I heard whistles scattered around the crowd, and heard Mason cheering. We broke apart and both smiled, nodding our thanks to the students. We then made our way through the crowd, back to our spot by the snack table. Mason strolled over as another upbeat song started.
"You're welcome, by the way," he said as he came to lean against the table on my left side, opposite Adri. I shook my head.
"Thank you so much, Mace," I said, my voice dripping with sarcasm. He rolled his eyes, and I punched him in the shoulder.
"Ow!" He yelped, causing me to shake my head again.
"Typical," I stated, taking Adri's hand in mine.
"Let's go. Dinner's on me," I stated, walking in the direction of the exit.
