Promises
Luigi carefully took Dimentio forward as the sun seemed to set over the hills, the beautiful colors of orange, and blue mixing. The horizon was a bright red color, the clouds pink like chalk smeared across the sky. The top of the sky, a shade of dark blue showing that night was coming. But it wasn't quite sad. Instead of dreading the sun leaving, Dimentio actually found himself welcoming the stars and the dark blue night sky, which was almost clear, minus the pink clouds.
There was no one he had to hide from up here. There was no wind. No cold and no rain. Just clear skies and warmth and the feeling of Luigi's comforting hands grasping his own. For once, he almost saw what Luigi saw. He almost could see the way the world could be, rather than what it was.
So, he took his mask off.
He didn't need to hide here.
And to this, Luigi smiled, placing a gentle hand on the side of Dimentio's face. Because in his eyes, it was more beautiful than all the flowers and stars combined. Far more beautiful than any sunset the land could offer. Far more beautiful than the ocean waves or the mountain tops.
And the look in Luigi's eyes? Equally as beautiful.

Death teleported himself just out of sight, watching from afar with an almost longing look in his eyes. A soft, proud smile was what he was wearing.
Death: Luigi was a poor boy
He briefly paused, allowing his smile to soften to a smaller one, but not quite disappear.
Death: But he had a gift to give
He could make you see how the world could be.
The god took a deep breath, then looked down upon the perfect flower fields.
Death: In spite of the way that it is,
And Dimentio was a young man
But he'd seen how the world was
When he fell
He fell in spite of himself
In love with Luigi
Dimentio then pulled away and looked down, lightly smiling to himself, almost appalled by how quickly he had fallen.
Dimentio: I was alone so long
I didn't even know that I was lonely.
He sighed, then held his hand up, feeling the soft, warm breeze blow through his fingertips.
Dimentio: Out in the cold so long
I didn't even know that I was cold
Turned my collar to the wind,
This is how it's always been.
All I've ever known is how to hold my own.
He waited for a minute, then turned back to Luigi, an almost regretful look in his eyes.
Dimentio: All I've ever known is how to hold my own
But now I wanna hold you, too
The jester then walked back to the man in green, and naturally, Luigi grasped his hands, as if it was where he was meant to be. It was as if this moment was the perfect world they both strived to create.
Dimentio: You take me in your arms
And suddenly there's sunlight all around me
Everything bright and warm
And shining like it never did before
He lightly sighed, then looked down at their connected hands, shaking his head.
Dimentio: And for a moment I forget
Just how dark and cold it gets
All I've ever known is how to hold my own
He paused a moment, then looked back up at Luigi, pulling the man in green slightly closer.
Dimentio: All I've ever known is how to hold my own
But now I wanna hold you
Now I wanna hold you
Hold you close
I don't ever wanna have to let you go
Now I wanna hold you, hold you tight
I don't wanna go back to the lonely life
Luigi beamed, then let go of the jester's hands and grabbed his shoulders, turning him so they were both facing the setting sun, then gently hugging him from behind as they gazed out to the horizon.
Luigi: I don't know how or why
Or who am I that I should get to hold you
But when I saw you all alone against the sky
It's like I'd known you all along.
I knew you before we met
And I don't even know you yet
All I know is you're someone I have always known
Dimentio paused, then leaned his head into Luigi, still looking out at the sky.
Both: All I know is you're someone I have always known
And I don't even know you
Now I wanna hold you, hold you close
I don't wanna ever have to let you go
Dimentio: Suddenly there's sunlight
Bright and warm
Luigi: Suddenly I'm holding the world in my arms
Luigi then lightly turned his head to Dimentio's, hesitating a moment, but eventually deciding to be brave and gently place a soft kiss on the jester's forehead. Dimentio didn't shy away from as he expected himself to.
In fact, he finally felt at home. He didn't want this moment to end.
Happiness. This was true happiness. As true as the prophecies in the Light and Dark Prognosticus. As true as the sun and moon. As true as the gentle beauty of the flowers beneath his heels.
This was safe. This was warm. This was happy. This was everything he had ever thought he could have ever wanted in the world and more.
His only wish was that it could always be like this. Not just for himself, but for everyone everywhere. He wished he could always feel this way. A neverending high feeling of love. A feeling so new, yet he felt like it was always meant to be felt.
Perhaps he was fated to meet Luigi. Perhaps Luigi was the answer. He was the answer to the perfect world. Him and his song. Perhaps the world was finally done showing its worst to him.
Luigi made him feel safe and secure. Like the wind couldn't blow him away from here. No storm could hurt him.
Dimentio: Say that you'll hold me forever,
Say that the wind won't change on us,
Say that we'll stay with each other
And it will always be like this
Luigi: I'm gonna hold you forever
The wind will never change on us
Long as we stay with each other
Both: Then it will always be like this...
~ Music End ~
"Yes, so many promises..." Death softly trailed off, looking down in an almost melancholic look on his face. He then waved his hand, leaving the two in their happy moment. After all, it was time Luigi live his own life without Death constantly looming over his shoulder, keeping him safe from any harm or threats. He was an adult now. Had been one for a while.
The god was proud. Proud, like a parent of a child finally leaving the nest and flying away to become their own person. Proud of Luigi for starting to step out of the shadows and begin his own journey. His own story.
Proud, and saddened. Saddened by the known fact that not all promises could be kept. Promises were made to be broken.
But who knew. Maybe this time they wouldn't be. Maybe this time a promise could be kept. After all, this was Luigi. Bright, hopeful, kind Luigi. He could do something as simple as keeping a promise, right?
Deep down Death really hoped so. He truly hoped this could work out.
