A First Glance at Jaydestown

Jaydes came too soon. She came too soon for Luvbi. She had nearly cut summertime in half! And Grambi didn't even seem to care enough to stop it. He didn't even greet or see her as she came for Luvbi. She was just there one minute and gone the next. It was as if he just let her do as she wished to avoid getting into a fight. To avoid an argument. But because of it, all worlds were plunged back into winter too soon. They had no time to prepare.

Dimentio could feel the sudden chill in the air as he continued to stand there, alone. He hadn't yet found the courage to give Mario and the other heroes the same treatment yet. Though he knew he was running out of time.

He wasn't sure if the chill was from the weight of what he had just done hitting him or if it was from the change in the weather. He slowly blinked, then looked up at the empty, white sky.

"... Winter?" He softly muttered to himself, frowning. "But it's so soon..."

He continued to frown, shaking his head and feeling the once warm air turn to ice all around him. He felt a pit form in his stomach as a burning sensation filled his lungs, loneliness eating him away. "It's not supposed to be like this..." He whispered. Because a whisper was all he could seem to manage.

But, he knew that until someone brought the world back into tune, this is how it would be.

He truly hoped that Luigi would return and/or finish that song of his quickly. He could feel the winds change around him. He could feel the cold strike. There was a storm gathering, and not a real one. A storm of prophecies and destruction.

It was okay though. He trusted that Luigi could win. He trusted that Luigi could finish the song. So, he snapped his fingers, heading for Flipside. Heading for the heroes.

Meanwhile, the train finally made its way down to Jaydestown, dropping Luigi off way down under, as well as Jaydes and Luvbi, who were immediately escorted to the Castle. Luigi himself carefully looked around the aftergame as he stepped off the train. He had never seen the other side of the railroad, but this was nothing like he had imagined.

It was like a bright neon city. There were lights, there was heating. It wasn't cold, even though it was wintertime. And there was being a big wall built around all these riches where a river once stood.

All the other recently deceased souls were quickly ushered to a court-like area where they would likely sign the papers and be turned into shaydes, which would spend their days either mining or building. But with Death's help, Luigi was able to sneak out of that, holding his guitar to himself as he walked and waited for his brother to come down after him.

Death himself had to leave to actually do his job, handing tickets out. So Luigi was on his own for a short while.

So... now seemed like a good time to work on his song. He carefully pulled his guitar out, briefly tuning it, then he let out a breath.

He took a look at all his surroundings, and let the words flow.

He lightly hit a cord, taking a short breath.

Luigi: Queen of silver,
Queen of gold
And everything glittering
Under the ground

The man in green looked up around himself at the large city which was almost being run like a factory.

Luigi: Jaydes is queen
Of oil and coal
And the riches that flow
Where those rivers are found,

He slowly began to walk forward, ignoring his surroundings and playing from the heart.

Luigi: But for half of the year with Luvbi gone
Her loneliness moves in her crude and black
She thinks of her daughter in the arms of the sun
And jealousy fuels her
And feeds her and fills her
With doubt that she'll ever come
Dread that she'll never come
Doubt that young Luvbi,
Will ever come back...

Luigi briefly paused, then walked to the edge of Jaydestown, looking up at the wall separating the city from the rest of the aftergame.

Luigi: Queen of mortar
Queen of bricks
The River Twygz is a river of stones.

He paused, then looked down at the group of shaydes carrying stones and building up the large wall.

Luigi: And Jaydes lays them high and thick
With a million hands that are not her own
With a million hands, she builds a wall
Around all the riches she digs from the Earth
The pickaxe flashes
The hammer falls
And crashing and pounding
As rivers surround her,
And drown out the sound of the song she once heard,
La la la la la la la...

He began walking alongside the wall as he listened to the shaydes work and labor.

Luigi: La la la la la la la...
La la la la la la la...
La la la la la la-

He was suddenly interrupted by the sound of the train coming around once again. He quickly jerked his head back towards the station he came from, then left the wall and the shaydes behind, rushing over and hoping to find his brother. Meanwhile, the shaydes continued working and laboring, as if they hardly even noticed that he was there. It was like they didn't even see or hear him. It was almost sad. Like they were empty canvases, just doing as they were ordered to.

Luigi quickly ran to the station to see who, but Mario, stepping off the train with a confused look on his face.

"Why the heck couldn't I go to the Overthere with Peach?!" Mario questioned Death, almost looking annoyed. "I thought that I had lived a pretty sin-free life. I mean, I literally save people all the time." Death merely shrugged, ushering everyone off the train as the man in red continued rambling to himself. "And why was Bowser sent to the 'Underwhere,' while I was sent to Jaydestown?!"

"Simple," Death replied. "He's pretty monstrous and strong, so his soul is being locked away someplace else."

Mario just harumphed and looked down, clearly annoyed with Death because he was being sent down here instead of getting another free chance at life. What the heck was that all about?! Since when was Death a rule follower?! This was totally unfair-

"Mario?" Luigi asked, pushing through the crowd of newly departed souls. His eyes lit up at the sight of his brother once again and he immediately rushed forward, grabbing Mario's shoulders and pulling the man in red into a tight embrace. He hadn't thought of it much before this moment, but he really did miss his brother. It was so great to finally be seeing him again.

"Luigi...?" Mario questioned, a confused look on his face. "W-What are you doing down here?! Where have you been?!"

"Oh, just working on my song," Luigi answered, pulling back and still smiling brightly. To this, Mario lightly laughed. Of course, that was what Luigi had been doing all this time.

"Well listen to this. I've been on this adventure, collecting pure hearts and stuff so I could close this weird void thing when suddenly this jester dude showed up and killed me! AND, the worst part, DEATH ACTUALLY GAVE ME A TICKET! HE DIDN'T GIVE ME A SECOND CHANCE OR ANYTHING!"

"Say it louder, I don't think the people in the Overthere could quite hear you," Death muttered, rubbing his temples in an annoyed manner. Luigi just lightly laughed and shook his head, placing a hand on his brother's shoulders.

"Mario, don't be too upset. I was the one who told that jester to kill you, and I was the one who made Death give you a ticket," Luigi clarified, earning an utterly shocked and almost betrayed look from Mario.

"Um, excuse me?!" Mario asked, carefully taking a step back and brushing Luigi's arm off his shoulder. "You WHAT?!"

"Oh, no, no. It's not what you think!" Luigi specified. "You're down here so we can take the pure heart to queen Jaydes and have it fixed."

Mario's expression softened slightly, but he still looked somewhat annoyed. "Luigi, there were probably other solutions to this problem that DIDN'T involve us all getting brutally murdered by Dimentio. How did you even meet him and tell him to kill us?!"

"Eh... it's a long story," Luigi nervously laughed, scratching the back of his neck, then grabbing Mario's arm and pulling him away from the crowd. "Now come on, we've got an adventure in front of us!"

And not long after, they were able to successfully get the pure heart to Queen Jaydes and get their lives handed back to them for the sake of all worlds. She was a little hesitant since she wasn't one to break rules. She didn't want to give herself a bad reputation as a queen. But she also didn't wish to be the cause of the end of all life as the worlds knew it, so she let it slide JUST THIS ONCE.

She made it very clear to everyone that this wasn't a usual thing, however. She was not one to just be handing out second chances. But when it came to this, she let them go because they had yet to sign the papers and become shaydes AND the fate of the worlds depended on them.
