Chapter 8
Jayfeather closed his eyes, but opened them soon after. I need to know how the Clans are doing, he thought. He slipped into Lionblaze's dreams, praying that his skills were still sharp. Lionblaze stood in the ThunderClan camp- the way the camp had looked the last time Jayfeather saw it. "Jayfeather, why did you leave?" Lionblaze whispered to himself . "The power of stars would do nothing without the stars themselves."
"Lionblaze!" Jayfeather called. Lionblaze turned around, astonished. "Jayfeather." Lionblaze gasped. "You're here." He sighed. "I thought I'd have to go to you myself to deliver this prophecy." Smoke engulfed Jayfeather and Lionblaze, so much so that Jayfeather could barely see his brother. "Time must be reversed in order to restore what has fallen."
"What do you mean?" Jayfeather asked. Lionblaze shook his head. "If only I knew." He sighed. "But Jayfeather- come back."
Smoke engulfed Lionblaze, clouding his vision. No longer being blind, Jayfeather could see the figure of a cat approaching
"Lionblaze?" Jayfeather whispered, barely daring to hope
"I wish I was Lionblaze." Jayfeather's heart dropped as he realized this was not his brother. Instead, it was a small, gray she cat. Her eyes were blue and her fur was messy and dirty.
"Are you part of.." Jayfeather began.
The she-cat nodded. "I am Smokepaw of FallenClan."
"Smokepaw?" Jayfeather asked. "You look old enough to be a warrior." He searched through Smokepaw's mind, and couldn't believe what he saw.
A younger ONestar and Smokepaw were sitting at the entrant of a Twolegplace. Onestar's affection for Smokepaw was clear, and Smokepaw seemed to share ONestar's thoughts.
The scene shifted. Jayfeather couldn't see Smokepaw or Onestar, but he could definetley hear them. Jayfeather gagged at the thought of what they were doing. The scene shifted once more.
Smokepaw was carrying a kit away from Onestar, fury in her eyes. Onestar looked heartbroken, his tail dragging as he padded away.
The scene shifted for a final time. Smokepaw looked much older now. She was following a large group of cats over a mountain. Jayfeather easily regognized Leafpool, Firestar, and Brambleclaw.
JAyfeather left Smokepaw's mind, staring at her in shock.
"You knew Onestar? And you followed the Clans to the lake?"
Smokepaw nodded, her eyes showing only the slightest whisper of grief. "And I lost them midway. When I finally found them, I learned that ONestar was dead."
"I'm sorry." Jayfeather mewed sincerely.
"You shouldn't be." Smokepaw snapped. "Anyways, I'm here to deliver a message that StarClan wanted me to send."
"StarClan is already gone." Jayfeather pointed out.
"Appearently not." Smokepaw replied. "The cat said her name was Star Flower or whatever. Weird name, right?"
Jayfeather nodded, still confused. Hadn't Tigerstar killed all of StarClan? Maybe some cats had survived.
"He told me to tell you to come back, and that if you stayed too long, you would have to do the unthinkable thing. I don't know the exact words, but this is pretty close to what she said."
Jayfeather frowned. He had already given up everything to live with the Tribe of Rushing Water. What more was there for him to do?
"Come back to the Clans with me, Jayfeather." Smokepaw extended her paw, staring into Jayfeather's eyes. "The Clans need you. Your Tribe doesn't"
Jayfeather stepped back, rage filling in his eyes. "You're right about one thing. My tribe doesn't need me. But I belong with them, and nothing is going to change that."
"Jayfeather, wait!" Smokepaw's calls faded as Jayfeather jumped out of his nest, panting. Stoneteller stared at Jayfeather curiously.
"What's wrong, Jay's Wing?"
"Yeah Jay's Wing." Fire Star stared at him with his round, green eyes. Jayfeather's heart fell. Sometimes he missed FIrestar. He still felt bad for abandoning the Clans.
But I belong here, Jayfeather thought. Nothing can change that now.
----
"It didn't work?" Tigerheart asked. Smokepaw shook her head, sighing dejectedly. "The Clans won't be restored without Jayfeather."
"Who knows?" Smokepaw turned around and dipped her head towards Leafpool. "Lionblaze is still here. Maybe he can defeat the Dark Forest."
"We need all three of them," Smokepaw pointed out. "And Dovewing's already dead."
"No. Dovewing wasn't the third cat." Firepaw padded out of the medicine cat den.
"How do you know that?" Tigerheart snapped angrily.
"I recieved a vision from Dovewing herself." Firepaw replied. "She told me 'find the third'. Then she erupted into fire. There was smoke everywhere, and then I saw the figure of a cat. I couldn't tell who it was though. The cat then turned into a ball of light and disappeared into the moon."
"Maybe the fire represents Firestar!" Tigerheart mewed excitedly.
"Or maybe it represents Firepaw." Smokepaw suggested.
"Maybe that 'fire' will bring StarClan back. Since they did go into the moon, and StarClan lives in the sky." Firepaw mewed.
"I think you should bring this to Mistystar." Tigerheart mewed as he licked his paw.
Firepaw nodded and made his way to the leader's den.
—
"Let all cats gather around the Fallen Pine for a Clan meeting!" Mistystar scurried up the massive trunk of the fallen pine tree, which leaned against a large boulder. Ivypool pushes herself out of her best, rolling her eyes as she padded out of the Warriors Den.
"Traitor." Tigerheart hissed as Ivypool passed him. "The Clans would probably still be alive if you had just told us about the Dark Forest earlier."
"That makes you a traitor as well." Ivypool retorted. Applefur turned away, looking uncomfortable. Smokepaw felt a pang of sympathy for the She-Cat. She had trained in the Dark Forest, but just like Ivypool and Tigerheart, she had fought for the Clans when the time came.
"Firepower has had a vision. What that vision was, I will not speak of. But all you need to know is that a fire will save the Clans."
"Didn't that fire die on the Clans last time?" Millie snapped. Mistystar lashed her tail. "Firestar was a great leader. He might have been a kittypet, but at least he agreed to take on a true warrior name. Millie's mouth fell open.
"Dang.." Crowfeather mewed. Leafpool laughed. Smokepaw frowned. She knew that Crowfeather and Leafpool had a history together. But now, they seemed to be getting closer than they should be.
"Enough! I will not tolerate my Clanmates fighting each other!"
"Mistystar..." Smokepaw turned her head and saw that it was Eclipse that had spoken. Eclipse was a rogue who had been attacked by the Dark Forest. She quickly joined FallenClan in order to get revenge, along with her siblings- Dawn and Mountain. Mountain took on the name of Mountainpaw without hesitation, but Eclipse and Dawn we're unwilling to take on Clan names for the moment.
"After your mention about Clan names... Dawn and I have been living under your dens for several moons now. We've been trained by you cats for at least 10 moons now. Mountainpaw joined your Clan, and I think we should too." Mistystar smiled warmly at the young She-cats. "Very well." She mewed.
Dawn and Eclipse stood in front of Mistystar, their eyes set in determination.
"Dawn, by the powers of.. um, what used to be StarClan, I give you the name Dawnpaw. Tigerheart will continue to mentor you." Dawnpaw smiled in pride as the Clan chanted her name.
"Eclipse, by the powers of the former StarClan, I give you the name of Eclipsepaw. Your mentor, Dovewing died a quarter moon ago. You have trained with your sister, but now, you need a new mentor. Icefang, despite being a new warrior, will be your mentor. I hope that she will pass her quick reactions and loyalty on to you."
Icefang's eyes widened in surprise, then she broke into a smile. She padded towards Eclipsepaw, stopping in front of her.
"Touch noses with her." Mistystar mewed. Icefang dipped her nose to touch Eclipsepaw's as the Clan chanted her name.
Smokepaw smiled. Two new members of the Clan had to be a good sign. Mille stormed into the Warriors Den, fuming. Mistystar glanced in her direction, sighing as she headed back into her own den. Smokepaw padded towards the forest to lead a dawn border patrol, smiling to herself. FallenClan had a promising future, which would hopefully eventually lead to the rebuilding of the Clans.
Ayeee I finally updated
