Who Are You?
Nastasia showed Luigi his room, which was not actually a room, but an old closet that had been cleared out as if she already had expected him to move in. There was a small bed, but that was all. On the bed was a single folded outfit, a black jumpsuit with a green bandana, as well as a new hat and a black mask. However, though Luigi appreciated the thoughtfulness of her going out of the way to buy him clothes, he simply said that he preferred to continue to wear his old clothing.
Nastasia didn't quite appreciate this. She said that the change in clothing was mandatory and a safety precaution.
Though how? Luigi did not know and Nastasia did not specify.
But, seeing as it wasn't a very big deal, he did as she asked and changed into the outfit. He didn't quite like the mask or the different hat, as it didn't quite feel like it belonged with him, but he guessed he could get used to it. And who knows? Perhaps the change in outfits would give him a new perspective. Perhaps it would help him write his song faster. Actually, this whole new environment was exciting! Perhaps it would inspire him!
Nastasia told him that she would be calling him by another name, saying that it was another 'safety precaution.' However, this was more difficult to get used to than the outfit. She called him 'Mr. L,' and instructed everyone else to call him that as well.
So when it came to introducing himself to the other minions, he used L as his name for nearly all of them. He never called himself Luigi per Nastasia's request, but he never said Mr. L either, as the Mr made it seem to formal.
Nastasia had already explained to all of the others that they had a new member joining their team, but she never took the time to actually introduce Luigi to everyone, so he had to do that on his own. He waited until the next morning had come to greet his new companions.
He met Mimi and O'Chunks at the same time, as they were both eating breakfast in the dining room. They both seemed fairly kind. They were both super loud as well. O'Chunks was difficult to understand through his strong accent, but Luigi liked it. It felt like it gave the big guy personality. And Mimi spoke pretty fast. She had a cutesy and girly way of speaking. When they first met she couldn't stop marveling about how much she loved Luigi's eyes and how the green color of his bandana complimented his peaceful personality.
When he asked about the empty seat across from his own at the table, Nastasia simply stated that the other minion of the count never truly ate with them. He wasn't quite hungry for food, but rather perfection. He usually ate on his own. Nastasia used the word "lone," quite a lot when describing this other minion.
Death was slightly humored by this, as he thought it was an inaccurate description. The hags were always constantly singing in the back of this minion's mind. He was never truly alone.
Luigi was already interested in this other minion before he even met him. He was curious as to why he was "alone" all the time. Why he seemed to avoid everyone. Why he was forcing loneliness on himself.
After the quick meal, which was not enough to fill him, Luigi eventually found his way to the roof, looking up at the dark, starless sky.
Was there not a glimmer of light up here?
"There never is," Death explained, suddenly appearing next to the man in green and seemingly reading his thoughts. "There is no spring or fall. It's either winter, where it's only cold and dark, or it's summer, where it's blazing hot yet still dark. Nothing between."
"How... how will the flowers bloom then?" Luigi asked, sitting down with his feet over the edge.
"They don't. Flowers rarely bloom anywhere anymore. Haven't you noticed?" Death pointed out.
Luigi did. He did notice. And it broke his heart. It was like all worlds, not JUST this dimension, but ALL of them were broken. That's why he needed to finish the song so bad. But how? How could he finish it without the right inspiration? He tried and tried and tried, but could never find what he needed to find.
Until he looked up.
And there it was. Or more specifically, there he was.
He was just sitting up there, alone against the sky, looking out into the darkness as if something may be out there.
Their eyes hadn't even met yet. But... Luigi could already feel something. He looked up to the sky... and though they had never met, it was like he was someone he had always known.
"Who... who's that?" Luigi asked Death. "Do you know him?
"Yes." Death plainly replied.
"Really?! Who is he?!" Luigi asked, a glint of excitement in his eyes. "Can you tell me about him?!"
"No." Death plainly replied yet again, which earned a disappointing glance from Luigi. But this didn't last long, as he quickly looked back up to the sky, watching the person.
He didn't speak to him. He didn't grab his attention in any way. Luigi just sat there and stared.
Another day had passed. Death followed Luigi closely for a while since the situation was new and interesting. He had never seen Luigi quite like this. He wasn't working on his song quite as much as he was before. It was like he was distracted by this new person.
The person wore strange attire and covered his face with a mask, but Luigi didn't seem to care. It mattered not. Whenever they passed in the halls Luigi just silently stared as the other guy seemed not to notice, too busy spending time in his own mind. Until...
The man was simply standing in the mirror hall, looking at his reflection, when Luigi silently walked in, looking at the guy with a longing expression.
He then took a piece of paper from his pocket, which he stole from the recycling, where Nastasia often threw her old schedules. He then twisted the corners so it would form a stem, then ripped the paper to form petals, making quite a trashy-looking paper flower.
It was actually quite humorous, but also cute in a way. No, it was no real flower. But it was the thought that counted, right?

Death lightly smiled, then nodded over at the jester.
Death: You wanna talk to him?
Luigi: Yes!
Death: Go on...
Luigi quickly started forward, when Death suddenly grabbed his shoulder.
Death: Luigi?
Luigi: Yes?
Death paused, then gently let go.
Death: Don't come on too strong...
Luigi paused, then smiled and nodded, rushing over and holding the paper flower out to Dimentio.
Luigi: Come home with me!
The jester quickly turned around and gave the man in green a confused look.
Dimentio: Who are you?
Luigi: The man who's gonna marry you
I'm Luigi...
He used his real name.
Dimentio: Are you always like this?
Death: Yes.
Dimentio nodded as if he could hear Death, which he could not.
Dimentio: I'm Dimentio
Luigi: Your name is like a melody
Dimentio: A singer, is that what you are?
Luigi: I also play the lyre.
Dimentio: Oh, a liar, AND a player too!
I've met too many like you
Luigi: Oh, no
I'm not like that
Death: He's not like any man you've met
Tell him what you're workin' on
Luigi: I'm working on a song...
It isn't finished yet
But when it's done and when I'll sing it
Spring will come again
Dimentio: Come again?
Luigi: Spring will come
Dimentio: When? I haven't seen a spring or fall since...
I can't recall
Luigi: That's what I'm working on.
A song to fix what's wrong
Take what's broken, make it whole
A song so beautiful
It brings the world back into tune
Back into time
And all the flowers will bloom...
When you become my husband
Dimentio: Oh, he's crazy. Why would I become his husband?
Death sighed and walked behind Dimentio, softly whispering in the jester's ear.
Death: Maybe because he'll make you feel alive
Dimentio briefly cocked his head to the side with the word alive bouncing around in his mind, even though he couldn't truly hear Death.
Dimentio: Alive? That's worth a lot...
What else ya got?

Luigi's smile brightened as he continued holding the paper flower out to Dimentio, a look of wonder in his eyes as Dimentio crossed his arms, sarcasm lining his voice.
Dimentio: Lover, tell me if you can
Who's gonna buy the wedding bands?
Times being what they are
Hard and getting harder all the time
Luigi: Lover, when I sing my song
All the rivers will sing along
And they're gonna break their banks for us
And with their gold, be generous!
All a-flashing in the pan, all to fashion for your hand
The river's gonna give us the wedding bands
Dimentio rolled his eyes and scoffed, slowly taking a few steps forward, looking into Luigi's remarkable blue eyes, which matched the color of a spring sky. It had been too long since he had seen the spring sky.
Dimentio: Lover, tell me if you're able
Who's gonna lay the wedding table?
Times being what they are
Dark and getting darker all the time
Luigi: Lover, when I sing my song
All the trees gonna sing along
And they're gonna bend their branches down
To lay their fruit upon the ground
The almond and the apple
And the sugar from the maple
The tree's gonna lay the wedding table
The jester shook his head and pinched the bridge of his masked nose. If he was smart he would have just teleported away, but it was almost funny to him how naive Luigi was acting, and a part of the jester wanted to hear the man in green out, just to humor himself. After all, he could use a laugh or two in his already lonesome life.
He wasn't quite sure if Luigi had some sort of brain injury or if he in fact was just this stupid. Either way, it was quite entertaining. Definitely something one wouldn't see every day. Luigi was different, Dimentio would give him that.
But he was promising QUITE a lot.
And promises only ever led to disappointment.
Dimentio: So when you sing your song
The one you're working on
Spring will come again?
Luigi: Yes!
Dimentio: Why don't you sing it then?
Luigi: It isn't finished
Dimentio paused, then nodded at the guitar.
Dimentio: Sing it.
You wanna take me home?
Luigi: Yes.
Dimentio: Sing the song.
Luigi sighed, then pulled out his guitar, still holding the paper flower with the same hand he held the top of the guitar with. He then started gently playing chords, closing his eyes and trying to come up with the melody he had been working on.
Luigi: La la la la la la la...
He continued playing, gently relaxing his face and allowing the melody to come more naturally.
Luigi: La la la la la la la...
Dimentio rolled his eyes again and crossed his arms, unimpressed as Luigi continued playing and vocalizing. But... after a moment, Luigi's voice wasn't the only voice he could hear. Even though they were alone, it was almost like the room was filled with voices, singing along with Luigi as he played his unfinished song. The jester slowly lowered his arms, confused as to how the heck Luigi was doing that.
It was almost mesmerizing for a moment.
Suddenly, the paper flower turned real, becoming a soft, living tulip. A blend of all colors. Warm ones, cold ones, everything. Luigi quickly opened his eyes and looked at it in awe. Dimentio's eyes wore the same expression.
Dimentio: How'd you do that?
Luigi: I don't know
The song's not finished though...
Dimentio carefully took the flower from Luigi's hand and looked down at it in awe.
Dimentio: Even so, it can do this?
Luigi: I know-
Dimentio: You have to finish it!
He quickly looked up at Luigi, his tone less sarcastic than before.
Was this the answer?
Dimentio: Lover, tell me, when we're wed
Who's gonna make the wedding bed?
Times being what they are
Hard and getting harder all the time
Luigi: Lover, when I sing my song
All the birds gonna sing along
And they'll come flying from all around
To lay their feathers on the ground
And we'll lie down safe in sound,
A pillow 'neath our heads
The bird's gonna make the wedding bed
Dimentio softly smiled at the flower.
Dimentio: And the tree's gonna lay the wedding table
Luigi: And the rivers gonna give us the wedding bands
Dimentio paused, then looked up from the flower to Luigi.
Could... could the song of this strange man really fix everything? Could this song really bring a perfect world back?
