You're Late
Death teleported himself to the Overthere train station, up in the clouds. He actually didn't come here often, since most of his duties were down in the Underwhere, but it was nice to feel the shift in climate up above.
He didn't technically have a reason to be here, but he wanted to witness the shift from winter to summer. He had heard rumors that Jaydes finally was sending her daughter back up to her father, (even though it was a few months too late. She had completely missed spring. Again.)
So there he stood, with a line of pure-hearted Nimbis behind him, patiently waiting.

He rested his cane on the ground and leaned on it, checking his watch with his free hand, waiting in anticipation, and tapping his foot.
Death: And on the road to hell, there was a lot of waiting
Nimbis: Mmm...
Waiting
Death: Everybody waiting on a train
Nimbis: Mmm...
Waiting on a lady with a
Death: Waiting on a train to bring that lady
Nimbis: Mmm...
Lady
Death: With the suitcase back again
He sighed and continued tapping his foot in annoyance.
Death: She's never early, always late
Nimbis: Waiting
Death: These days she never stays for long
But good things come to those who wait
He paused and looked down the tracks, seeing the train in the distance and letting out a sigh of relief at the sound of the horns, softly smiling.
Death: Here she comes!
The train arrived and the doors quickly opened.
Luvbi: Well it's like he said, I'm an outdoor girl
Death: And you're late again
Luvbi rolled her eyes, scoffed, and shoved her bags into his arms.
Luvbi: Daughter of the Queen of the Underwhere
Death: You forgot a little thing called spring
Luvbi giggled and ignored him, floating out to the crowd of Nimbis.
Luvbi: Are thou wondering where I've been?
Nimbis: Yeah! Where you been?
Death: I'm wondering
Luvbi: Been to hell, and back again
But like my father always said:
Brother when you're down, you're down
When you're up, you're up
If thou ain't six feet underground, you're living it up on top
Let's not talk about hard times
Cut the whining, it's summertime!
'Cause right now we're livin' it
Nimbis: How are we livin' it?
Luvbi: Livin' it, livin' it up
Oh brother, right here we're livin' it
Nimbis: Where are we livin' it?
Luvbi: Livin' it up on top!
Who makes the summer sunshine bright?
That's right, Luvbi!
Who makes the fruit of the vine get ripe?
Nimbis: Luvbi!
Luvbi: That's me!
Who makes the flowers bloom again
In spite of a mom?
Nimbis: You do!
Luvbi: Who's doing the best she can?
Luvbi, that's who
Now some might say
The weather ain't the way it used to be
But let me tell thou something
That my father said to me
Thou take what you can get
And thee make the most of it
So right now we're livin' it
Nimbis: How are we livin' it
Luvbi: Livin' it, livin' it up
Oh brother, right here we're livin' it
Nimbis: Where are we livin' it?
Luvbi: Livin' it up on top
Death smiled and shrugged as all the Nimbi's celebrated, but his mind was back to Dimentio.
Death: It was summertime on the road to hell
Nimbis: Mmm...
Death: There was a boy who had a plan,
Nimbis: Mmm...
Death: But you might say it was in spite of himself,
Nimbis: Mmm, Mmm, Mmm...
Death: That this young man decided to wait...
There was a poor boy with a guitar,
Luvbi: Who says times are hard?
Death: The flowers bloomed and the fruit got ripe
And brother for a moment there
He paused and gestured to the crowd behind him as the sun began to shine once again.
Death: The world came back to life!

Luigi perked up upon feeling the change of temperature in Castle Bleck and immediately rushed out of his room, not even taking the time to put his hat or mask on. He quickly tied his bandana around his neck while he ran down the hall and knocked frantically on Dimentio's door.
"Hey? Dimentio! Get up! Summer finally came!" Luigi exclaimed, frantically knocking on the door. Dimentio opened it a few moments later, his mask on crooked and his clothes all wrinkly. He was clearly exhausted.
"Huh-" He muttered when Luigi suddenly grabbed his wrist and took down running through the halls.
"Summer's back!" Luigi exclaimed. "Can't you feel the change in temperature?"
"Um, yes?" Dimentio muttered. "But that doesn't mean anything here. The only difference is the temp-"
"The flowers!" Luigi interrupted. "Back at my home, in the summertime, the flowers would bloom. They're not as sweet and vibrant as the spring flowers, and the heat kills them after a few days, but if we hurry we could see them!"
Now there were a few problems with this. One, Luigi wasn't allowed to leave the castle. The Count and Nastasia were very strict on this rule. However, Dimentio honestly could care less for their requests and restrictions regarding the man in green. The real problem was him. He had left the castle a few times, but never for something not necessary. And he hadn't seen them in so long. What if it was overwhelming?
"... Where?" Dimentio asked.
"There's a field close to the Mushroom Kingdom. It's a hill to the north of Peach's Castle." Luigi explained.
Dimentio nodded, then stopped in his tracks, making Luigi stop as well. The jester softly smiled to himself, then snapped his fingers and teleported the pair to the exact place Luigi had described to him.
And there it was. A field of flowers, just as Luigi had described.
The sun wasn't straight overhead. It was just slightly east, due to the time change from Castle Bleck to the Mushroom Kingdom. Dimentio could feel its beams seep through his clothing and onto his skin. It had been so long since he felt the sun. Too long.
~ Music Pause 3:56 ~
And the flowers. There were hundreds. Maybe thousands, just blooming. Vibrant colors like blue, red, purple, green, yellow, orange, pink! Every color that the flower Luigi's song made had and more. The jester felt his eyes widen, then he slowly kneeled down, taking his gloved off and feeling the soft petals between his fingertips. He paused, then slowly kicked his shoes off as well, just to feel the flowers soft beneath his heels. He stood up and walked in the sun. It was everything he imagined it would be and more.
Luigi wasn't looking at the flowers, however. He only watched Dimentio, which the jester found confusing. Wasn't the whole reason for coming here to see the flowers?
Or did Luigi instead just want to come here to show HIM the flowers?
Dimentio lightly smiled at the realization. Luigi smiled back, then walked up next to him, turning his face to Dimentio's.
For a moment, the jester could forget about the Chaos Heart and the Count. But then Dimentio paused as reality seeped back into his mind. He turned his head away, gently walking forward and into the shade of a simple tree. A part of him felt like it was where he belonged.
Luigi didn't seem to agree.
The man in green sighed and walked over, reaching into the shade towards Dimentio and smiling a comforting smile. "It's okay. You don't need to hide."
He carefully grabbed Dimentio's hands and pulled him forward back into the sun.
~ Music Go To 4:48 ~
Luigi: Raise your chin up...
To the world we dream about,
And...
The one we live in now
Luigi paused, then lightly tapped his foot, creating a soft beat.
Luigi: 'Cause right now we're livin' it
Nimbis: How are we livin' it?
Luigi: Livin' it up, Livin' it up!
Brother, right here we're livin' it
Nimbis: Where are we livin' it?
Luigi: Listen here, I'll tell you where we're livin' it:
Up on top
Nimbis: Up on top!
Luigi: Livin' it up and we ain't gonna stop
Livin' it, livin' it
Nimbis: Livin' it, livin' it
Luigi: How are we livin' it?
Nimbis: Where are we livin' it?
Luigi: Livin' it, livin' it
Luigi and Nimbis: Livin' it, livin' it
Livin' it up on top!
~ Music Stop 5:29 ~
Dimentio covered his mouth and lightly laughed, looking past Luigi at the sun beginning to set in the sky. It was so bright and warm. Feelings he hadn't felt in such a long time. It was so strange.
What did Luigi do to him? Put some sort of spell on him? Why was he feeling this way? The feelings were almost scary. But a part of him welcomed them and wanted them to stay. He was almost afraid not of the feelings themselves, but about those feelings going away forever.
"I've been meaning to ask you," Luigi started, frowning slightly as the celebration-like mood slowly disappeared and turned to a more gentle tune. Not in a sad manner or anything, but in a thoughtful one. "Why do you always hide?"
Why did he always hide? Well, a lot of reasons. Hiding is how one stays safe. If you're hidden, you can't get hurt. If you're hidden, others won't find and expose you.
"I'm not sure what you mean," Dimentio decided to say, though that was a blatant lie. He knew exactly what Luigi was talking about.
But instead of pointing out the fact that Dimentio always wore a mask, as the jester thought he would, Luigi instead said, "Why don't you let the world see you? Not just your face, but who you are. Your personality. Why don't you let the world see it?"
A weird way of phrasing, 'why on earth do you wear a mask you weirdo,' but perhaps that wasn't what Luigi was saying. He was wondering why Dimentio hid in general. Not just his appearance, but who he was.
"... The world isn't kind to people like me," Dimentio finally answered, looking down to the flowers beneath his feet.
"How will you know that if you hide from it?" Luigi pressed.
"Because I see the way the world is," Dimentio stated. "I've seen how it treats people. People leave. People lie."
Luigi waited a moment, then carefully took Dimentio's hands in his own, offering another sweet smile. "I promise... I'll never do that. You don't have to hide from me too."
And you know what? A small part of Dimentio really did believe him.
