(AN: ANOTHER One of my favorite songs)
Luigi fell to his knees, his eyes open and wide, filled with shock as he remained frozen.
He didn't yell. He didn't cry. He didn't fight.
He just sat there, the shaydes all looking at him with heartbreak in their eyes.
So much for freedom...
Two D-Men suddenly came running up to the man in green, grabbing his shoulders and dragging him backward, kicking the dimensional door open and throwing him out. He didn't fight them. He didn't struggle.
He lost.
The door shut and locked right in front of his eyes. He watched as it closed and made a locking noise. He couldn't get back in. He watched the door shut on all the shaydes. On Blumiere and Timpani. On everyone.
The sky was grey. The air was dark and cold.
He stood up...
And that was that.

All the shaydes were sent back to Jaydestown. Their hope quickly plummeted to nothing.
Death watched, sitting at the train station with a disappointed look on his face as melancholy filled the Underwhere. Emptiness began to flood into the souls as all the new memories they made seemed to seep away.
But they didn't shun the emptiness. It was actually preferable to the surge of heartbreak and disappointment. Anything felt better than the feeling they were all feeling just a moment ago.
It hurt... it hurt to have been so close, to be so filled with hope and light.
They were so... so close. Just ten more steps. Ten more steps and they could have made it.
Death: A'ight
He slowly got up, watching as the shaydes slowly picked up their pickaxes...
And began working on the wall.
Death: It's an old song...
They began working as they did before because working was safe. The wall had never let them down. The wall had never given them a false sense of hope.
Death: It's an old tale...
From way back when...
He watched as Dimentio sat with his back to the wall, looking up at the dark sky and shaking his head in disbelief.
Death: It's an old song...
Disappointment filled the air.
How could he? How could Luigi turn?
Death: And that is how it ends.
The god took a deep breath and swallowed, trying to keep his voice steady.
Death: That's how it goes
Don't ask me why, brother, don't ask how...
He shook his eyes and looked down, feeling a tear fall from his face and onto the ground.
Death: He could have come so close...
The song was written long ago...
He shook his head, wiping the tears and straightening his back, forcing himself to shrug.
Death: And that is how it goes.
He took a small breath, grabbing his cane with a shaking hand and walking closer to the wall, watching as all the shaydes resumed their working, as they were before.
Death: It's a sad song...
It's a sad tale...
He looked down at Dimentio as the shayde slowly forgot himself. Forgot his life... his love, his everything.
Death: It's a tragedy
The tragedy... the tragedy was not dying. It was forgetting. Forgetting had always stung worse than dying had. Because when someone forgot... that was when they were truly gone.
Death: It's a sad song...
He then cleared his throat, stopping right in front of Dimentio. The shayde didn't look at him in return. His eyes seemed almost empty now.
His eyes used to be so unique. So different. So special...
Death: But we sing it anyway
Dimentio's gaze slowly shifted from the sky and over to Death, who was smiling down at him. The god then offered a hand, helping Dimentio to his feet.
All the other shaydes worked as if nothing changed.
But things... they weren't the same as they were before.
Death: 'Cause here's the thing
To know how it ends
And still begin to sing it again...
As if it might turn out this time
The god then turned his head, looking over at a shayde with curly hair as she worked.
Death: I learned that from a friend of mine,
Things would never be the same...
For instance...
Timpani and Blumiere still held their hands together as they worked. Even if they didn't know who the other was... they didn't let go.
Even if they never spoke to one another again, they didn't let go.
Death softly smiled at them as he let Dimentio go and walked along the wall, holding his hand out to it and tracing it with his fingers.
Death: See, Luigi was a poor boy
Dimentio furrowed his eyebrows as the god went, trying to remember himself when he recalled something small he had once said.
Dimentio: Anybody got a match?
Death softly smiled, briefly turning and tossing a small match to Dimentio, as he did a lifetime ago
Death: But he had a gift to give
The match fell to the ground, and by instinct, Dimentio kneeled to pick it up.
Dimentio: Gimme that
Death: He could make you see how the world could be
In spite of the way that it is...
Can you see it?
The shaydes all hummed along, still working on their wall.
Death: Can you HEAR IT?
Death clenched his fists, yelling as loud as he could because he wanted them to hear him. He wanted them to feel again.
Death: CAN YOU FEEL IT?!
Like a train,
He began to quiver as held his hands out, his voice suddenly quiet and smooth again.
Death: Is it coming?
Is it coming this way?
He then clapped his hands and began strutting towards the train station, where Luvbi and Grambi were getting ready to head off to the Overthere for springtime.
Death: On a sunny day, there was a railroad car...
This time, Jaydes let Luvbi go on time. They wouldn't be late.
Death: And a young lady steppin' on a train...
He held his hand out to Luvbi and helped her onto the train cart as she smiled in return.
Death: Everybody looked and everybody saw
And in return, the sun slowly came out.
Death: That spring had come again...
He bowed and let Luvbi's hand go as she stepped aboard with her father.
Death: With a love song...
Luvbi: With a love song...
Shaydes: With a love song
Death: With a tale of a love from long ago!!!
He stepped back and waved farewell as the train doors shut, the engine starting up to take them away and make room for the next train coming.
Death: It's a sad song...
Shaydes: It's a sad song...
Luvbi: It's a sad song.
Death: But we keep singin' even so...
He then turned, holding his arms out to all the shaydes working on the wall.
Death: It's an old song!
Timpani and Blumiere: It's an old song...
Shaydes: It's an old song
Death: It's an old tale from way back when...
He slowly lowered his hands, smiling at all of them, even though the ending was sad.
Death: And we're gonna sing it
Death and Shaydes: Again and again
Death: We're gonna sing, we're gonna sing
Shaydes: It's a love song...
Blumiere and Timpani: It's a love song...
Death: It's a love song...
Jaydes: It's a love song...
Shaydes: It's a tale of a love from long ago...
Death rushed back to the shayde with curly hair, grabbing her hands and pulling her forward, away from the wall and out so all could see.
Shaydes: It's a sad song
Evette: It's a sad song...
Evette and Death: It's a sad song!!
Shaydes: We keep singing even so...
Death let the shayde go as another train pulled up, opening its doors.
Shaydes: It's an old song...
Dimentio and Jaydes: It's an old song
Death: It's an old, old, OLD
Death and Shaydes: Old tale from way back when,
The god of death then turned on his heels, tipping his hat to Dimentio and all the shaydes.
Death: And we're gonna sing it
Death and Everyone: Again and again!
The god then rushed into the open doors of the train, turning around to face out as to everyone, placing his cane on the floor in front of him and smiling.
Death: We're gonna sing it again.
The doors then shut, and the train took him away.
Took him away, back to the beginning.
