Raise Your Head Up
(AN: Another one of my favorite songs!)
Jaydes just stood still, shaking her head no as Grambi waited there, both of them just seeming to be locked in this moment of silence, neither backing down. Neither of them giving up and letting the other win. This wasn't a big deal, but when it came down to it, Jaydes was not about to let a rule be broken for something as simple as a poor mortal boy singing for love. All the while, Grambi was not about to let love be broken all for something as simple as a rule.
He was sure that he wouldn't be able to convince Jaydes on his own, but he'd at least try. He couldn't keep letting her do whatever she wanted. It was about time he spoke up.
"You should go home," Jaydes eventually said, turning away. "I will not be letting the shayde go. That is final."
"Jaydes," Grambi started. "This is so insignificant. It is just a mortal!"He exclaimed. "There is no harm!"
"But there is," Jaydes snapped back. "How can't you see the harm in this? If I were to let the shayde go, I would be a spineless queen, and sooner or later ALL the shaydes would want to be let go, and Jaydestown would fall apart. The UNDERWHERE would all fall apart, and I can not have that! I can not let the kingdom fall for something as insignificant as this! Why are you even arguing against me! I thought you of all people would be on my side."
"I AM on your side," Grambi exclaimed. "I've always been on your side. But this mortal doesn't care about the Underwhere or Jaydestown. All the poor boy wants is love! It's LOVE, Jaydes. Can't you make one exception for him?! Can't you have a heart for once?!"
"I already made an exception for him," Jaydes pointed out. "Don't you know that Death already gives him enough chances? This boy already has Death wrapped around his finger, he can't take you too! This boy is walking all over us, Grambi!"
"He's just a mortal! It is not like he could actually affect your precious kingdom. It isn't like he's asking much-" Grambi started, when he was suddenly cut off by the sound of something forming in the distance.

Jaydes furrowed her eyebrows as the ground gently shook, almost as if a small earthquake had started.
Death: Now everybody knows that walls have ears
Luigi: Is it true?
Timpani and Blumiere: Is it true?
Jaydes: What's that noise?
The queen frowned and went out to the balcony to see what was going on, Grambi behind her.
Death: And the walls had heard what the boy was saying
Luigi: Is it true?
Timpani, Blumiere, and Dimentio: Is it true?
Jaydes: It's the boy!
Jaydes immediately clenched her fists and ran down the stairs so she could confront Luigi and take care of this.
Death: A million tons of stone and steel...
Luigi: Is it true?
Shaydes: Is it true?
Death: Echoed his refrain...
Luigi slowly but surely walked towards the castle, confidence in his steps and an army of friends behind him, there to catch him should he fall.
Shaydes: Low, keep your head, keep your head low
Oh, you gotta keep your head low
If you wanna keep your head
Oh, you gotta keep your head low
Keep your head, keep your head low
Oh, you gotta keep your head low
If you wanna keep your head
Oh, you gotta-
Timpani and Shaydes: Why do we turn away when our brother is bleeding?
Shaydes: Oh, keep your head-
Blumiere and Shaydes: Why do we build the wall and then call it freedom?
Shaydes: Oh, keep your head-
Timpani and Blumiere: If we're free
Tell me why
I can't look in my lover's eye?
Shaydes: Keep your head-
Jaydes suddenly burst out of the castle, walking towards Luigi, then circling him and Dimentio.
Jaydes: Young man
Got to hand it to you
Guess you don't scare easy, do ya'?
Are you brave or stupid, son?
Doesn't matter which one
'Cus it seems your song made quite a strong impression on my king
But it takes more than singing songs to keep a man in your arms
Take it from a woman no longer young
If you want to hold a man, son
Hang a chain around his throat
Made of many carat gold
Shackle him from wrist to wrist
With sterling silver bracelets
Fill his pockets full of stones
Precious ones, diamonds
Bind him with a golden band
Take it from an old woman
She then turned away as Luigi and the shaydes raised their fists into the air.
Luigi and Shaydes: Ooohhh,
Luigi: If I raise my voice-
Timpani: If I raise my voice-
Blumiere: If I raise my voice-
Shaydes: Keep your head low
Dimentio: If I raise my head-
Timpani: If I raise my head-
Blumiere: If I raise my head-
Shaydes: Keep your head low
Dimentio: Could I change my fate?
Timpani: Could I change-
Blumiere: Could I change-
Shaydes: Could I change my fate?
Oh, you gotta keep your head low
Luigi: If I raise my voice could I-
Shaydes: Keep your head low!
Luigi and Dimentio: Could I change the way it is?
Shaydes: Why do we-
Timpani: Turn away instead of standing with him?
Shaydes: Low, keep your head
Blumiere: Why are we digging our own graves for a living?
Shaydes: Low, keep your head
Timpani and Blumiere: If we're free
Tell me why
We can't even stand upright?
Shaydes: If we're free
Tell me when
We can stand with our fellow man
Keep your head-
Jaydes: YOUNG MAN,
I was young once too
Sang a song with love like you
Son, I too, was left behind
Turned on one too many times
Now I sing a different song
One I can depend upon
A simple tune, a steady beat
The music of machinery
Do you hear that heavy metal sound?
The symphony of Jaydestown
And in this symphony of mine
Of power chords and power lines
Young man, you can strum your lyre
I have strung the world in wire
Young man, you can sing your ditty
I CONDUCT THE ELECTRIC CITY!
Jaydes paused as Grambi watched from the balcony, waiting to see what she would do.
The queen slowly smiled, then walked closer to Luigi, towering over the mortal.
Jaydes: I'll tell you what, young man
Since my king is such a fan
And since I'm going to count to three
And put you out of your misery
Shaydes and Jaydes: One!
Jaydes: Give me one more song
One more song before I send you
Shaydes and Jaydes: Two!
Jaydes: To the great beyond
Where nobody can hear you singing
Shaydes and Jaydes: Three!
Jaydes: Sing a song for me
Make me laugh, make me weep
Make the queen feel young again
Sing for an old woman...
~ Music Stop 4:01 ~
All the shaydes went silent. In fact, all of Jaydestown went silent as Jaydes pointed at Luigi, waiting for him to make his move.
Dimentio grasped the man in green's hand, afraid of letting him go. Afraid of letting the queen hurt him again. Afraid of the idea of her sending him away. Blumiere, Timpani, and the rest of the shaydes stood behind the pair, waiting for further instruction from Luigi. Waiting for him to lead them and tell them what to do next.
The only thing was, he DIDN'T know what to do next.
He had to sing, right? She told him to sing. He had to sing. He had to get his song.
He needed to finish it. Right now. He had everything to lose. He had to get it done. It was now or never.
Death watched intently, waiting for the scene to continue. Waiting for Luigi to make his move. The queen had him in check. She had the power to kill him. REALLY kill him. Not just making him a shayde, but sending him to the great beyond. Death after death, as he called it. She had the power to completely wipe him from existence, leaving behind nothing but memories of what was once a moral.
And if she did do this, Death would be powerless to stop it. He himself didn't have that power. All he could really do was teleport, go wherever he wished in time, and hand out train tickets. And when he went back in time, he wasn't allowed or able to interfere or change anything. He tried. He tried so hard, but he could never actually make changes. It was almost limiting. To have powers, but not be able to make a change.
If Jaydes sent Luigi away to the great beyond, there would be no fixing it. No undoing it. No taking it back.
Luigi's face was still covered in his own blood, most of it dried now. He was still bruised and hurt. But he hadn't given up.
Why hadn't he given up, Jaydes wondered.
Why did he insist on coming back? Love wasn't worth that much pain. Love wasn't worth his own life. So why? Why was he so persistent? Why couldn't he just leave Jaydestown alone, instead of causing her all this trouble?
Now, even her shaydes were rising up and speaking out?! This wasn't right! She needed those shaydes! Without them, everything would fall apart. Her world and home were built upon the shaydes backs. They were Jaydestown's foundation.
How DARE he fill their heads. How DARE he lead them. Who did he think he was. Who was he to walk this path? No other mortal had done it, so why should he? Why should he raise his voice?
She didn't care if he was some legendary hero of the prophecy. She didn't care that he was the man in green. She didn't care that he helped save all worlds. All she cared about was that he was directly affecting her home Kingdom.
If Luigi was ever going to finish the song, now would be the time. Because, looking at the way things were going, he probably had about six minutes left to live.
Six minutes, starting now.
