The Official Leave

Decided to change to first person for this chapter!

The feeling you get when you know someone is out to kill you is not a happy one. It can send you nightmares at night and make you shiver no matter how warm you are. So far, I have felt this feeling for about a week, and every night Saphire appears in my so-called dreams. I look down at my feet, my toe claws digging in the soil beneath my feet causing them to look duller then they usually are. I look behind me to see the cave that we have stayed in for the past few months, every once and a while hearing snores, moans, and tired roars from the sleeping utahraptors inside. It pains me to leave Cora here but if I truly did love her, then I would do what I am doing; I am leaving. If I stay any longer, this pack could be in danger. She has already told me of her deepest secret and would do the same ruthless killing to me as she did to the others. To make sure I was scared of the punishment she has sent me graphic memories from her own mind. I shiver once more at the thought before ruffling my blue feathers and walking away. I do not want to leave, for this pack has given me everything to survive after we were taken to them though it was mostly Cora.

I stop for a moment before taking my sickle claw and etching a message in the ground:

Dear pack,

I have left regarding the safety of the pack. As many of you know, Saphire is after me for no apparent reason. With you guys protecting me, she would probably be able to get to you guys and I would not want that. And Cora if you are reading this, I love you as a packmate, maybe even more, but regardless I do not want you following me for your life may be on the line. I loved my stay here and I thank all of you for taking great care of me as though I was your own.

Sincerely, Speckles

It was pretty sloppy for the only other time when I have done this was with my sister Rory when we drew a picture of our family. I missed those days; we were so young and innocent. I never found Rory's body so it's unknown to me if she is still alive. I looked at the note reading it over. A drop of a clear liquid slipped out from my eye, dripped onto the note, and was immediately absorbed into the ground. I then walked away silently every once and a while, sneaking glances at the cave until it was out of sight. Never have I ever made such a hard decision.

Cora's pov:

I woke up with my eyes still closed, expecting to feel the warm body of Speckle next to me. However, I felt...emptiness. I immediately grew suspicious and reluctantly got up. I brushed off the soil and dirt from my brown feathers before walking out of the cavern and towards the mouth of the cave. I then saw something odd. It looked like something was etched into the dirt. I slowly walked closer until it was readable. When I was done, I dropped down filled with tears as I let out small cries in sadness. The worst part was that I couldn't even follow him.

"Cora what's wrong?" voices asked as I just pointed towards the message, "he did what was best" is all they said.

"You have no idea how much that raptor meant to me! You know nothing! You all are as small minded as a corpse!" I yelled in anger as they all looked at me with wide eyes. I then ran away through the forest. He could not do this to me. No not now. I don't care if my life is in danger, I will find him. I thought as I ran and my feet crunched on twigs and leaves. They called my name repeatedly. Why couldn't they understand? You would do the same thing if you found a friend who helped you survive for nearly two years and a half, right?

Thirty minutes later, I was exhausted. I slowed down and looked around. Tall trees surrounded me, towering over everything that lived here. A few rocks and grass patches were dispersed around the area with a few trees that have seemed to have fallen over. I walked over to one near a lake. It was shady over here and there was a slight breeze. I decided to reside here for now. I sat behind the log, facing the lake, and I rest head on my fore arms before letting my eye lids droop down and let sleep overcome me.

Hope you guys liked it ^^
