Jolt!

Jay was walking down the street with Nya.  They were just having a nice relaxing day together without the others around to bother them.  It was nice for them to be away from them even if it was for a little while.  Don't get Jay wrong, he loves being a ninja, but the job does get stressful and sometimes it was nice to not have to worry about protecting Ninjago for a little while.  Jay knows Nya feels the same way about that which is why Jay had asked Nya if she just wanted to go for a walk, but then they decided they wanted to also have a picnic, so Jay was carrying a picnic basket and Nya was carrying a blanket.

They eventually ended up at the park and found what they believed was the perfect spot.  It was on a nice, open grass field.  It was a perfect spot for them to relax for a little while and actually be a couple.  The picnic was going perfectly.  They were just eating and talking about nothing important.  They had one rule for this picnic: no ninja talk.  They followed that rule the whole time they were eating.  Again, it was nice to be away from all the craziness that comes with being Ninjago's heroes.  Luckily, it seemed like the people that were in the park either didn't notice or didn't care that two of the ninja were having a picnic in the park which they were grateful for.  They were finally able to have some nice romantic time.

That was until they felt the sudden jolt of an earthquake.  It wasn't a small one either.  The ground shook hard for about 30 seconds before it stopped.  Honestly, it felt longer than that to everyone.  Jay and Nya were suddenly glad they had a picnic in an open field with nothing around that could fall on them.  "I guess that earthquake Ninjago had yesterday wasn't there really thing, huh?" Nya said.  "It was a foreshock."

"Looks like it," Jay agreed.  "That was way more powerful."

"We should probably go have a look around after that to make sure people are alright," Nya added.

"There goes our no ninja day," Jay said sullenly.  He was really looking forward to having a day where they didn't need to be heroes, but it looks like that's not happening.  Why does something always need to come along and ruin any good day they might have?  Are they not allowed to have a good day like everybody else?  Apparently not as this earthquake has shown them.

The two ninja quickly left the park and started heading towards the center of Ninjago City to inspect the damage.  They were not expecting what they saw.  To say that Ninjago City looked a mess would be an understatement.  It looked destroyed.  Parts of some buildings had collapsed and you could see some people trapped under debris.

Jay and Nya quickly jumped into action trying to help as many people as they could.  They tried calling the others for more assistance, but phone towers were knocked out and a few power lines had fallen to the ground creating even more of a hazard.  Jay and Nya were trying to be as careful as possible in their emergency rescues to try not to put anyone in more danger than they were already in.  Jay and Nya had seen a lot of disasters happen in Ninjago City, but this had to be one of the worst and they still didn't know where the others were.  They came up with three possible theories about where the others are: 1) the monastery was hit hard by the earthquake also, 2) they are helping other parts of Ninjago that need it, or 3) they are clueless to realize what kind of disaster the earthquake caused.  Jay really hopes it's not the last one, but he knows that it is a real possibility.

After a couple hours of helping citizens, it looked like maybe they had found everyone that was injured and needed assistance.  Jay and Nya decided to both take a look around again to see if there was anyone else they didn't see the first time.  They went in opposite directions to check Ninjago City faster.  Jay was almost done checking his area, when he heard a young girl's voice calling out for help.  Jay looked towards his left, the direction the sound came from, and saw what was a toy shop.  The front of the shop was completely destroyed.  Jay looked through a small hole in the debris and saw a little girl around 5 years old.  "I see you," he told her to hopefully try to calm her down.  He could see the tear tracks on her cheeks.  "Is there anyone with you?"

"No," she said.  Jay's heart broke for how scared she was.  It couldn't be easy being so young in a situation like this.

"I'm going to try to get you out, but I need you to stay calm for me.  Can you do that?"

He saw her nod and then started moving some debris out of the way that looked like it would not make anything else collapse.  He wasn't going to risk this girl's life.  He managed to make a big enough hole that he was able to crawl through to where the little girl was trapped.

"I'm Jay, what's your name?" Jay said when he reached the little girl.

"Faith," she responded.

"Well Faith, I'm going to need you to have a little faith that we'll get out of here."

Faith smiled at that and nodded.

Jay smiled back and inspected her with his eyes to make sure she wasn't hurt.  "I'm going to need you to crawl through that opening I just made, alright?  I'll be right behind you the whole way.  Can you do that for me?"

"Yes," she said and started crawling.  Jay stuck to his word and followed her.

As they were almost out, Jay heard a noise.  He had a feeling what might be happening any second.  "Try to crawl faster," Jay told Faith calmly.  He didn't want to scare her.  She got out safely, but as Jay was about to get out, he heard something snap and braced himself...but nothing ended up hitting him.  He looked up and saw Cole had grabbed the debris that was about to fall on Jay and Lloyd was making sure Faith was alright.  "Took you guys long enough," Jay said as he stood up.

"Sorry," Cole said as he dropped the debris he was holding and it fell to the ground.  "We were didn't realize the damage was so bad."

Jay really wished he wasn't right when he thought that was a possibility.  "Jay!"  He quickly whipped his head around to see Nya running up to him.  She ran into his arms and hugged him tightly.  When she pulled away, she looked him over.  "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine.  I was just saving Faith," Jay said as he pointed to the little girl.

"Awww," Nya cooed.  "She looks adorable."  Nya turned back to Jay.  "Kai and Zane are helping the paramedics with the people that are injured."

"That's good.  Sorry our picnic got ruined."

"It wasn't your fault, but after this, I believe that the others should allow us some time where we're not on call for ninja duty, especially since we were handling this alone for so long."

"I agree with that."

A/N: I hope you enjoyed!
